Typical breakfast at "The Yellow House".
    Debra B.

I just returned from a long weekend with 8 of my dearest friends. Many of us had not been to Salado and were quite surprised at the quaint town, shopping and restaurants. However, nothing was more perfect than our lodging at the down home "Yellow House B&B". We elected to stay in the actual yellow farmhouse. Each room had its own bath. I stayed in "the pink room" and it was adorable. It had two queen beds, ceiling fan and individual a/c that kept our room a perfect temp. We stayed up late visiting while rocking on the front porch or we would stay up working on an incredibly hard puzzle. Lol. The wonderful thing about staying at a b&b is the delight of waking up to coffee and breakfast. The owners of "the yellow house" presented us with a fabulous breakfast each morning along with juice, assorted coffees and creamers. The first afternoon there was a fresh lemon blueberry pound cake and we quickly learned there would be a sweet item waiting for us upon our return each afternoon. Our hosts and owners, Sarah and James, could not have been more delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed visting with them and look forward to our deturn.

I've stayed twice at Yellow House and both times were a delight. The Green Cottage is beautiful, comfortable, and perfect for a couples' getaway. The first time we stayed in the cottage, the air conditioning unit was malfunctioning. The second time we stayed, I thought the cottage was unavailable so I reserved a different room for us in the main house. In the intervening months, the hosts had replaced the a/c and remembered that it had been an issue on our first visit, so they arranged for us to stay in the Green Cottage again instead. What a thoughtful treat! Upgrades are always a wonderful way to be greeted upon arrival! The food at Yellow House is delicious and our hosts were very kindly accommodating of dietary restrictions (gluten-free blondies dropped off at the doorstep for afternoon snack, yum!). Presentation is also lovely; anniversary weekends are that much better when breakfast comes in a heart-shaped picnic basket. The location is situated between Austin and Waco with easy access from I-35, making it a great home base for exploring the area. The village of Salado is very sweet; try a picnic or walk by the creek in the evening, and explore the ruins of Salado College. Try Alexander's for a romantic dinner, especially the wonderful prix fixe specials on Tuesday evenings.

What an absolutely delightful B & B! We stayed in the "Green Cottage." Cozy and comfortable with a little kitchenette and refrigerator stocked with water and sodas. A freshly baked snack was delivered every afternoon and breakfast was delivered to our door in a sweet heart shaped basket. The food was delicious and our privacy totally respected. Easy 5 minute drive to downtown Salado. Highly recommend for a comfy, cozy stay.

We were in the area for some R & R during bluebonnet season and I found the Yellow House on Trip Advisor.com. The reviews are stellar so I gave them a call. We were fortunate to be able to get one of their cottages for a weekend of fairly short notice due to a cancellation. We took the Green Cottage and it was so lovely, cozy and very private. Perfect for some relaxation! The property is about 5 scenic minutes from Main Street Salado and an easy drive. You enter a gated 'compound' of sorts with the owners home, a 5 suite area on the back of their home, and then 2 cottages and 2 homes, each of which were vintage homes that were disassembled and moved on to their property and lovingly restored to high standards. Each cottage or house is beautifully decorated, ours in black and white Waverly toile fabrics. Each unit is furnished with quality furniture and very high end linens, etc. The property is very well manicured and well cared for by the owners, Cathy and Brian. We drove in to the property on a Friday afternoon and Cathy came out to greet us. She showed us to the cottage and gave us an orientation inclusive of WiFi instructions and how to use the Sat TV. She said she would be back in a few minutes, and sure enough, she had hot from the oven zucchini bread. That was perfect with my afternoon tea from their heavily stocked tray of coffees/teas for the in room Kuerig system. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks and waters as well (and not just one bottle, it was packed full!) Later we met Brian and he, too, was as cordial and hospitable as you can be! We got a full history on the property and how they have grown it with the cottages and houses. The newest house will be ready in a week and it was an old farmhouse, now restored to the very highest of standards, inclusive of a full gourmet kitchen. (our next stay!!) We arrived early enough that we were able to inspect all but the pink house as it was occupied and were both totally impressed again by the quality of furnishings, comfort level and care and attention to detail. We left after two days and our next hotel (a major mid to high end hotel chain) was such a let down after this visit. The first thing my husband said, you aren't going to like the bath towels (after the thick bleached white towels we had in our cottage - we were totally spoiled!) Cathy and Brian really have the hospitality thing down to a science. They are attentive but not intrusive. There is a note upon arrival saying we do not want to bother you nor enter your room/cottage but here is our number for anything you may need during your stay. I don't want to forget a real highlight for me in particular. At 9am each morning, we got a soft knock at the door and a lovely heart shaped wicker basket was placed outside our door. It contained the breakfast of the day, first day, AMAZING amaretto baked French toast with a fresh blackberry warm topping, fresh fruit bowl, hot syrup and super crispy thick bacon. Second day a baked breakfast pie, homemade biscuits, fruit and honey from their own on property happy Yellow House bees!!! If you want a quiet, lovely, peaceful non-intrusive but attentive B & B experience, this is for you! Cathy and Brian, thank you again for allowing us time to melt down! Hope to see you again soon!

What a great B & B! Our peach, almond frittata breakfast yesterday was something no restaurant in town could top. We stayed in the Blue Room and it was just lovely. Beautiful property, lovely hosts, fantastic breakfast and nicely decorated rooms. We'll be back.

We had the pleasure of staying in one of the cottages at the big yellow house. It was adorable, cute and clean. There were so many little details that made our stay extra special. I would recommend this to anyone. The owners are culinary chefs and the food was out of this world!

We loved our stay at Yellow House! Our room and the grounds of the place were lovely, and our breakfast was delicious. If you're a Gilmore Girls fan, the whole place feels like a little Stars Hollow. It's very close to all of the cute shops and scrumptious restaurants in Salado. We'll be back! Highly recommend.

The breakfast was just lovely! Brought to your doorstep in a heart shaped basket :)

I took a two day personal retreat here, and the service staff was so kind and courteous and beyond helpful. They connected me with jogging trail maps, things to do, and a map of the facility. And MC3 Catering also went far beyond expectations to allow me to be added onto their meals that they were serving for larger groups (thank you Willie and Jeremy). Their fried chicken is just glorious. The views here absolutely stunning. Whether you are on the 2 mile red trail and taking in the breathtaking views of the hills and prairies, or whether you head under the bridge to get close to the waterfall, you will have an amazingly restful experience. You can also see deer, elk, donkeys, and cattle up close. The amenities are great. I stayed in the Lone Star cabin which was clean, spacious, fully equipped with a full kitchen, comfy seating spaces, and a large stone bathroom with a tub and walk in shower (for two). There is also rocking chairs inside and outside for your maximum relaxation. Everything you need is labeled well. You can also visit the Coca Cola rec room and the Roadrunner fitness center, which had plenty of solid equipment for the workout enthusiast. I cannot wait to bring my family back here! This is my second visit since the restaurant's most recent ownership change. Had Sunday brunch first visit. One of my friends doesn't eat eggs and asked if she could have a menu item that included eggs, a meat and breakfast potatoes. She asked if the eggs could be left off. She was told NO, so she then just ordered a bread and coffee. I don't understand the waitress response because we weren't asking to deduct the cost of the eggs! She just doesn't eat eggs! Turns out they were out of breakfast potatoes and wanted to bring us french fries instead. We declined. Really.....nothing special about this breakfast and very expensive and disappointing service. The only positive was the restaurant looks nice. Decided to give the restaurant another chance and went for lunch. Had soup and salad. I really only wanted a cup of soup, but that was not possible. Had a very good strawberry and watermelon salad and a giant bowl of corn bisque swimming in oil on top. Very unpalatable. Told the waitress and all I was offered was that they would tell the chef. The salad was $16 and the soup was uneaten and cost me $14! They did bring me the standard Stagecoach hush puppies before my meal and they were delicious! When I had heard the restaurant would be managed by the owners of Monument Cafe I was so excited. I love Monument, but this restaurant is too expensive for the poor quality of food. I would love to have the menu at Monument at this restaurant. The only positive is that the remodel of the restaurant is lovely in appearance. I wouldn't mind the prices if the food was delicious and it was not. I won't return nor will I recommend to my friends. Very disappointing.

The venue needed to be large enough to accommodate distancing, catering and food service was sketchy since many places closed, local restrictions were fluid and I didn't live in the city where the event would be held. At one point, I thought we wouldn't be able to celebrate more than having a small dinner. It was discouraging. Then I found Milestone Memories and Events. I had a good feeling about Geri after our first phone call. The second call confirmed my initial impression. I needed someone with experience and good judgment that I could trust for advice. After all, large events take hundreds of decisions and bad choices can create bad experiences for all the guests. To give context, the guest list was 250 people. Given the circumstances, I estimated 100-150 would attend. The final RSVP count came in at 140. This was not a small event and we pulled it off in four months! Here are just a few highlights of my great experience with Milestone Memories: - We developed a budget, and came in under - They got to know us and designed decor and settings to match (my mom loved everything!) - Everything LOOKED AMAZING, tables, center pieces, lighting, photo backdrop, entry tables - All the logistics like how people enter, move, exit, accounting for seating, everything was great - They found the venue, catering, music and negotiated many details so I only made major decisions. I can't tell you how important that is because it can be overwhelming dealing with multiple contracts when the event is personal. - They took care of my parents and were so thoughtful of all their needs on the day of the event - Excellent communication throughout Geri and her staff are genuine, caring people and I'm so thankful we met. Don't misunderstand, she's a skilled project manager and straight forward communicator that will take care of business! What I mean is she thought of details that I could never have thought of. For example, she created a space for my parents to rest before the event and stocked it with a beautiful snack tray. She arranged a "Grand Entrance" which turned out amazing. My parents had a "first dance", and I mean they had never danced in public before, even at their wedding. This was Geri's idea and it made such an impact! This is the longest review I've written and it is still too short. What a great 4 month journey this was with Geri to create such a memorable celebration for my parents! People are still talking about it a week later. I still get emails and texts complimenting how great it was, and we have the best pictures to help us remember. Here's are a few things people are saying: "elegant", "fun", "relaxed", "beautiful", "amazing!"... My mom and dad loved everything! After working with Geri and her team for 4 months, I 100% recommend them to anyone needing a spectacular event!
