I've been going here for 3 years now. I see Dr. Ward. I come weekly for allergy shots. They are really professional and care about my needs.

Dr Scarupa clearly explained a proposed course of treatment and now I am substantially free of the allergy.

They only want to get people signed up for years of allergy shots for residual income. I had adult onset asthma and had to beg for an inhaler prescription and no one ever took out a Stethoscope to hear how inflamed my lungs were. They only wanted to sign me up for allergy shots (when half of what I tested allergic to, mold, isn't even treatable with immunotherapy). Now they keep sending me a bill for $300 saying I owe that above my insurance, but the insurance company sent me a EOB saying I wasn't responsible for any amount.

He spent a lot of time inquiring about my symptoms and medical history to get good insight into my allergies. Dr. Irons took the time to explain things very clearly...he even drew a picture to help explain what was going on inside my nose. The nurse was friendly as well and there was plenty of reading material in the exam room (while I waited for my arms to mount a response to the allergens) including a book written by his son. The office is spacious, bright, and the receptionists are very pleasant. I spent no more than 2 minutes in the actual waiting room before I was seen by Dr. Irons. Probably one of the best doctors I have ever seen.

Back up to the intake staff, the patient care & medical assistant was so welcoming, I forgot I was at a doctor's appointment. Dr. S came in so smooth & engaging, it was like old friends having conversation about allergies. He took his time & asked every question necessary to get to know me as a new patient. I can't stress enough his genuine demeanor & not checking the time to get on to the next patient. He set me up for some tests, I spent a few minutes with the Nurse & Dr. S was right back in my room. He went over my results (A+), providing me with some suggestive proactivity & I was on my way. Being a new patient can be somewhat anxious, yet Dr. Sekhsaria & his entire medical staff made my 1st time visit a great experience. AA&SC is located in the popular Executive Medical complex next to Kaiser Permanente, just a few minutes from Pike & Rose.

I personally work in the medical field and I know the usual complaints that patients have regarding…read moredoctors appointments. So I would say that this is a very reliable review. Things that I look for: 1. Average waiting time 2. Bedside manner of the physician. 3. Professionalism, attentiveness and friendliness of the staff 4. Actual time spent with the physician (1 on 1) I went to see Dr. Sekhsaria for a full evaluation of my seasonal allergies and my asthma. Let me start off by saying that He has a GREAT bedside manner (seriously, it feels like a casual conversation about your medical history.) Some doctors have some rehearsed script, or they seem totally unapproachable (like somehow they are better than you). NOT his case! The check in procedure was quick and easy. I'm well familiar with new patient paperwork and it is always extensive, confusing and repetitive. This was not the case at this office. Janice (friendly front desk lady) asked me for ID and insurance card and handed me 2 pages of paperwork. As soon as I finished, she finished making my chart, called my name and walked me back to the examining room. Once in the examining room, doctor Sekhsaria walked right in and introduced himself. My first impression of him was "wow. What a friendly guy!" I have to admit that I loved not having a technician asking me again ALL the usual questions with regards to my medical history. Dr. Sekhsaria does it all himself and in a timely manner (you never feel like he's rushing you out of the office.) Then I was guided to the testing room for breathing tests. Joanne, the lady that performed all my testing is incredibly friendly and super professional. She went through the directions(multiple times), indicating me how to do the tests properly. She's so patient! Lastly, back in the examining room for my skin tests and I waited 20-30 minutes for an allergic response (yes, that IS the standard.) Dr. Sekhsaria came back in, measured, recorded and reviewed the results with me. He explained the treatment options and we selected the one he thought best. He wrote down my regimen on a piece of paper and told me to come back in 4 weeks to reassess me and see how the treatment was working. Walked me to the front and boom! I was done. Just like the check in, quick and friendly check out. Payed my copay and I was out. From the moment I walked in until I walked out, about 1hr and 50 minutes. Given all the testing, the treatment provided and all the paperwork that usually entails with New patients this is deff a winner. To me, it's an A++ for this physicians and his staff.

When you sign up for allergy shots, you need to sign something saying you'll pay thousands of dollars for treatment if you don't show up for your injections. For the last year, they have been closed more than they have been open. They do not communicate these closures to their patients with the exception of posting a sign on the door of their clinic (you need to physically go there to get the hours). If you call for the hours, you must get in the que for a scheduling agent who may or may not have the correct hours. Occasionally, you get a text with "updated" hours that is often inaccurate. For the last 6+ months I've averaged 2+ visits per shot and have been late with treatments because they are not open. Staff have actually chastised me for not getting injections on time. If you ask staff for help to address this issue you either get no response or "sorry we can't help". They should not be offering ongoing treatment that they cannot offer with reasonable access and in accordance with clinical guidelines.

I was advised to undergo urgent allergy testing and came here because first available appointment…read more Through allergy testing I thought things were "ok" and that Dr. Ward was just a fast talker (like me)- though among other things, I felt somewhat uncomfortable about being pressured to receive initial immunotherapy shot prior to actually being physician-consented. For various still-unanswered questions (which I had asked Dr. Ward), I sought 2nd opinion from another practice - which I should have consulted at least before starting immunotherapy (bc too late to simply transfer care once shots started, without starting all over again). This practice is *practice-centered* - NOT patient/person-centered. Unbelievably, front desk insisted ("practice policy") that I would have to pay for my own medical records, which they would release to other HCPs for free. So I had my own records from THIS practice transferred to OTHER practice, which released them to me - for free. More importantly, the other practice's allergist was graciously willing to take the time to understand my complicated/nonlinear history. Even though I was a few minutes late (for the other practice), she apologized and continued to come back to talk to me in between subsequent patients, which I appreciated as exceptional community-based care. The other practice told me that I was allergic to something (via testing) that hadn't been previously discussed with me. When the other practice showed me my record from this practice, I said I thought the result had just been reported on the wrong line and crossed out but not initialed (as is usual practice for corrections in medical documentation). Due to lack of initials, the other practice said that I would have to clarify with this practice. Nurse giving shot said that she "would try to help me" - but then, as I could overhear from other end of waiting room, incorrectly said that I was "demanding" to speak with Dr. Ward - whom I was going to simply message thru portal, as practice had (somewhat callously) advised me to do last time, even though I was physically at the practice for shot. While I was messaging Dr. Ward, front desk said I had "co-pay" then that I was "cutting into my time" even though no one had told me that this question had been turned into an actual "appointment." I had to say that I didn't think it was appropriate for me to have to pay co-pay just to clarify documentation question/concern raised by another practice. Dr. Ward did not seem to care about confusion/inconvenience arising from documentation; I did not feel comfortable asking her any more medical/allergy questions. Unfortunately, I will need to come here for several more months (if not years) for allergy shots (bc too late to transfer care without starting over). But I will likely have to take my actual medical/allergy questions/concerns to a *different* practice that actually *cares about* and *respects* me both as a patient and as a person. Hopefully this review will encourage the practice to be more patient/person-centered, thorough and patient, respectful re: confidentiality, etc. - and prospective patients to consider that community-based allergy practices are not simply interchangeable (even if might perform same testing).

I highly recommend this practice. Dr. Ward, my doctor, is smart, caring and knowledgeable. If she's…read morenot available on short notice, I am confident seeing any doctor in this top notch practice. Recently they helped get an issue straightened out with my insurance company.
