The building itself is state of the art with a large indoor playground, sensory room (only place I've seen with this type of activity), huge gymnasium for them to blow off steam, and a cool activity center with arcade games, computer activities, tv's, etc. I would highly recommend this establishment to any parents trying to make one of life's most important decisions. After roughly 18 consecutive years of being loyal patrons, at the request of our 12 year old…read moredaughter, our family left DeVeau's School of Gymnastics. Our child was made to feel uncomfortable and unsafe by owner/operator, Luke Lautzenheiser. It's been a few months and she still cries daily. DeVeau's coins itself as "...your kid's HAPPY PLACE" but how is that the case when a child is bullied and retaliated against (by the new owner) at the only gym she's known since age 3? This review is not to bash the gym but to share our heartbreaking experience. For my 12 year old child- it's about kids hearing the devastating voice of their peer and her inability to comprehend being bullied and retaliated against by an 'adult' at a place she once called her second home. For us as parents- it's about an unbelievable experience at a place we've loved, raved about and supported for many years and the continual mental trauma our 12 year old daughter suffers from months after making one of the hardest decisions of her little life. DeVeau's isn't the same place it used to be. Now the new owner walks out on the practice floor to intimidate children during practice. It's a place where children who are learning/practicing skills that if not fully focused could potentially cause harm being put in the position to focus on- Is Mr. Luke going to approach me today and if so, when and where? That was our child's focus at practice even with parental support in attendance. After giving notice, Luke still found a way to come after her by having his program manager attempt to keep her from competing at (what my kid calls "Big Kid's Nationals") USA Gymnastics Championships (although she qualified at her first competition) by failing to register her and not telling us until after the deadline. Yes, this happened at DeVeau's. Thankfully, a new gym (out of state) allowed her to join their team and they were able to get that corrected so she could practice and compete at Nationals. Sadly, this is the kind of retaliatory behavior that happens when a child doesn't agree to stay at DeVeau's once the gym owner apologizes after admittedly making her feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there are no other trampoline and tumbling programs in the Indianapolis area so our daughter had to give up her dream of continuing the sport for her current safety. There are so many wonderful coaches at DeVeau's and they are the best part of the gym. Even with the traumatic experience our daughter endured, she does have many wonderful memories of her time with coaches she loves. Those experiences are the things we will cherish. Hopefully those memories will help her in her healing process.

As both a mother of a child that attended Weston school, and an employee of Weston school, I could…read morenever recommend this establishment to anyone. Understaffing is a severe issue because they treat their employees like trash, which means the children get shuffled endlessly around to different rooms, even during meals/snacks they are forced to move from room to room, often having to bring their plates of food with them. The children are so disregulated and bored there is frequent fighting and massive behavioral issues that teachers try to quell, but with limited success due to the frequency and severity and the amount of students with issues like hitting, throwing hard objects and biting and attacking staff. My daughter started out loving coming to school but by a few weeks in she would cry every day and beg me not to make her go. She frequently shook, cried, and clung to myself and her father as she entered a classroom full of behaviors like screaming and tackling. There is a mold issue in the school that is not addressed, there are very little supplies, and almost nothing available to implement the curriculum. The burden of fighting for these items is placed squarely on the shoulders of teachers. We're frequently forced to come in sick, a coworker was even forced to come in actively vomiting, having to carry around grocery bags to vomit into in case she could not be relieved from the classroom to vomit privately in time. The cost is astronomical when you consider that the curriculum is not implemented in most classrooms, children play with the same bins of toys day in and day out with little variance while also being shuffled along in a hyper-structured formulaic day. The food is BAD quality. I frequently had to serve green bananas, spoiled celery, grayish hotdogs etc, and children never receive a full bun, only half! We were literally required to serve every "sandwich" or hot dog open faced or with a half bun because of serving size requirements. It was pathetic and every new teacher who came in had issues with the portion sizes. We also gave children water unfiltered directly from the tap. No filtration system for the water. I was prompted to hide refilling the water pitcher from parents because they KNOW it's wrong. Toxic environment for children and staff, stay away from The Weston School. Everything is a facade to look good for NAEYC meanwhile the children suffer for the school to look good on paper. Sad.

I went in excited, motivated, and ready to build relationships with the children and families, and they truly were the best part of every single day. The parents, the students, their smiles, their joy... those moments were the only thing that made showing up worth it. Unfortunately, everything else was overshadowed by management practices that, in my opinion, drained teacher morale faster than I have ever seen in any school or childcare setting. From day one, I noticed inconsistent treatment among staff. I was written up for things other teachers did daily and far louder than I ever was, yet nothing seemed to happen when they did the exact same things. It quickly became clear that concerns were only heard when your voice was loud unless someone in management did not like who you were. Rules were different depending on the person, and it created an environment of fear and distrust. Teacher turnover is unbelievably high, and not because the job is hard, but because many of us felt there was no trust, no respect, and no support coming from management. Several staff members shared their discomfort with being pressured to work while sick, even when clearly not well enough to care for children. Disagreeing with management on even small things often led to threats of write ups or termination. It felt less like a workplace and more like walking on eggshells every single day. During my first month, I used a simple educational song during curriculum time, something I have used in multiple previous centers with no issue. Instead of receiving guidance or feedback, I was told that using an iPad for teaching was unacceptable and that if I did it again, I would be pulled into the office. That moment alone showed me how little creativity or flexibility was allowed, even though so many teachers there hold associates, bachelors, or even masters degrees. Hearing leadership say that our education does not mean anything without a short term certificate was, in my opinion, incredibly disrespectful to the hard work educators put into their training. As a teacher and a parent, I found the lack of consistent behavior support and classroom management deeply concerning. When children were being consistently harmed by peers, I often saw little being done to address repeated behaviors. Incidents were minimized or brushed aside, leaving teachers feeling powerless and families unknowingly trusting that everything was being handled properly. It is heartbreaking seeing children go home with injuries and knowing nothing is truly being done to prevent it from happening again. I know for a fact that more than a dozen teachers have left or are looking for new jobs, not because they do not love teaching, but because their confidence, self worth, and passion were worn down day after day. These were floaters, lead teachers, assistants, people from every part of the building. When so many educators from so many roles all feel the same way, that should say something. If you are a current family, I strongly encourage you to pay attention, ask questions, and trust your instincts. If you are a parent searching for a daycare, please know there are many other options nearby that treat both teachers and children with the respect, support, and care they deserve. I wish I had known before accepting a job and before trusting this place with children. I hope sharing my personal experience helps someone else avoid the same mistake.

After visiting and interviewing several private preschools, we decided to enroll our daughter at Community Montessori School (CMS) in Fishers, IN. There are only two AMI accredited Montessori schools in the state of Indiana. CMS is located in Fishers, IN and the other AMI accredited Montessori school is located in Carmel, IN. CMS starts at age 18 months, whereas the one in Carmel starts at 3 years old. The CMS building is fairly new and was built specifically with the Montessori environment in mind. The classrooms all have tons of natural lighting and an open floor plan. All the Directress/Teachers have college or graduate degrees. Every Directress/Teacher at the school knew my daughter by name by the second day of school. I get daily reports via email on my kid, letting me know her days activities. The toddler classroom will help potty train as well. Every personnel at the school I've come across has been courteous and informative. The diversity of the staff is a definite plus. Exposure to diversity promotes curiosity, creativity, and encourages the search for novel information and perspectives - something we want our child exposed to early on. There is an entrance interview that CMS calls "an encounter" where the Directress spends approximately 30 min with your child in their respective classroom, observing them play with the particular "work" they chose and how they interact with their surroundings and other children in the class. I came to value a school with an entrance interview after I visited other preschools that didn't have one. The preschools that did not have an entrance interview take anyone and everyone as long as the parents have the means to pay the tuition. Preschool age children are sponges, quickly picking up social and behavioral cues from their peers and surroundings. The children at CMS, in general, seem to be more respectful of their surroundings and peers. I would attribute this to both the Montessori environment as well as the existence of an entrance interview. There have been multiple social activities throughout the year, hosted by CMS, that allow the parents an opportunity to mingle and meet other parents. There is a real community feel for the parents and students at CMS, which we value. Although we feel our daughter is in a safe, educational and nurturing environment at CMS, we are realistic about accidents that may happen from time to time. Having inspected her classroom, I know CMS does everything they can to keep the kids safe. However, children can still trip, stumble, or fall despite the safe environment. The child-to-teacher ratio is right in line with state mandate; in fact, in my child's classroom, the child-to-teacher ratio is better than state mandate. In terms of fundraising, I agree with the other reviewer who said "of course, any private school will have fundraising activities." This is true for all the private preschools we looked into as well. And come to think of it, this is true for all the schools my husband and I have attended as well (college, grad school, professional school). Giving is always optional. If you do give, it's a tax deductible contribution that is used to further create and sustain the Montessori environment and education for your child. For this reason, we were happy to contribute. I was not familiar with Montessori schools and methodology until I started researching preschools. Although my husband is a product of a Montessori preschool, I was not. It's one thing to read about Montessori online, but it's another to actually see and observe the classroom and environment for yourself. I'm glad I took the time to visit the various private preschools and observe the children in their respective classroom environments. CMS was the clear choice for us. My daughter has been at CMS for almost a year now. What I like most about CMS is that my child loves it; she is excited to go to school every day. As a parent, you can't really ask for more.

My child has had the same teacher for three years in a row. The elementary teacher has been there for several years, as has the toddler teacher. The three primary teachers have all worked there for three years or more. My child loves to go to school and is sad when something (illness etc) prevents attending that day. They use the Montessori methods that build long periods of concentration. At home, my child is now able to concentrate on one task for a very long time. I know that this is not true for all five year olds. There are so many positive developments that we have seen in our child. Every year, my child makes friends in the classroom that really mean a lot to her. Because there are frequent all-school events, we are able to meet other parents and children. There was just a fabulous fall hay-ride pitch-in. Since parents have required volunteer hours, there is a strong sense of community. This service is a great model for children. Involved parents are a great thing!
