My wife and I had a truly wonderful time! We had a late check in, but the owner Chris, gave us perfect entry instructions and even warned us of the auto lights by our room. Lovely private bedrooms with updated bathrooms. Stayed in the Griffin Room, and we loved it! Perfect homebase for the wedding weekend. Located wonderfully on the main drag, we were able to get dinner, coffee and lunch all within walking distance! The breakfast part of our stay was really so lovely. Chris was a delight to talk to, had lots of recommendations locally, was very funny, and the food was delicious. It was such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and Chris really was a character. Being local, he had so many stories of the area, of the house itself, the process of updating it, and incredibly funny stories of some of the events they've had. The wedding couple followed up with us asking if we would recommend the 1812 House in the future, and we mentioned that it is on our list to stay if we return to the Tug Hill!

Initially, we had a little trouble getting a hold of them to make the reservation, but once we had that taken care of it was pretty much everything we could ask for. We arrived later on in the evening the first night, so we couldn't actually see much around the B&B and went to dinner. We came back, opened a bottle of wine, sat on the back porch, and stared at what was probably the most stars either of us had ever seen. Then we went to bed. When we woke up, we were not expecting what we saw - shrouded in a morning mist (sounds cheesey - but this is the real deal), the back of the place overlooked the Moose River, a calm portion that almost made up a small lake. It was really amazing, and as it cleared up we were just thrilled to have chosen the place. Access to free canoes and kayaks - which we took full advantage of. The landscaping and area leading down to the river was very nice, a great place to relax after a day of being a tourist or after some light kayaking. The river was very nice, meandering with houses here and there along the shore, perfect for a lazy canoe or kayak trip. Also lots of turtles, water birds, etc., I'd imagine the fishing would be pretty good too. They also have a sweet, sort of vintage tandem bike - good times. We went to have breakfast - a really nice continental - and the owners were really lovely. Super friendly and helpful re: getting around and finding things to do, Stuart and Jimmy were really great. They weren't obtrusive, but made sure we were well taken care of. The room was very nice, everything was sort of an Asian/Northwoods/Antique-y mixture that wasn't too gaudy but you still knew you were in a B&B. If you're planning on hitting upstate New York and you want to stay some place affordable (it was $79/night for 3 nights during the week - you can stay at a crappy hotel for that much or more), this is not to be missed. Friendly, beautiful, and really close to perfect to be totally honest - we were fully satisfied and talk about going back whenever it comes up.

Our room was filled with so much charm, it just drew you in, especially a four poster grandma's feather bed with a hand knit topper. The home was filled with thousands of nick-hacks, from their travels and antiquing. One of the most memorable pieces was a ten foot tall mirror they retrieved from on top of a mantle in a mansion. Really, how tall was that ceiling, I wondered. I took in each and every item, none of which had an iota of dust on it. After our first stay there, we had to stay again. One day, no one else was home and my curiosity got the best of me and I had to peek into the other rooms. One room was undone, another had similar decor as ours and the other had an Asian theme. Our four claw bathtub was just delightful to luxuriate in. My fantasy life came alive. The toilet had a pull-chain on top and the light above the sink was sufficient for the room. Ellen, the owner, cooked breakfast and served scones, grilled grapefruit and eggs. It was absolutely delicious. I just wanted to believe an old aunt owned this home and was putting it in her will for me. It was so cozy and lovable. My honey and I wanted to stay forever, alas it was time for reality and we were gone. I would gladly stay again.

Bonnie the owner asked me to call before arriving. So at 2pm I called and left a voice message of our arrival at 5:00. When entering at 5, she stated no call was received, and the room was not ready so we left for dinner. When we came back, we were told there was no room key. After speaking with another quest they also had no way to lock their room. Then Bonnie stated the wash cloths could not be used to remove make up use only wipes only. (OK) Next day we stated the room did not have to be re-tided. When coming back the door was wide open.( Forgot to mention the shades are old and slightly torn. I had trouble keeping them up, so I tied the blind string together for privacy.) She txt me at dinner stating she entered the room, and I ripped the blinds from the frames and would be charged on my credit card!!!!!! That issue was resolved when the strings were untied. No apology was given. What a night mare. We left as soon as we could the next day before breakfast was served and went to a restaurant to eat instead of staying for breakfast. Would never again return to this place. Very strange. This is my first negative review every given for a B & B.

It made a weekend of sadness into a truly lovely, comfortable time. We stayed in the Chinese Lantern Room, which is small, but who cares when you have a Jacuzzi for Twozzi!!? Breakfast was fantastic-fresh fruit salad, great coffee, honey yogurt and a delicious egg and ham soufflee. Tammy came by after we finished eating and offered us chocolate cake, which seriously, sounds over the top, but who doesn't love cake for breakfast? We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and weren't sure what to expect. This place exceeded our expectations. The mansion itself is beautiful. Every time we walked around the house we discovered more treasures, everything from the molding to antique pieces. The property has a lovely view of the Erie Canal. Each morning there was coffee waiting or us outside our door on a beautifully arranged tray. Then we went down to breakfast. I hate to repeat myself but the table was also beautifully arranged. We tried several different dishes during our stay, each one delicious. Our host, John and Rebecca, were there for our every need, without being intrusive. After running around all day It was so relaxing to return to our room each night. We asked several relatives to stop by and see the place. Our Aunt was thrilled as she had driven by hundreds of times and never been inside. She was not disappointed. One extra point. They have a friendly dog named Riley who helped us forget how much we missed our own pets. We plan to return here each time we return to Syracuse.

We were fortunate enough to come at a time where there were no other guests there, so we had the whole place to ourselves! Check in was very easy, and Vicky is absolutely amazing! She was so helpful during our stay and made some absolutely delicious breakfasts. The first morning we had peach French toast with breakfast sausage. The second morning we had a bacon and cheese omelette with avocado toast. I for the life of me cannot remember the name of the room we stayed in, but it was so nice. There was a massive bed with a canopy over it, that was oh so comfortable. There was a fire place that could be turned on and off, that was nice to have in cold October. The bathroom was also so spacious, with a stand up shower and a jacuzzi tub. The house has this quaint elegance to it, and they have so much for you to do there. They have a bunch of different puzzles and board games you can play. They have a lot of older books you can read in their little library. They also had a TV that you could watch. The house is also sat right next to the Thousand Island Club golf course. They had two bikes my wife and I were able to ride around the area on. We absolutely loved our time here at the Hart House. And we have already been trying to plan a trip to come back!

Want to know about great places to eat or interesting places to go? Just ask Alice; she'll tell you what you need to know. Sackets Harbor is a beautiful village with a variety of very good restaurants and interesting shopping. And, all of that is just a short walk from the inn. The Thousand Islands and Canada are an easy drive. There is a lot to do in the area, or just have fun doing nothing! We've been to The Candlelight B & B twice and are looking forward to a third visit sometime soon!

Lake Ontario is a very short walk away for great sunset pictures. Rooms are very nice, comfortable and quiet. Alice is a great host and can point you in the direction of anything Sacketts has to offer. Last time I stayed there, it was just an "Inn" as Alice was not serving breakfasts, but there are several places to eat breakfast in Sacketts and some are a short walk down the street. Whenever I travel to upstate NY, I stay here.
