Once at our table we waited 40+ min before I could flag down a server. During which the table of 10+ next to us left, they cleaned the table, sat 10 more people and served them the fish bowl. The server served every other table in the restaurant before talking to us, including checking on two of the tables near us again to make sure they had everything included in the meal. Finally after every single other person in the restaurant was served and checked on, the waitress walked by and stated " did the other waitress serve you?". I said no and began going over our order which included a non lactose meal which the waitress stated " I can read..." and walked away. Only to then be brought not only the wrong plate but not be brought bread or corn. I had to point it out and the waitress stated "oh, I guess you're right." Then clearly overheard that they were out of fish, clearly the reason my wife was given the wrong meal. I again want to be clear that the table next to us had their entire meal start to finish already at this point and this was a prearranged meal that should have been served with everyone else at that fish boil time. It was clear that our server would rather die than speak to me as I raised my hand again and again every time she passed by. Finally she stopped by the table and said that they were cooking our food in the back and that it would be out shortly. I asked for an explanation as the entire meal should have been cooked in the fish boil and not separately. The waitress laughed and said "it's boiled in water out there, it's boiled in water in the back, what's the difference..." my wife then said we need to speak to a manager since that's not the experience. Another person stepped over 5-10 min later and said let me explain that we are cooking it and it will be out shortly, confused we asked if it was cooked in the fish boil and if she was the manager, which she said no. Finally the manager did come over, however after an hour and a half my wife had already left. I felt completely unwelcome, like we were the problem. The manager did comp the meal however stated that "what did we want there was fish...?" again my wife never received her correct meal as they were out of fish. I am honestly so confused as to how or why the waitress wanted to completely avoid serving us, not bring food after we were the last ones left, get another server when asked for her manager to confuse us more, and the manager to clearly just want us to leave as soon as possible... as if we were the problem for eating there. The pillows were down, but the kind that flattened and stay flat. The water in the shower is just gross. It left you feeling slimy. Never clean. My hair was a giant knot, no matter how much conditioner I used. Unfortunate. There is no microwave in the room. However , there is one by the coffee bar in the lobby. They also had a mini fridge with juices and flavored water. They did not offer water or ice anywhere. This was a huge inconvenience. We drink a lot of water and ice would have been nice. We did end up buying a case of water. As cute as the Blacksmith inn is, I would not go back. If you're not getting a good nights sleep it really affects your vacation. Oh Door County, you wondrous vacation spot from my childhood! Not visiting in years, I recently had…read morea chance to go back to Door County with my husband, sister, and parents- AND it was like I remembered it with the added bonuses of now being an adult who can do more shopping (allowance becomes salary) and drinking (cider becomes cider). These are good things. Yes, it is a nice spot for young families, but you can also have a quality time with a group of adults. If you have never been or never heard of Door County (or DCW for us in the know), it is about five hours from Chicago (four if you speed, but you won't want to). Five hours is a completely manageable drive, when the weather is nice; when it isn't, you basically pray on a loop that you won't hit a deer. The anxiety just makes the drive more fun! In pleasant weather, you pass distracting places with huge signs that simply say "C-H-E-E-S-E" and "F-I-R-E-W-O-R-K-S" on them. Driving from Chicago, you basically follow the coast line of Lake Michigan until you can't drive anymore; DCW is the thumb on the hand of Wisconsin. For my Michigan natives, use your other hand to understand Wisconsin's hand geography. Where we have stayed at friend's cabins and some other hotels, we stayed at Blacksmith Inn on the Shore this time. Blacksmith Inn is beautiful and has many room options (including ones in the Harbor House next door). For this stay, we rented out the Orchard House across the street. The four-bedroom fully-functional house felt more like an airbnb rental than connected to the Inn, which was absolutely perfect. So much well-preserved vintage, comfortable beds, and an excess of bathrooms made this a great place for our group. There are many other stay options in Door County; with all of the inns, B+Bs, lodges, and actual airbnb rentals, you basically need to breakdown what are going to be the most important amenities for your stay and book accordingly, but this place was perfect for us.

We arrived on Friday 9/12, and the check-in process went well, the room was nice, and everything seemed ok. We were told that the housekeeping service would come in daily and remake the beds, cleanup the room, remove and replace any used towels and empty the garbage and resupply any coffee and toiletries needed. This was true only the first day. The second day we were out for the day and came back late and noticed that nothing had been touched? We went to bed and figured they would come back the next day. Nope...nothing. We had to empty our trash and reuse the "towels, etc. I had to go to the office get my own coffee supplies, etc. The only response I got was "Sorry"...help yourself to what you need. No....what is your room number? so, we will make sure they service you tomorrow. Nope...didn't happen. The worst part was the extremely loud pipe banging noise that began off and on from 12:00 midnight to around 4 am the last night we were there. It was intermittent and lasted 30 minutes each time it happened. No sleep for us that night. We went to the office to report it and were told.....we have had that happen in the past...and the obligatory "Sorry".....Very dismissive and after I explained the lack of room service and the noise that kept us up the response was an amazing," Sorry but we hope you will come back" followed by a smile? Very disappointing.....customer service? I hope future potential visitors have a better experience than we did... not a good birthday weekend. . They seem to not to care about living up to what they promise they will do. We will definitely not be returning here!!!

When we first arrived Wednesday afternoon, the lady at the front desk was kind of rude, standoffish and didn't really want to answer any of our questions. Walking through the hallway, everything looked very antiquated. When we got into our room I was disappointed to see that our over $350 a night room was pretty dilapidated, old and tiny. However, there was a small mini fridge and microwave available which was nice. There is free wifi available but can be fairly laggy. The resort itself is located right across the street from the water so you get a nice view of the water and you do get a small balcony to sit on with some patio furniture; however, there always seemed to be so many mosquitos there so I never did go outside. There is free breakfast available for guests. There were a few trays available for guests to bring their food up to their room. The selection was pretty simple but filling with some fruit, cereal and frozen jimmy jones breakfast sandwiches. There was a guy working in the breakfast room one morning that was kinda rude but apart from him and the lady at the front desk all of the other staff were quite friendly especially the housecleaning staff. All in all, a fairly average accommodation that wasn't too impressive; however, if you're not planning on staying in your room for too long while exploring Door County it may be adequate.
