DO NOT USE Innovative Painting!! Despite talking the talk up front, Richard does not follow through! I was renovating a new home and needed painting, drywall, and bathrooms remodeled. I interviewed a handful of contractors, including Richard. He showed up on time to quote me both times I asked him to, was knowledgeable about the work that needed to be done and likeable. I chose Richard for our job. At the agreed upon start date, Richard's guys showed up on time and were nice. They started by painting and doing some drywall work. They also started to demo the bathrooms that were being remodeled. After a week of work, the workers came to me and said they were sorry, but they were going to leave because Richard had not paid them in weeks. I had given Richard thousands of dollars at the commencement of work, so this should not have been an issue. After a few days of Richard promising that another crew would arrive but nobody showing up, I told Richard I could not afford to wait because we were moving in soon. He promised to refund me the money that I had paid up front. After many calls and texts back and forth, it took several weeks for Richard to send over his own elderly mother and father to remove all of the demolished bathroom materials with a trailer. After weeks turned into months, Richard only paid back a fraction of the money we gave him to do our job. I was very shocked that he paid any of it! He constantly has made BS excuses on why he can't get the money back to us for work he was not able to do, although he has admitted that he owes the money back. I have not heard from him since the end of 2020 and he still owes us thousands. The failure to do the work created many tough situations for me, my wife, and my small child. At one point we had to live in an Air BNB for a few weeks. Please do yourself a favor and find another contractor, and do not ever pay any amount for work until it's completed. I wish the best to Richard and his young family, but I believe in doing the right thing and he clearly does not. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Our project was a disaster from start to end. We were VERY clear about what we expected them to do from the very beginning. Richard agreed and acknowledged that he knew what we expected and was willing to do the job as we expected. We wanted them to take several layers of paint off our kitchen cabinets and repaint them. We also asked him to patch a hole in our kitchen wall while they were working there. He said no problem to all of this. So, the preppers came on the first day and started sanding the cabinets. On a flat surface I understand this is the way old paint is taken off. However, for the curves and corners of the cabinets sanding will change the shape of them. So my partner was watching them to confirm they did not do this. He also engaged them in conversation to confirm they knew exactly what we wanted. Apparently, discussing the job with the people we are paying to do a job is disruptive. Richard called us and proceeded to call him a racist, and that we should both just leave the workers alone to do their job. First it would be very difficult to prove the racism comment since I am Hispanic. Color of a person's skin is irrelevant. My partner's concern was that they did the professional job we asked of them. Richard's attempt to bully us to leave his workers alone only led to them doing a very sloppy job of painting our kitchen. The cabinets have streaks where you can see the color underneath. They also neglected to paint the tops and bottoms of the cabinets which was abundantly obvious when the cabinets were put back in. This leads us to the "experienced" carpenter. When we spoke with Richard about the job, he stated he had a very experienced carpenter that can re-install the cabinets after the painting was completed. This so-called experienced carpenter looked like he was 20 years old. So, for him to have been considered an "Experienced" carpenter he would have had to start working at 10. I doubt that is likely given the horrible job he did on our cabinets. He put all of them in unevenly. Anyone could've have seen this looking at the work. So, we can only assume he did not care that they were uneven. He also mixed up the screws. There are face screws (ones that are pretty and are on the outside of the cabinet for the public to see) and there are back screws (ones that don't have to be pretty because no one sees them). He mixed them all up and we have most of the ugly screws on the outside of the cabinet doors. He also put some of them in crooked as if he didn't want to bother standing on the ladder or even getting on the counter to screw the top ones in straight. Then he told us he was not putting in the knobs and handles. What? I called Richard and he admitted that this was on him that the guy at the house does not have the equipment to re-drill the holes that his painters covered up with putty so he would come back to do that part. I also told him about the missing paint and uneven cabinets. He said they could do those things also when they come back in. I naively believed him when he told me this, so I paid him part of the remaining amount due to him for the job. When I texted him the next day to find out when he was coming back in to finish the job he did not respond. He still has not responded. So this company basically left us with streaks of paint on our uneven placed cabinets without knobs or handles on the doors and drawers some of which had no paint on the tops of the cabinets at all with ugly angled screws on the face of the doors. read more
