I stopped by Sanborn's Mexican Insurance so I'd be covered in north Baja…read more A lot of people don't know this, but although your U.S.-based car insurance most likely covers you and your vehicle if something happens while you're in Mexico - the Mexican police DO NOT accept this as proof of financial responsibility. So, you may "think" you're covered, but end up in a Mexican jail until you bail yourself out with "fines". A policy from Sanborn's provides proof of "financial responsibility". My Mom used to say, "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it." I guess this applies here. Emanuel is very friendly and offers excellent, solid coverage - whether it be for the day, a couple of days or an annual policy (which is the way to go if you visit Mexico frequently).
