Carol Wallace has been my hairdresser for the past year or so. She is the consummate professional and to make matters even better, she's also awfully friendly and a good conversationalist. The shampoo and conditioning products used at InSPArations are first rate and smell wonderful. My hair is so amazingly soft and silky after every visit. Carol gives my wavy grey/white hairs a very short cut over my ears with short bangs, textured, layered and dare I say it, fashion forward and edgy especially for an old lady like me. I walk out looking way better (and younger) than I did walking in. I have a standing appointment about every 6-8 weeks and if I'm lucky, she'll be around for many more years. And I conclude by sharing that her fees are very reasonable. About InSPArations in general, I like that it's not a snooty place like some salons I've been to in Santa Maria. I took my daughter for a hair cut going from long hair to a cute stylish bob. The cost was reasonable $25.00 for a child cut. The stylist took time almost 1 hour to ensure the haircut was perfect. The receptionist was friendly and the environment was welcoming. The location is in the heart of downtown old Orcutt with a decent amount of street parking. Overall the experience was great and much better than going to a low budget walk in hair place. The Spa was busy for a Saturday and those coming out of their appointments for a variety of different services seemed happy with their service. read more

I was impressed with both pedicures I have had recently from Nancy at Insparations. I have been to at least three other places in SM and was not happy. After I was pregnant, I finally took myself to the spa to get a microdermabrasion after waiting so long to do so. I was new to the area so this is the best spa I could find, ratings wise. I got a baby sitter and was so excited to have an afternoon of pampering myself. The girl that did it wasn't very friendly, only spent maybe 3 minutes doing the microdermabrasion and the rest of the time just rubbing cleanser and masks on my face. I was out of there in 30 minutes. I've had better microdermabrasion at a tanning salon. Can't find a decent salon in this area. Looks like I will be traveling out of town for my salon and spa needs read more

I am sad to say that my results was not the best and it makes me sad to write this review because I've been here before for a haircut and I was happy. I showed the hairdresser a picture of how I had my hair cut 2 years ago and the results are nothing the same. It did look short after she curled it and once I got home and showered at night I realized that it was way too short and nothing like the picture I had showed her. I feel like a boy and now I'm thinking of getting extensions and I am newly mom and wanted a different look and now I feel like I am going to have it pulled back until it grows in. Good thing I'm on maternity leave and don't have to show my face at work. I will not be coming here anymore. read more

Lovely place! I received my very first European facial from Renee back in November and I loved every second! She really focused on my skin since it's very dry and really focused on providing it with moisture. A head scalp massage was included and I was in literal heaven. The music is relaxing, and very peaceful. I wanted to take a nap. Renee was so nice too! I've been needing to go back, I highly recommend this location. Front receptionist was friendly as well, and they provided delicious, refreshing cucumber water as I waited. read more

*Update: I just noticed the response to my post , and this accusation is absurd. Yes, I am a therapist, and no, that has nothing to do with my experience. If I wanted to just bash this place in an attempt to make them have bad reviews on yelp I wouldn't have wanted to speak with the owner. And I definitely wouldn't want her to know who I was. But I was 100% honest with her about the fact that I had been a massage therapist for over 15 years. And I also told her the name of my business. After I told her, in detail, about how sore my neck was (and all the other issues with the treatment) she just kept defending the massage therapist. She acted shocked that I had a bad experience and treated me as If I didn't know what I was talking about. She even used the excuse "her English isn't very well, so everything you said to her could've been lost in translation." And I'm glad you touched on the fact that I extended from a half an hour to an hour, I forgot to explain why I had to do this in the first place. I should not have had to extend my massage. This therapist used one of the oldest tricks in the book to make more money. The client doesn't know if they want to get a full hour so they tell the therapist to just start off with a half an hour and they will see, but knowing this, the therapist only gives a tiny bit of attention to the area that they want worked on. I specifically asked her to work on my neck and back ONLY, I told her several times I didn't want anything else worked on. Therefore by the time the massage was over at 30 minutes, what choice did I have? I extended and hoped for the best! When she kept trailing off in different area's besides my neck and back I had to keep asking her to go back to my neck and back, and her response every time was "to get benefit, you have to get other things worked on, it's all connected." The last 30 minutes she worked on my neck for about 15 minutes and it was nothing but painful and frustrating. I told her time after time to go lighter and it was hurting me. I also told her not to ever press on the carotid arteries because it can cause a person to pass out if pressed on too hard. She was surprised and didn't even know that. I didn't say how bad it really was right after to the front desk lady because I did not want to even deal with the confrontation with the therapist, and I needed to ice my neck at home which is what I went and did immediately. I was in so much more pain the day after, and after talking to my mother, who was the one who encouraged me to go back and talk to the owner, I did not want to at all, but I decided that I just had to speak up. Also please tell me, In what way could I be benefitting from leaving this review? When we talked, I told you where my clients were located, and you know that they are an HOUR plus*** away from your store, and you said that you heard of the business when I had a location 8 years ago in the Santa Ynez Valley. I also told you I have been an offsite business exclusively for the past 8 years with a full clientele. Explain to me how leaving a bad review on yelp at a business an hour away from my clients homes would benefit me? You are trying to make this into something it's not, to protect your therapist. The well being of a person should be more important than the reputation of ONE therapist working at your store. read more

No complaints about my experience at InSPArations. I came here a couple weeks ago for a haircut and a manicure prior to starting a new job. My stylist, Janelle, took about 5" off and gave me a fabulous, low-maintenance cut. She was very communicative throughout the whole process. I had a spa manicure done by Melissa, which was incredibly relaxing. The exfoliating salt(?) scrub was a nice touch, and the manicure lasted for just under two weeks. Prices were fairly competitive for the area, and the atmosphere was homey and a little more down-to-earth than a lot of day spas. I'll be back! read more

It's an adorable little place in Old Orcutt and nice to have something local for those days when you want to treat yourself. I have been in a few times for different treatments and it has been wonderful. The last facial I had wasn't that great, I wish I could recall her name, because I don't want her again. She was too rough on my skin and pulled it back and forth like taffy. It wasn't easy to relax or enjoy myself, but everyone else I have been to over there was great! I've been to Insparations for 2 massages now, and will definitely go back. I was even able to get in the same week, which was great! It's an adorable little place in Old Orcutt, with parking on site (mind you, I'm use to San Francisco, where there is no parking for anything). When I walked in, I was offered yummy strawberry water and had a great hour long massage by Jaylynn. The swedish massage was perfect for my sensitive body, I bruise easily and rather enjoy the massage than find it painful, plus, I didn't have too many knots to work out this time. Next time I may not pay the extra $10 for aromatherapy; I just didn't feel it was quite worth it - I think the lavender was just used twice as it was sort of waved over my nose so I could inhale it.. and while I love lavender, I can get that at home. All in all, great, I felt like butter afterwards, and went home to melt into the couch with water and a book. I'll definitely be back. read more

Went here for eyelash extensions (by Sheila), don't waste your money. They fell off after a week. I rescheduled again and explained and they said I could upgrade to the full set for half price. They then called later and tried to reschedule me and charge me FULL price and went back on all they said. Needless to say I went else where (Mallica's Natural Beauty) and I couldn't be happier! My lashes last a month plus!!! May be a little more but you pay for what you get. read more
