My wife and I stopped by Innisfree today for their legendary meat and three, and as always--it did not disappoint. It's been a few years since my last visit, but back when I worked closer to downtown, this place was a weekly (sometimes twice-a-week) lunch ritual. Man, this spot is awesome for lunch! Now, if you try to come on a weekend--good luck. The place is packed to the gills, and the folks lined up outside aren't there for the turnip greens, if you catch my draft, I mean drift. They're here for the other "festivities"... the bar. But let's talk food. Whether you're circling your favorite meat and three combo or grabbing something off their regular menu, you can't go wrong. Their meat and three is like stepping straight into Granny's kitchen on a cool October Sunday afternoon. I went with the country fried steak, Caesar salad, fried okra, turnip greens, and--because I'm not a quitter--a helping of blackberry cobbler. Every bite was fantastic. My wife went with the fried catfish, paired with black-eyed peas, fried okra, and of course, the same irresistible blackberry cobbler to top it off. Her meal was every bit as delicious as mine (not that I didn't try to sneak a bite or two for quality assurance purposes). The background music today was a dose of pop, with Ingrid Michaelson's The Way I Am setting a nice, mellow vibe--pretty fitting for a lunch date with my wife. Soft and pleasant... though, if I'm being honest, I'd trade Ingrid for a little Metallica or any one of those glorious 80s hair bands in a heartbeat. Nothing says "meat and three" like a little Pour Some Sugar on Me, right? These days, a meal I used to enjoy weekly has become a rare treat, but today's visit reminded me why I loved it so much. The outdoor seating is perfect for a crisp fall or breezy spring day, TVs are plastered all around so you won't miss your favorite team (Roll Tide, of course), and there's even a pool table if you're feeling like hustling a game or two. The lunch staff is fast and friendly, and if you haven't experienced this Tuscaloosa gem, do yourself a favor and step inside for their lunch menu. Great little spot to eat before a concert or anything really, food was piping hot and good! We came here before a concert as it was close to our parking spot lol. Glad we did, I ordered the fish and chips, they were hot and good. The chips were waffle fries and really good too. They had one huge plus going for them, angry orchard on tap!!!!!! Fun bar for the sole reason of all the people your age are here but oh my god this place is truly repulsive. Front room smells like throw up and the second room reeks of pee. When we got here 3 hours ago, there were TWO piles of throw up on THE FLOOR of the bar which has yet to be cleaned up. On top of that the men's room had a toilet overflow from throw up and the door doesn't close all the way to the whole area nearby smells rancid. This place is a joke. Got multiple $5 doubles. Go up for a 3rd time. And I get charged $9 because they are "no longer doing the special"? I give the bartender a $20 bill. And she "does not have enough cash in her drawer to give change"..... There are at least 4 cash drawers behind the bar and they cannot give change to customers who are paying cash? Their social media says $5 doubles Sunday-Wednesday. Why are you allowing cash transactions if you do not have cash to give change to customers? Great bar food! Staple of bama. The staff and atmosphere is young but its a college town. Drinks are cheap but what they charge the kids for entry is ridiculous. Drinks are reasonable, large space inside and out and they have a pool table. The bathrooms are gross so use the toilet elsewhere if u can. read more

My friends and I had dinner last night here before attending a play. I had been raving about Innisfree's fish and chips so three of the four of us ordered that. My friends agreed the fish and chips were great! I have been eating at Innisfree for about 15-16 years now because they have the best fish and chips I've ever eaten! The quality and consistency of fish and chips at Innisfree has never wavered in all the years I've eaten here which I find astounding! The fish is perfectly fried - the batter is golden brown while the fish is moist and tender. The service last night was great, our waitress was attentive and very nice. I love the ambiance here it has a "local watering hole" vibe. Innisfree is frequented by college students while my friends and I are long past that age, but we did not feel at all uncomfortable. The one con I have is with the service, as I said our service was great last night, however, I usually have a late lunch here and service during the afternoon is typically slow and inattentive. The service is paltry. I ordered food. My entire table was served and drinks were served. Food was brought out for my entire table, but mine is missing for over an hour even though I was the first to order. I would ascertain that the server forgot my order. I go order food at the bar with my friend after a friend asked if I ordered food. I thought I did but apparently not as there's not a notification or apology of food taking a minute. I order food and pay for it, and I see food appears at my table. I informed the waiter that I already paid for the food. They still bring out another order after I told her to cancel it. Somehow an order that took an hour and 15 minutes can also take 5 minutes to prepare. I was charged twice and received no apology. I would not recommend ordering food or expect basic treatment as a customer. read more

I visited the irish pub yesterday as part of a landmark event, the Banana Bar Crawl. The team captain of my group for the Banana Bar Crawl (BBC for brevity) instructed my group to leave another bar and conga line to the front gates of the Irish pub. When I arrived, the bouncers were completely unprofessional. They were demeaning about the fact that I paid $26 to wear "the most fake Chinese banana costume" they had ever seen in their lives. The scam artist in the beanie then proceeded to charge me cover, even though the instagram post I saw on barstool promised free cover, and they would never lie on the internet. When I reluctantly paid, the wait staff, bartenders, and even other customers kept making snide comments and laughing in my face. Embarrassed, I threw my banana costume (what little hadn't withered away yet) into a nearby trash can, and spent the rest of the evening there ordering grimace bombs and only drinking half of each one. Left no tip for the blonde bartender. When I left, I saw one of the door guys donning the banana costume I had once worn! He sarcastically asked if I was happy with my purchase of my banana costume. I wittily responded by informing him that it also came with a lanyard and a checklist! If BBC ever comes back to Tuscaloosa, I hope they leave the Irish pub off the laminated schedule. read more

Unfortunately, we attempted to visit during a couple football weekends and encountered $40-60 cover charge per person. Totally taking advantage of people - especially on parent's weekend. Innisfree is great for if you want to grab a bite to eat as well as if you want to spend a night or game day around good company, drinking & etc. You seat yourself when you walk in, so good luck with that. The waitresses are all friendly, and I've never had a bad experience with any of them. I always order the chicken tenders drenched in Irish-Gold sauce and a side of French fries (whew chile it's pricey but worth it). It never takes too long for the food to come out, and for some reason if it does, it's probably cause they are crowded. The chicken tenders with the signature Irish gold sauce is so good! It's like honey mustard but with buffalo sauce or something but it's really amazing! Highly recommend trying them. As far as the bar part goes, the music is sometimes diverse, very appealing to all types of crowds and the bartenders are great! read more

Where to begin? Good ol' Alabama - traveled down here to catch the game against Michigan and came to this spot NYE and had no problems. Decided I'd go back because my experience was fine the night before - midway through the game however, I'm tapped on my shoulder while sitting at the bar and told I had to leave. When I asked "why?" Seeing as how I was just sitting there watching the game I was told I wasn't owed an explanation and escorted out. I repeatedly asked why and still received no answer as to my early exodus and was told not to come back(won't have to worry about that). Just know that if you're an African American and want to experience what this state was like under governor George C. Wallace - please go to this bar and sit there. Normally I enjoy getting the meat and three at lunch but today was a little aggravating. I had food delivered and the order was completely wrong. I ordered the country fried steak and it came with fried catfish. I'm allergic to seafood so to start that was a dangerous mishap and I couldn't eat any of the side's because they were all touching. I reordered the meal and it did come correctly but the country fried steak was burnt. I don't know if the cook is the issue or the entire staff. Very disappointed in the service and food quality today. If they were too busy to be careful in preparation they need to look at management. read more
