The Institute provides really good eyecare and helps to solve problems that may not be solved by your local "optician". Best to see a professional optometrist any day and the Institute staff are very good. read more

It's with a very heavy heat that I bring you this news: I need reading glasses!…read more I'd originally done the eye test at my local Specsavers, but the selection of frames wasn't great and so I ventured elsewhere to find some more stylish glasses. These glasses that I picked up first were also the ones I ended up buying. The frame is called Cartwright and I immediately liked them. The service was great and although they said that it would take up to 7 business days for my glasses to be ready, I received a notification the next business day that I'd be able to pick them up. Also, I thought they were a good value for money: £150 including prescription lenses.

These would be the styles to show up in our part of the country in a year, or two. The wife liked the styles. We did some looking, and in a few minutes we had frames to take with us. These were not something we were going to be able to get in the States. We will get her prescription updated at home and lenses made. The young lady who helped us could not have been be nicer. She made sure the frames were the correct size for my wife's head, and that they fit properly. We are happy.

I didn't know Jays existed at first, but after asking in Specsavers and being somewhat abrasively informed they don't fix stuff I stumbled across it in the nearby Aylesham Centre. The lady I talked to was very reassuring and said she'd have to send my specs away before she'd know if they were definitely fixable, but that if they were it'd only cost £20! Seeing as, yes, they cost more than £20, it was definitely worth it, and to my infinite surprise and pleasure they were back with me just four days later. So, for sunglasses fixing they're friendly, efficient and reasonably priced. For other things I don't know yet, but after such a pleasant experience I'm sure I'll be using Jays for my next sight test at least.

My lenses were thick; they made the Hubble Space Telescope look lean. Yes I was less Harry Potter and more Penfold. I looked longingly at two of my saviours, contact lenses and high index lenses but alas the prices were far too high have to keep dishing out. So it was I lived my life behind an NHS glass curtain. In adulthood I found the wonders of Indian opticians, and realised how excessive the prices were here, I was free! Pity I had to go to india for it! Although there are plenty of online retailers Iris the first shop with a physical showroom that made high index at a reasonable price. Only two downsides; you have to buy a designer frame and there is no in house optician. They made the glasses I'm wearing now and as the lenses were so cheap the whole package ended up being very reasonable. The service was good and fast and I'm planning on getting another pair soon. Top Tip - before you go in, know you intra-pupillary distance, they need this for the lenses and its not normally written on your eye prescription so you have to ask specifically. There you have it an easy way round the glass curtain.

I have been a client of the eye place spending thousands of pounds over the course of 2 years for Ortho-K treatment. Today I arrived ten minutes late for an appointment and was told that I would not be seen and would have to leave. I was literally told "we can see you but if another patient comes in you have to get out immediately". Not even dogs are spoken to in this manner. I was literally greeted by the attending optician telling me "you are late... mate" in a condescending tone. I have never been referred to as "mate" and this is definitely not the tone staff should be taking with customers and patients. I highly recommend investing in lessons to teach manners and RESPECT and customer service. Over time I cannot count the numerous occasions that I have been made to wait (sometimes twenty minutes or more!) while the attending optician would sit on their office on their computer with no patient in sight. I understand that being late caused an issue however they could have gotten started on the appointment instead of wasting time telling me how busy the day is and that the attending optician won't even have time for lunch. It is not my problem that they are not able to schedule appointments efficiently. Alex should invest more in training the staff on how to treat clients and how to ensure that the proper tone is adopted when dealing with issues. I will definitely not be returning and for other patients considering Ortho-K I would recommend Visioncare on Harley street.
