He told me, in very stuttered halting half-sentences that semaglutide was contraindicated for diabetes. When I asked what he meant, given that the medication was specifically approved by the FDA for diabetes treatment, he stuttered, seemed very unsure, and told me that he felt uncomfortable giving me the medication because there was no way of knowing how it would affect my A1C. After an hour with this retired doctor, it was clear that I wouldn't be trusting him or this clinic with my health. He stated that if I brought him a note from my primary care doctor with the semaglutide dosage on it that he would then consider giving me the medication. He also scolded me for coming to the clinic and not getting the medication from my doctor. When I explained that my insurance wouldn't cover it, his actual words were, "but you're diabetic and it's a diabetes drug." I left shaking my head and irritated that I took an hour of leave from my job for this.
