I have been a customer of Buchika's since 1983. I have always recieved good advice and knowledge about ski equipment. Dave and Mike amongst many other sales reps are outstanding . My most recent experience was at the end of 2021 . I had an issue with a pair of skis, Volkl was the manufacturer. Buchika's went above and beyond with their communication to Volkl pertaining to the issue I had. After consideration Volkl agreed to a full replacement and warranted the skis. After a 10 minute conversation with Mike mostly , I'm thrilled to be riding a new pair M6 Mantra. I can't thank Dave and Mike enough along with Volkl . Having confidence with sticks underneath is crucial . These skis wil be awesome Skiing the East and nimble in the glades . Pray for snow!!!! read more

This is a good bike shop. I bought a bike from them and didn't like the fit and returned it with no issue. They immediately contacted me when the size I wanted came in. I am a bike noob and they were patient and helped me find the proper size. They seem to have more inventory than other shops in my area. CONS: They have a large staff but can get overwhelmed when it is busy. read more

Had a unique problem with a high-end bicycle and stopped by the shop. Staff warmly greeted me and rather than giving me a ticket and telling me to come back next week, they immediately put the bike on the rack and asked, "Mind if we take a look at it for a few minutes?" After some quick MacGyver-ing, they said, "Would you mind if we fixed it now? Ten minutes." Wow. Love this shop. read more

What a great experience. We have "leased" skis for the past few years and have ALWAYS had great service. I lost my daughters slip and was under a time crunch to get her skis ready for the season and Dave told me not to worry. He not only took us in for another fitting but also had his staff give the skis a "tune up." It is refreshing to know that some businesses are still run on trust and GREAT customer service. Avoid this shop!!!! I ordered a set of Thule locks (2 pack) on the website for pickup at the Salem, NH store. The lock set was ready for pickup the next day (Saturday) at 6PM however the store closes at 5PM based on their closing time stated on the website. Foul 1. On Sunday I picked up the product and brought it home for installation. It was obvious upon opening the packaging that the product had been tampered with. Used? There were two installation keys when there should have been one. Two locks (yes correct) however they did not accept the same key. Yes this lock set was not key alike. The package conatined one comfort key which fit one of the locks and two stamped keys which fit the second lock. Clearly this product had been previously tampered with. Foul 2. The product should have contained two locks (keyed alike) one installation key and two comfort keys. The management corrected the situation however no appology was provided, no discount to address my return trip to the store ( adistnace for me). No percent off a future product etc. Honestly the two people I dealt with struck me as pure arrogance!! Take the money and screw the customer and service. Now a days products are expensive (BS markups). Service makes the difference in a business serviving or not. Good luck!! As for your benz taking up two spots in the lot, if your worried about it that much, leave it at home and grow up. Leave the spots for yor potential new customers which I hope are few. read more

I snowboard so I can't really speak for the bike services. I picked up new boots here last season and a new board this year and I'm very happy with both. The staff here is very knowledgeable and willing to find the best fit for you. Prices are also good. The only problem is that at some points in the year their inventory is a bit low, but they gave me good information on where to find the things I needed and gave me a free lift pass for my troubles. If I need any other stuff I'll definitely go here first. read more

Buchika's is great! I like that it's not crazy busy with no customer help :) We worked with a guy name Mike, and he is awesome with all his help and knowledge. We ended up dropping big coin here, but good value too! He discounted one of our items, knowing that the item was going on sale in 2 weeks ... NICE!!! How awesome is that? I also price compared with other places, and they are Very reasonable priced! Bikes purchased there ... what I would call 100% support ... fittings, repairs, adjustments! and their bike prices are guaranteed low prices ... which puts my mind to rest :D We will back here for more bike and ski equipment! I am eyeing some new winter wear! Sale coming up ... columbus weekend! I recommend highly! There is a ski shop around the corner, but something about this place seems more reasonable and likeable :) Definitely will return! read more

I wouldn't trust my bike to be touched anywhere else. Consistently excellent and reliable customer service every time I've visited. As a new cyclist I made my way into Buchika's after having a big issue at another bike shop that left me stranded on the side of the road with a broken bike due to a faulty tuning (over tightened the tension on my derailleur) and I've never thought about going anywhere since. Their pricing is excellent, their staff is knowledgeable, and there is no pressure. They also don't make you feel bad for asking rookie questions and enjoy helping you understand more about your bike and how it works. They've got a Buchika's loyalist in me for all my biking needs. If you are looking for a bike shop that knows their stuff, has excellent service, and very fair pricing I highly recommend them! read more

On a long training ride, my wife's rear derailleur suddenly locked up. We were a few miles away and made our way to Buchika's. It was kind of like finding an oasis in a desert, and not one of the fake Bugs Bunny kinds, either. Buchika's is the real deal. The bike mechanic could have just said "You need a new shifter, and we don't have any in stock," which most bike shops would undoubtedly have done, because the problem was hidden deeply inside the mechanism. Instead, he kept trying, and went deep into the shifter. He found the problem, managed to fix it and put us back on the road. Not so unusual, you say? Well, even if you aren't impressed by his beyond-the-call-of-duty service, you might be when you learn that the 60-minute fix lasted well past closing time, and that he only charged us $10. Total! Buchika's people clearly know and love bikes. But they're also committed to their customers. We are now huge fans, and we only wish there were a shop closer to our Boston home. read more

The service here far exceeded my expectation and is beyond any other bike shop I have been to. I recently brought my mountain bike to get a new rear derailleur, chain and grips put on. Both the parts and service came in at less than 50% the cost I was expecting. Furthermore, the team was knowledgeable, fast and accommodating (I had some additional work done when I picked it up and they did that right on the spot and didn't charge me). As an end note, my mother purchased her road bike from here earlier this year. She's not very tech savvy and asked me to post a review because the service was so great. For someone who doesn't know the ins and outs of top of the line bike gear, she had to rely on the expertise of the people working in the shop. She didn't feel pressured at all and is confident she got the right bike at a good cost. Great work guys, you've got a few customers for life! read more

They essentially told me that my bicycle was too "not it" to repair. For that they deserve only one star, because a bike shop that isn't in to promoting cycling in any way that they can (rather than just selling new bikes) is not the kind of shop that I care to frequent. Let's just say that when I do buy a new bike, it's not going to be from the snobbery at Buchikas. But they get an additional star because some other guy on some other day was willing to break out his map and show me the cool local places to ride. It was so nice to deal w/ people that are genuine and know customer service! My boyfriend bought his Cannondale Trail SL5 here and we took it in today 11/10/12 for it's tune up. When we stopped in on our 1st visit, it was more to just look around and check out their selection. A great guy named Austin was very helpful and informative. My boyfriend purchased his bike that day & has been very satisfied. Today, before taking his bike in, we called to see if they would be willing to take a look at my Schwinn as I recently had a tune up, at another bike store, and was less than pleased w/ their customer service and now my bike is clicking when I shift gears- they said sure bring it in. The men were so kind and took the time to look at it right then- they didn't have to do that as my boyfriend was leaving his bike but, they did. Very pleased with the prices & service from this place. My girlfriend bought a bike here last week and the service was excellent. It seemed like all bikes were priced 5-10% below retail pricing, which was most welcomed (a lot of bike shops won't budge from the manufacturers' suggested retail price). We have been shopping at Buchika's for more than 10 years and I go back to them time and time again because they give honest advice and stand behind what they sell. Whether it's skis or bikes, they know their stuff and spend the time to get the fit right. If there's something they don't know about cycling or skiing, you don't need to know it. I'm really annoyed by the people who post their temper tantrums on this list against Buchika's. It's a free country and you can shop where you like. But taking pot shots at these honest and decent people is just wrong. I believe this is a misuse of power and you really should consider actually speaking to the owners if you have an issue--especially if you're going to accuse someone of racism. read more

Went there to shop for a mountain bike. Got a sweet deal on a Stumpjumper. When I last minute decided to go tubeless, it was no problem. They gave me a great price and did it very quick. My million and one questions about MTB nerd stuff were patiently answered. As a chick getting back into the sport, with so much that has changed, it felt great to be treated in a very professional but also laid back manner. As new residents of Salem, NH we became in the market for fitness mountain bikes. I emailed local bike shops including this one asking about pricing and availability on certain bikes I was interested based on my online research. I got a helpful response within an hour from this location where the other shops too much longer and some never responded. We ended up visting the showroom in the evening just to see some of the bikes in person with no intention on purchasing yet. We were greeted by I think it was Dave. He was very friendly, personable, and highly knowledgeable. While we were initially interested in a particular model he showed us different options that may be best based on our desired use and did not try to push us to pricier bikes as many Bike Shops do. He had us jump on the bikes to help us determine the best fit for each, and explained in great deal how a bike should fit. He was able to answer literally all our numerous questions such as difference between models and even brands in way that made perfect sense but things we would have never thought about. You could tell it was his passion and he could have talked bikes all day to us. The showroom itself is massive and packed with bikes all on the floor so you can easily try each rather that many shops where they are out of reach on the walls. He even had us take out the bikes on a path around the building for as long as we wanted to try them out. Having never tried disc and hydraulic brakes and front suspension it was phenomenal performance. Pricing was competitive. Certainly better than MSRP on the brand sites such as Specialized and slightly better than the other shops that I emailed in the area price wise. Just to note they do not carry Treks but we preferred Specialized anyway. They didn't have the exact color and size we needed but they ordered them for us and they should be arriving next week at which time they will build them and tune them up for us. They even offered us a tune up and a discount if purchasing accessories with the bike. Only a small reasonable deposit was requested to place the order. Oh and they accept AMEX which is a big plus for us. While we only interacted with him, from the other reviews on here it sounds like most everyone here provides great customer service. As a shopper who utterly hates shopping in person (rather than online) because I always feel like I can't test and research on my own and always being pressured or upselled, I can say that that is not the case here and will be making all future purchases and services here. For those interested we ultimately decided on the 2014 Specialized Sport Disc 29ers which are mountain bikes but also work well relatively well on roads. read more

I took a jogging stroller, which I had just purchased used on Craigslist, in to Buchika's because after several attempts with our bike pump at home, the tires simply would not inflate. The guy in the service department inflated them for me using the store's air compressor, didn't charge me a thing, and was extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't need to buy anything yesterday, but the next time we need to make any sort of a bike- or ski-related purchase, I know where we're going! read more

I bought a bike here a few years ago & EVERY time I go in, I am greeted by the friendly staff that honestly make me feel very welcomed. AUSTIN....u rock!!! Austin is the ski guru, but has helped me MANY times since I bought my bike a few years ago. From helping me pick the right bike and getting accessories to suggesting trails to check out and everything in between, he has just been totally accommodating. Questions and help with a bike rack?? Austin is your man!! Everything he does is with enthusiasm and pure love for what he is doing. I have NEVER met someone in a similar salesman/customer service position that I can truly say "it's been a pleasure dealing with you again." I had been in the market for a new Cannondale road bike for a while and noticed Buchika's was having an end of season sale so I decided to drop in and check out what they had in stock. I was greeted immediately by an employee and was able to talk through the differences between the specific model I had been looking at as well as comparable models from different manufacturers. I was never pressured to spend more than what I told them my maximum budget was, and they even recommended a few bikes that were more inexpensive than the one I was looking at. I walked out with my new Cannondale Synapse a little over an hour later, got it for a lower price than I could find versus any store online, and even got free basic pedals and a free tune up for the future. A few hours later, I promptly crashed the bike avoiding a car. With the front carbon fork taking the worst of it after hitting a curb. I went back to Buchika's the next day with my tail between my legs expecting to be shelling out $2-300 for a new fork from Cannondale less than 24 hours after buying the bike. One of the Service Techs in the back quickly threw my bike on a stand, and while explaining the nuances of carbon fiber parts to me (as this was my first bike with carbon anything) he tested the fork in front of me. He was confident that the only damage was purely a cosmetic a paint chip and put some new clear enamel on it while also testing the shifters/derailleurs, brakes, frame and wheel straightness and deemed the bike good to go. While I'll be keeping an eye out for cracks in the fork and I would have believed the Technician if he told me I needed a new fork, he didn't try to sell me a part and didn't charge me anything for the work he did that day. I will 100% be returning to Buchika's in the future when I need anything Bike or Snowboard related. read more

These guys are just tremendous. I've bought multiple bikes from them and I've always had a superb experience. I've also sought advice a number of times and it's always given without even a moment's thought of charging for the time. Most recently John helped fit a new bike and spent at least half an hour with me looking at various aspects--saddle height, handlebar height and angle, etc. I asked if I could pay for his time and he wouldn't have it. If you are a road cycling enthuiast, this is your kind of place. I have had my mountain bike serviced here and they did a great job, which prompted me to come here when I needed a road bike. John Maurice helped me select the perfect bike and I was so impressed with the precise fitting that I got with the bike. As I started road cycling more and more I kept coming in for additional purchases such as clipless pedals, shoes and numerous other accessories. Each time I was met with knowledge, friendliness and expert advice. They tuned not only tuned my bike up for it's (and my) first century but they provided lots of support too. My husband has been so impressed with their treatment of me,that he will be going here next year for his road bike. Now that I have said the above, I do have to agree with the others, they do start to phase out the cycling stuff too early in the season and they go hard and heavy with the ski stuff- so if you like to cycle right up to the first frost they will have limited cycling accessories on display. I'm shopping for a commuter/hybrid bicycle, and a couple coworkers mentioned this store. Upon visiting, I quickly noticed that their sales floor has a strong emphasis towards skiing, to the detriment of bicycling. I had mentally pictured a large store (warehouse, even), but the place is only of moderate size. Their site is currently advertising a "tent sale" through labor day, but as the tent is only maybe 20ft x 15ft (and entirely empty as of last night), I think their marketing far exceeds their stock. They had several mountain bikes, but their selection was much more limited for hybrid/commuter models. Considering the location of the store and their emphasis towards skiing, this probably better fits their market. Nonetheless, I didn't see much for what I was looking for. The staff came off as friendly, but I didn't stick around for long, as I knew I would not find my bike here, which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to the effective 5% no-tax discount. I might just be spoiled from visiting the more commuter-oriented stores closer to Boston. These guys might very well be great for skiing, but their selection of bicycles is definitely exaggerated on their website. read more

The sales guy had a massive attitude and rolled his eyes at us when the boots didn't fit my son at first. My son is 11 and far from "fat" but the sales guy put him on the scale, announced his weight and said "guess you had a few too many cookies." Way to make an 11 year old uncomfortable. Went across the street to Ski Haus, bought new skis....much better experience! read more
