    So proud

If you want help on a specific school topic or homework, maybe a high school tutor will do. If you want to EMPOWER your child for long-term success, you will find a professional academic coach in Ms Rebecca. WOW! I can't overstate the PROFOUND impact Ms Rebecca has had on our family! Last year, there was a lot of crying, resentment, nagging, back-talk, stress, cramming, and late nights with our 4th grader. As working parents, it was horrible... but even worse for a struggling boy. He loves math, reads ok, but hated doing any writing assignments; especially long-term projects like book reports. We were tired of hearing "I can't do this... It's TOO HARD!" It's been a journey and we are so proud he just earned honor roll. Wow! With Ms Rebecca's personalized assessment, we learned our son was well behind in reading comprehension & writing formulation. She showed us her plan and gave us a weekly update. She made quick work to build rapport and started by meeting our son where he's at, not where he's supposed to be. He loved doing the "affirmations" with Ms Rebecca. After a few sessions, we started to see his confidence & motivation grow. He was genuinely excited about his coaching sessions. She made them fun & sometimes played his favorite board game after the lesson. Ms Rebecca is not a magician. Our son still doesn't enjoy writing, but knows what to do & has the confidence to get it done. She has really helped our family & we appreciate her more than she knows. We even signed up our younger son for the abbreviated winter program. Here are our two boys graduating from their Intelli-G programs.

Rebecca stepped in, and helped my daughter in areas that I had struggled to help her with. In just a matter of days my daughter showed improvement in her math skills. She helped my daughter build a good math foundation. Although the time went by quickly she gave additional instructions on how to continue building on the foundation. I'm thankful for the way Rebecca made learning math a fun activity. My daughter now has more confidence in her math skills. Thank you Rebecca!

We had told her up front that our child has behavioral issues including ADHD, and she reassured us that they work with children like this all the time, which is why we chose Sylvan to begin with. But after one month of disappointment, we had no choice but to stop. It's as if she gave up on our our child. And when it came time to leave, she offered us nothing--no apology, no guidance, no recommendations, no hope, no closure, nothing. By the way our kids also reported that one of the tutors even threw my kid's stuffed animal across the room against a wall. We understand our kid shouldn'tve brought it in the first place, but that doesn't excuse such violent behavior. Lastly our children built up thousands of "points" but never knew how to redeem them and were never even offered the chance to do so. In short, don't waste your time and money here. Your children deserve so much better.

My son scored badly on the assessment due to being unmotivated to answer the test questions properly. I was discouraged and heartbroken but Minera ensured me that there are kids that come to Sylvan with similar issues and struggles. She assured me that they will work with him because they have dealt with kids with ADHD in the past. She also reassured me that there are some kids who displayed similar findings with assessments and they showed improvement. I also ended up enrolling my 2 other younger children here to accompany my other son. We did not want my other son to feel as if there was something wrong with him especially since he was already struggling academically, behaviorally not to mentioned he was discouraged and had low self esteem. I had such high hopes but unfortunately things didn't quite work out as I had hoped. The tutors were all wonderful and professional. They all tried so hard to help my son but unfortunately his behavior and disruption to others students became an issue. My other two kids did great at the end and were doing well but unfortunately my one son that desperately needed the most help, did not. I guess despite the great rating they cannot always help everyone. Each child has a different personality, learning style and ability and unfortunately it was my son that was too far to be reached. I wish that it could have worked out. But unfortunately I sensed a lot of frustration hence the long text messages as well as a brief update from Minera one afternoon. She updated me regarding my son's behavior and inability to move forward in the curriculum due to his refusal to show his work and knowledge of the subject. I sensed her frustration, in which I do not blame her. I would have hoped that they would have been able to be more professional and knowing how to deal with kids with ADHD like they said they did. It was discouraging and upsetting to see the opposite attitude, body language and demeanor this time around. Her voice as well as her facial expressions did not offer any sense of hope or recommendations to help improve or change the situation. I feel Minera gave me a false sense of hope and did not deliver their promise. Thank you to all the tutors though who did try to help my son. I deeply appreciate the time, patience you all put into my 3 kids, as for Minera, I am disappointed in your professionalism. You should not make assurances that you cannot keep.

Overall, the…read moreteaching quality is solid, with a few outstanding instructors whose sessions fill up SO quickly. Because those high-demand teachers are often requested a week in advance, it can be difficult to book them last minute. Most teachers are good and will ensure you understand the material, especially if you come prepared with specific questions. With the strongest instructors, you're thoroughly covered. They make sure their explanations are clear and detailed, and they check for understanding. With the less effective teachers, you may need to advocate for yourself more and do additional work independently to get your doubts resolved. Math instruction here is a particular strength!!Shout-out to my goat Victor, his guidance helped me ace a Pre-Calculus test I was convinced I was going to die during. On SAT prep specifically: after attending both Elite and C2 bootcamps, I personally no longer believe SAT prep courses are even worth it. just get good at desmos bro, you don't need to even know math to do well (as someone who scored 1500). If you are set on doing a bootcamp however, C2 was by far the better experience between the two. For college applications, I would not recommend spending your hours here. While they offer college-app help, in my experience they're not especially attuned to what admissions offices prioritize, nor do they try to research it at all. You'll likely get more value from the excellent (and free) resources available on YouTube. That said, their writing + ELA support for school is fine so dw about that. MADE coffee is almost right next door and I love getting coffee before I go in Saturday mornings, that is a mega plus. overall, I really like coming here and it has saved my butt multiple times. the community of it all is wonderful and they make you feel encouraged no matter what. I'm someone who has to engage with a topic multiple times to understand something, so often I feel pretty stupid when I go to other places for tutoring help, but I never feel like that at all here! I feel safer to ask questions I would feel stupid for asking at other places. edit: a lot of my experience with this place has been during the summer before senior year, and I've heard that the vibe at C2 is a lot different during summers, so that should be something to note

Well I'd like to take a break from Hot Dog writing for a moment and tell you about Eye Level. Last year when my daughter was finishing 2nd grade, I felt the school had met their common core goals by mid April and was just sitting out the clock until June. Homework stopped coming home and days were wasted. My friend had been sending his daughter to Eye Level in Huntington Beach for over a year and was very happy with the results between public school and Eye Level once a week. He did all the research into Kumon vs Eye Level and from what I understand the biggest difference is the teacher involvement. This Anaheim Hills Eye Level location is very well run by a friendly lady named Chris. Chris did a placement exam with my daughter for over an hour, then explained what areas she needed more work on. The biggest complaint I have about common core in the public school, is that they kind of just check the box when a kid passes a test and move on, assuming the child will retain that passed skill forever without practicing it again. Well the brain doesn't work like that, you need constant repetition or you'll forget. Eye Level workbooks provide plenty of practice on skills until they have truly mastered them. Each kid works at their own pace and class size is small (usually no more than 5) so they can get plenty of help from the teacher when necessary. The teachers are adults and have teaching experience in their subjects, so you won't get any part time high school students here. Each kid gets a backpack and folder to keep their homework in, so as to keep it separate from regular school. The homework assignments are geared for them to be able to do it by themselves. As such, I never have to fight with my daughter about doing her homework. The parent is asked to look over it, but not correct it. Any mistakes will be corrected in class that way the Eye Level teachers know what the kid needs more work on. I've had a few other parents ask me, why pay for Eye Level, when you can find similar teaching resources online and work with your kids at home. Well, when my wife and I have to teach our daughter, it's World War III. She fights us over everything. We are her parents and it's hard for her to see us as anything but the person who she never wants to be wrong in front of. Thus we have conflict. But she seems to be very polite to her teachers at Eye Level, and willing to take instruction from them. Now that we've started 3rd grade, I can tell that my daughter came in ahead of the game and is easily doing her multiplication and division, while some of the other kids are struggling with it. Chris knew that would be a key area of the common core for 3rd grade and spent plenty of time working on it this summer. It seems to have paid off. Chris has done a nice job making the Eye Level group seem like a community. She often plans fun nights, where on Friday night the kids will come in for pizza and games, while the parents can use it to grab some dinner and make a date night out of it. It's win/ win and my daughter always wants to go. We've been doing Math and English class every week for 6 months now, and are very happy with Eye Level. I also believe it has given my daughter some extra confidence that she will do well in school.
