I am an ambulatory wheelchair user, and I'm so horribly embarrassed and ashamed when bus drivers fight with me about securing my empty wheelchair. It folds up safely and stores with my caregiver, so people who can not get out of their wheelchairs can have the space. I'm trying to respect their disability. Passengers have shamed me, glared at me, and harassed me, all because they strapped my empty wheelchair when I've asked them not to. (They will even fight with me sometime and I either relent or get off cause I'm so mortified) It's so bad I have panic attacks every time it happens, now, and I never actually want to ride the buses I need to depend on to get around idk what to do tbh. I feel so embarrassed and ashamed of my disability as I deal with people regularly staring at me when I get out of my chair..... I've complained to them many times, and I hear it's policy. Yet you can fold and store walkers and strollers, but my EMPTY wheelchair has to be secured. It's honestly not different from a walker, IMO? I stopped sitting in my wheelchair on the bus because bus drivers were leaving other wheelchairs and strollers behind because of me. I can get up, I can walk short distances, and I do not need to sit in my chair on the bus so that other people can have that space. It all depends on what bus driver you have. Some of them respect my wishes; some of them flat-out don't, citing a policy I can't find on their website. EVEN THEN, they have a Reasonable Modification clause that allows them to modify policy if needed. I want them to see how this singles me out and makes me a target cause I have a disability different from the norm. I get enough from other people I don't need my transportation to make it worse, sometimes I'm flat out too scared to get on a bus because all this.... I just don't know what to do anymore, and I'm so fed up and discouraged. I can't tell you how many times I've complained and nothing happens, or I get conflicting stories. I'm just so tired; it shouldn't be this hard to have reliable transportation that respects my needs and those of other people with worse disabilities than mine, who need the space over me. We absolutely should not be strapping empty wheelchairs, and we absolutely should be strapping in strollers with children. Why is that not policy???? read more

From the staff to the executives, their people on the ground or in the driver's seat, no detail goes unappreciated from this writer. It was a delightful experience to contact our city's Día-A-Lift's kind and very helpful dispatcher to coordinate my new way of transportation. I have been a current client now for three months. These bus drivers are inconsiderate they show up late and make you miss your bus. Not only that there has been many occasions where the bus driver leaves people at the bus stop. One time bus route 60 tried to leave me twice it's stressful and they don't care you'll always be late and you will always miss a bus. read more

Intercity Transit is a public transportation service organized as a municipal corporation. It serves Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Yelm, Washington: an area of approximately 94 square miles (240 km2). It operates 24 bus routes, the Dial-A-Lift door-to-door service for people with disabilities, a vanpool program, and specialized van programs, and it is active in community partnerships. When considering Intercity transit you must consider the size of Olympia - 42,000, Lacey - 31,000, and Tumwater - 12,000 Then you have to acknowledge it is pretty amazing. There are more than 24 routes, most operate on every half hour. The cost is .75 a ride or 1.50 for an all day pass. The bus drivers will wait for you if you waive at them, they are never behind, and they are so much more friendly than "real" city systems. read more

Me and my husband went to Olympia yesterday to do shopping because we live in a small town so we don't really have options like they do in Olympia will we have a shopping wagon and we asked if it was fine to use we got told it is but then when we went to get on we got told we were not allowed to bring it on we said we can unload it to fold it will the drive got mad and said no it not allowed on because it has no breaks on it will we wait for another one and this drive allowed us to fold it and everything but as we where he started driving and hit his breaks so hard I almost fell and got hurt I end up hurting my hip because of how hard he was hitting the brakes will another person got on with the same wagon but deferent brand and she was black will he didn't have her fold it up or anything we are disabled so we looked at each other and knew it had something to do with our kind witch is a disgrace and even in crochet we are very hurt because we get free ride the Olympia with our bus systems where we live so we got a card for Costco but now we won't be going back after all this happened we are very hurt and disappointed we never had a problem before but now we are never aging will we take the bus here read more

FAIL. I commute to Seattle for work and my job gave me an ORCA pass which was awesome, until Intercity Transit discontinued it saying that they don't have the ability to install the ORCA readers. This is BS. What they mean is that they don't want to share profits with ORCA, so they create their own pass for $75/mo which is hardly a good deal. You'd be better off paying per ride. For the month I did ride the Oly Express, I found disgusting busses full of smelly people, rude bus drivers, and few runs. I mean really, considering how crowded buses are (standing room only), you think that maybe they would add a few more runs to the route during peak commuting times? Sadly the answer is no, and so I can't justify shelling out $75 a month for crappy service. I just go to DuPont or Lakewood to catch the Seattle Express. read more

Today, around 11am a 12 or 13 root bus blatantly ran a red light. I had the left turn signal and this bus went from stopped at the red light right through and cut me off. I don't ride the bus, but those of you who would do. Can you trust you'll be safe if drivers run red lights, stop abruptly and drive aggressively? I beg to differ, yelpers. Bus service ends at 8:30 on some routes. No transfers. INCREDIBLY rude busdrivers who do things like leave early, refuse to answer questions, yell at people for listening to their headphones too loud (seriously), and pull away before letting everyone on. I've taken public transit in many cities and I've seen the things that busdrivers have to put up with. I have yet to see anyone masturbate, urinate, fight, take drugs, board the bus without clothing, or engage in horrific public grooming on an Intercity Transit bus. All of these things can be easily witnessed any day of the week in any major city. What I'm sayin' is, you got it easy, guys. There is, however, one angelic middle-aged busdriver with long curly pale blonde hair who is a delight. read more

My bus didnt show up today so when the next route, which doesnt go the way I needed to go, came by I let them know that it never came. The driver called it in and informed me that there was a bus malfunction and to wait a few more minutes and one of the managers would come get me personally and take me to where I needed to go. I was a half an hour late to work but the manager showed up and took me and was very nice and apologetic. Great customer service! Thanks IT! read more

Rated last year as the Best Medium Transit System in the country it's pretty amazing for a what is actually a small system that carries more people than many systems twice it's size (thus the 'medium' size designation). Of course you have to know the Olympia area. It also includes three colleges and it's the Capitol of Washington State, so there's a good level of clustered employment sites that contributes to a having a successful transit provider. Olympia still has a long way to go in allowing better land use though, especially in the downtown area for residential housing. read more

This is specific to Dial-A-Lift. The regular route service is A+++. It would be nice if they bothered to employ considerate and respectful folks with Dial-A-Lift. I was told by some fellow disabled riders to stay away from Dial-A-Lift as much as possible since they seldom will schedule you a ride that is reasonable, and more often than not, they are completely rude and unhelpful. I had to try it for myself, and while I did get three really good rides scheduled and the drivers are ALWAYS terrific, the six times I was treated rudely by the scheduler caused me to give up. The sad part is, I needed this service to preserve my ability to remain mobile. Now, I am sorry to say I look forward to becoming immobile sooner just so I can rely upon a scooter instead of cold, rude schedulers who treat me like the dirt on the bottom of their shoe. Horribly shameful that this is the other side of such a wonderful bus system. read more
