I started five-element acupuncture treatments with Alex after my medical doctors had run all kinds of tests and (it felt like) had kind of shrugged and left it to me to ride it out. I'm a writer by trade and I can't find the words to adequately express how pivotal Alex was to my healing process. I'd received traditional acupuncture before, and while I definitely noticed that it alleviated my symptoms, the five-element technique was something much deeper. Alex asked me questions about all areas of my life and really listened to my answers--and paid attention to how I answered. I started off coming once a week in January 2023 and she has tapered our sessions as I felt better. I'm now back to 100% physically and about 80% cognitively. (When I started with her in January, I hadn't been able to work since July 2022; I began working again in March 2023.) My time with Alex wasn't the only thing that I had been doing to try to feel better, but she provided the anchor point--supporting and strengthening my core...system (not sure if this is the word I want, but it's what I've come up with for now). This was my first massage since Covid outbreak 12 months ago and what an awesome experience I had with Alex! I used to get bodywork monthly for both sports related needs and overall well-being. Not having access to massage has been a real challenge this past year. My immediate needs were around hip/back tightness stemming from a knee injury and Alex and I talked quite a bit about it before she started to work which made me feel good. I have been seeing Alex for a combination of acupuncture, massage and cupping. She is truly a master of asking questions to understand the precise issue her patient is dealing with before starting a treatment. I'll start by stating I had NO BIAS towards acupuncture. Matter of fact, it took me being horizontal and laid out for 5 FULL DAYS to go get something done about my lower back pain. During those 5 days, I was at the mercy of friends helping me with everyday things. I was immobile for the best of a week and not even able to sleep because I could not even rollover to get comfortable. Sitting? FORGET ABOUT IT. It came to the point where I was stuck in my bed or on the floor for too long. I went to see Alex for an acupuncture and cupping session to, hopefully, just get me vertical enough to take SOME steps. After my first (ever) acupuncture session (and cupping) with Alex - not only was I vertical; I was WALKING with no signs of hobbling. I was back on my bike and racing within DAYS. What I appreciated, most, about my session with Alex is her patience and empathy. I had never had acupuncture before and did not know what to expect. She walked me through every sensation I should be feeling and what I shouldn't be feeling. I felt SO comfortable with her clear communication and empathetic ears. I was almost in tears leaving my first session due to the sheer joy I felt realizing I was mobile again. I don't say this lightly, I don't know what I would do had I not gone to see Alex. I give FULL credit of my mobility because of my session with Alex. I've now made it a priority to come regularly as part of my self care regimen now knowing how effective her work is. Alex is amazing at what she does! When I had my baby I developed wrist pain from carrying and breastfeeding. It was pretty painful where I could barely hold a dish up. I tried a wrist brace, massaging with ointments and wrist exercises to help with the pain but they weren't very effective. I decided to try acupuncture with Alex. From the first session I already noticed a difference in the range of motion and a lot of the tightness had reduced. I was consistent in seeing her once a week for at least 3 weeks, and then it was every 2 weeks for another 3 weeks. Some of our sessions we would combine acupuncture + massage. I was referred to Alex by a friend who'd really liked her treatments. The office was comfortable and peaceful. Alex listened patiently to my preferences (I was getting a standard Swedish massage). She made sure I was comfortable as we started the session. Her massage technique was excellent. It felt confident, and practiced, but not rote or bored. She was intuitive and I think she used feedback from me, without asking. She massaged all the parts I wanted, including my feet (which some therapists skip). At the end of the massage, I was very relaxed and felt great! I wished she could have gone on for a lot longer! As a person who has received quite a few professional massages, I rate Alex excellent. I have officially been converted to being a believer in acupuncture. I was skeptical before, afraid of the needle stabbings though I have several tattoos, and worried the cost wouldn't yield a tangible outcome. I can honestly tell you my experience with Alex was absolutely amazing & worth every single cent. I got not only immediate relief from the pain I was in, but lasting relief & with great advice on how to keep working the area afterwards and moving forward. Background: I threw my back out- for the first time ever- two weeks ago and cannot tell you the pain I had shooting all the way down to my left leg. No position- sitting, standing, laying down- brought any relief and moving certain ways brought a lot of vocals out of me. I went to the ER and got shot up with something & sent home with the good stuff. I saw Alex about a week afterwards, when I'd run out of the good stuff and was at about a 5-6 pain wise constantly. Walking was extremely difficult and I was desperate to try anything to help. I was referred to her by a friend and was set up with an initial massage, then acupuncture, and finished with some cupping (another first for me). All of it- totally amazing. There's initial intake forms sent to you, then she'll sit with you and chat even more, then you dive into treatment. The acupuncture specifically was life-changing because I could actually feel the release in my muscles and the good deep ache it brought. And honestly, putting in the needles does not hurt. And those that pinch, it's over as fast as you felt it. It all just feels amazing, like tiny deep releases in your muscles while the blood gets in there and starts to heal you. Since seeing Alex, everything has vastly improved. My walking is better, my pain feels down to a 2, and I'm able to go to work and feel productive. I see Alex for acupuncture as well as massage. I had never had a real acupuncture experience before I met her, and I was very skeptical at first but I am now a huge believer. I have had some ongoing knee pain after a dance injury, and after my first acupuncture session, I was climbing stairs pain-free for almost a week. I am a little squeamish about needles but Alex is very patient and accommodating. She also gave me some herbs that have been helping with some hormonal imbalances that I have had all my life. As a massage therapist, Alex is excellent! I teach fitness and I am pretty hard on my body, but she has seen me through some gnarly injuries and muscle spasms.
