    Chocolate Chunk Cookie
    Dan B.

First time I've ever been in an Insomnia Cookies establishment. Their cookies were amazing - fresh, warm, and delicious!! I had the chocolate chunk (250 calories), and the white chocolate macadamia (270 calories). It's nice that they post the number of calories for each cookie, but note to Management, people buying your cookies probably could care less about the number of calories in your cookies, Ha! The reason for a 3-star rating was the customer service fell short. There was no greeting, no smiles, and when I started to pay with cash, he stated that they were not accepting cash due to COVID-19....hmmm ok. Then when I left, there was no "have a nice day". Final verdict, go for the cookies - they're worth it.

WARM, GOOEY AND WORTH EVERY SINGLE CALORIE. As someone with a major sweet tooth, going to insomnia cookies alway gets me excited. Can't get a cookie better than this: the perfect texture and filled with chocolate chunks. Definitely has to top it with a scoop of moose track ice cream.

What 24 cookies, 3 milks, and a pint look like.

I've ordered from Insomnia Cookies a few times now, with varying results. It seems to be hit and miss. I've never been in the actual shop, but I have gotten deliveries to my dorm room. One of the things that I do really like about Insomnia Cookies is that it is one of the few places in town that delivers ice cream, and I think it's the only place that delivers whole pints. I've tried both the mint chocolate chip flavor and the strawberry cheesecake flavor, and both were good. I preferred the cheesecake. I was pleasantly surprised that the ice cream was still completely frozen and not at all melted when it got to my door. The first time I ordered, I got the TBMOC, which is 24 cookies for 28$ dollars. I got a combination of chocolate chunk, double chocolate chunk, peanut butter chip, M&M, and double chocolate mint. I also got three milks, and a pint of ice cream. The milks are $3 each, and the ice cream is $7 for a pint. They were warm and chewy and absolutely amazing, the perfect thing I needed to sate my sweet tooth. The delivery girl was super nice and friendly, and it was a good experience. However, the second time, not so much. I got the same general order, with the flavors switched around, plus a premium Smores cookie for $2.95. The boy who delivered my order was annoyed by the fact that he had to call me to get my order. I live in a dorm with security, I'm sorry it was an inconvenience to you that I wasn't going to wait outside for half an hour? It was rude. The cookies were also underbaked. They weren't just soft, but fell apart like they hadn't been baked enough. The smores cookie had a weird, salty taste that wasn't worth it. I do think they're overpriced. I understand that I'm paying to have it delivered, but seriously? $7 dollars for a pint of ice cream and $3 for a single serving of milk? I'd order a lot more if the prices weren't so steep. I'd order from them again in the future, but I'll definitely be paying more attention to service and quality to decide if I should keep them in my regular take-out rotation or to call it a aday.

The roast beef savory crepe is also tasty -- though a little light on meat. In terms of the milk tea, it is passable. The tapioca pearls are cooked properly, but the tea itself is nothing special. That said, for the price, it's hard to go wrong. The interior could use some work. It's a bit run down, and the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom don't work great. Meanwhile, the service is solid. They were very patient and friendly with my kids.

Prices aren't that bad either even with it being one of the nicer restaurants around here. The crepes can be meaty or vegetarian among the many options. Basically this place is all staffed by SIU students with it being close to the campus. It's a scenario that seems like a recipe for disaster. That's not the case entirely. Can be a bit of a wait of course. The menu isn't that big, so it helps keep things running smoother. It's about $5 for a crepe. They have savory and sweet. Among the savory ones, we tried the mushroom. These were good and light enough that we didn't get filled up. For dessert you can get sweet ones. These include fruit fillings and whipped cream on top. Good place for tea and crepes. It's located on University Avenue at Mill Street. They frequently close for school events and vacations.

I was interested in trying their baked treats, and upon my visit, I found exactly what I wanted to get. The menu variety was good. They offer cookies, pastries, breakfast meals, lunch meals like sandwiches, etc. The pricing was reasonable. I got a Pink Cookie (Southern IL specialty), a Chocolate Chunk Walnut cookie, a Date Walnut cookie, something called an Orange Chipper (a type of cookie), as well as an Italian sandwich (called Bakery Sub on the menu). The Date Walnut cookie was my top favorite. It was soft and also crunchy where the walnuts were. The Orange Chipper was my next favorite, followed by the Pink Cookie (iced frosting shortbread cookie). The sandwich was loaded and had a good flavor. The deli meats (ham, and salami) were fresh. The service was good. This was a gem of a find for me and I would go back there again when visiting Carbondale. Definitely recommended.

If you have never had one, you are missing a mouth full of YUM! Last night, I went through the drive-thru and ordered my meal with special instructions. When I got home, I realized the order wasn't correct. I ate the fries and ice cream and counted it as a loss. Well, as I was returning from a trip this afternoon, I went by Culver's again. I was still needing that butter-burger itch scratched. Unfortunately, my order was made incorrect again. This time, I saved the burger, and after a brief nap, I drove back to Carbondale, determined to get my burger. As soon as I walked into the door, I was greeted by Manager De'Ante. I explained what had happened and asked for a replacement meal. I didn't want to go another day without that delicious burger. De'Ante repeated my order to ensure it would be done correctly, then told his team to begin the preparation of my meal. I am happy to report that the Culver's team got it right this time! We all have bad days, so I try to grant grace when something goes awry, and I love it when a restaurant is responsive and willing to correct its mistakes. Not only did I get my food hot and fresh, but unlike when I went through the drive-thru, I could see how beautiful the restaurant was inside. I was impressed with the accessibility and cleanliness as well. As you can see from the attached photos, the restaurant and lot are clean, well-lit, and extremely inviting. I recommend you go to Culver's for a delicious meal. When you stop in, tell them Kindra Speech sent you!
