Upon entering I was greeted by the two staff members with a pleasant hello and the question of how can we help you today? Meanwhile both of these guys were clearly in the middle of assembling/ servicing bikes but didn't seem to mind taking a minute to help me find what I was looking for. This was huge for me as i've been to other shops in the past and have had the opposite experience. One time the staff of another local shop couldn't be bothered to look up from whatever they were doing to assist me when I was literally there to buy a bike... a nice top of the line gravel bike I wanted for a long time..that experience left me so jaded I took my business elsewhere. Long story long that was not the case with these dudes, and after helping me find the helmet and peddles I needed I learned a bunch about the owner Jake and head mechanic Ed. Both of them local to the area - their stoke and knowledge of the neighboring trail systems was wonderful and they even hooked me up w/ a shop water bottle - I've got a zillion bottles but who doesn't love free swag?? Safe to say I left shop more stoked on riding than when I walked in and fully intend to shop here again in the future. Lastly, the aesthetics were modern and major bonus points for the sick grunge station they had on!

I'll start off with the good: they were very nice *before* we rented the bikes. We had a…read moremiscommunication and headed up to Ipswich on Memorial Day, but they turned out to be closed (only the Boston location was open). Because of the misunderstanding they offered us a 50% discount for the future, which we were excited to use. We planned another trip up and when I called, Steve advised me to book the reservation and he'd apply the discount afterwards. We rented 2 e-bikes for $200, and had a nice day riding around the north shore. At the time we picked them up, Steve mentioned that he owed us the discount. We dropped them off at the end of the day and everything seemed good. Unfortunately it was never applied I've heard zilch from Steve since then. I've emailed multiple times about it and gotten no response. At this point it's been a month. Presumably since we've paid he just doesn't care? In the end, we had been willing to pay full price the first time around, but it's really disappointing to get a bait-and-switch like this.

Visited this place in October with a coworker we both bought Segway scooters for our commute to…read morework. My coworker took his right on the spot. Mine wasn't ready. I was told to come back tomorrow. I tried calling the next day, but nobody answered the phone so I showed up they didn't remember me. I told him I had purchased a scooter yesterday with my coworker, and then they went to look for it and they said it still wasn't ready and they needed to charge it . I came back the following day called again. No answer showed up didn't know who I was again reminded him an went to get my scooter ready for me to take one problem, though there was no charger with the brand new scooter. He could not find it. So he gave me a charger from behind the counter fast forward to today, May 5, 2026. I tried calling again no answer so I drove in. Doors were locked. Lights are on went to the front and back entrance. No sign of anyone one last check I see the guy who sold me the scooter in the window. I motion to him to come over. He comes over. he lets me in. I tell him about my scooter, he tells me to bring it in. I told him the back brake is no longer working, and my rear tire was making a grinding noise. He told me I could leave it to fill out my information before leaving. I asked him when he thought somebody would be able to take a look at it and he told me about a month. He stated the technician wasn't in today and that they had a backlog of scooters that needed to be repaired, which he pointed to in the corner and then told me there was multiple down in the basement of the same model. I told him that wasn't an option for me to wait over a month and that the scooter is still under warranty for another five months he tried to refer me to a scooter shop in Cambridge, which I live nowhere near and not paying for something that was under warranty. I then asked him what to do and he told me to call Segway the scooter company. And then again referred me to the scooter shop in Cambridge, which I had to reiterate that was not an option and I am not paying for something that is still under warranty. I asked him for Segway's number which he told me he did not have and to "Google it". My only dealings with this place twice have not been good and not the best customer service to say the least. Scooters were $1100 with tax and are under warranty for another five months and they are telling me I have to wait over a month to even get it looked at. Unacceptable!

I called and gave my problem and Hunter advised to bring it in to see what the issue was. He got right on it and diagnosed the problem. He couldn't solve my issue as it needs a new battery and he had none in stock. I thanked him and asked what I owed him and he said nothing because I couldn't help you get back on your bike. I am an avid cyclist in road, mountain and gravel cycling, and Papa Wheelies has been my go to bike…read moreshop for a number of years. Their customer service and knowledge of all types of riders and bikes is why I choose to patronize them, as well as why I will send all my friends who I try to convince to get into cycling. They truly just want you to get the best bike for yourself. Not the most expensive or the flashiest bike. They know their stuff and they truly just want to match everyone to a bike that will make them happy and give them the best riding experience. Their repair staff is also top notch. I have had some whacky issues with my bikes over the years and they have solved them every single time. Several years ago, I purchased an Orbea mountain bike through them. Unfortunately, there was a manufacturers defect with the dropper post (not Papa Wheelie's fault - a manufacturing issue). The staff at Papa Wheelie's took my bike in and took care of the entire process in dealing with the claim and getting the part from the manufacturer and got me back on my bike quite quickly considering many of the parts were coming in from Spain. I am always team support your local bike shop, but I am specifically team support Papa Wheelies as your lbs, because they truly care. Yes, you can order a bike online direct from manufacturers, but nothing beats the experience of going in and working with the people at Papa Wheelies to figure out what bike works for you and making adjustments to that bike or getting a bike fit to make sure that it is the best possible machine you can ride. It's an investment and Papa Wheelies makes that process 100 times easier. Lastly, I'll add that bikes can be expensive. Tax on expensive things can be expensive. New Hampshire doesn't have taxes. Are you doing the math with me? If you are buying a bike for several thousand dollars in other New England states, you can end up paying several hundred dollars in taxes. You can avoid that by heading on up to beautiful tax free New Hampshire and buying your bike at Papa Wheelies.

Papa Wheelies showed a real lack of professionalism over the past couple of days. After seeing…read moretheir business practices first hand I'd avoid this place. Late last month I got an email from them advertising an end of summer sale. It indicated that they took trade-ins and even included a calculator where I could figure out the value of my bike. I checked on-line and their website indicated that a bike I wanted was "in store". I spoke with the owner, Dan Houston. He was okay with the calculated value of my bike. The problem was, he said, the bike wasn't in-stock and it wouldn't be a good deal for him. I double checked on-line and found that the bike was showing to be in stock. I called their other store to be sure and they indicated that they had the bike I wanted. I don't know what happened but the guy at the warehouse said it was definitely there. So I went back in and told them that there must have been a mistake. Dan was not in. Josh Pierce indicated that the bike was not in stock. They did have a different color and since it was available (and already built) I said I would take that one instead. It's one excuse after another with these guys. Josh looked at my bike, found an imperfection in the paint and a couple of dirt marks (that cleaned right off), and said the bike could be worth $1,000 less than Dan had indicated the day before. He said if I wanted the new bike it was an additional $800 over their advertised price. After seeing their business practices first hand I'd avoid this place. My expectations were based completely on the numbers they gave me. If they find out that their advertised prices turned out to be too low they should just accept their mistake. Instead they wasted my time. Papa Wheelies did advertise they were having a special ("Last Chance to Save Big on End-of-Season Bikes"), their bike was on sale and the value I determined for my bike was based on what they provided. I thought the advertising was deceptive.
