    Cockatoo with bald spots
    Anne M.

I stopped and visited International Aquarium for the first time this week, after driving by many, many times. I was surprised to see that they sell dogs, as most people avoid buying dogs in pet stores to avoid supporting the puppy mill industry - there was a fancy dog in a small, padlocked exercise pen with a cover, which, while clean, was not a lot of space for the dog to turn around and move. The dog was trying desperately to get out. They had a lot of supplies, fish tanks, and very large bird cages for sale. There was a cage with two Cockatoos in the middle of the store - one of the Cockatoos had badly self-mutilated himself, and chewed off most of his feathers, exposing large bald patches of skin. He looked at me through the bars, chewing his feathers. Whether he was bored, has a hormonal condition, or is ill, I don't know (these are common causes of feather chewing). The Cockatoos could have toys and a couple additional perches which might give them something to do, rather than bite their own feathers. They had a lot of birds for sale, including pigeons, which made me really sad. There's a huge homeless bird population in the SF Bay Area, and MickaBoo (companion birds) and MickaCoo (pigeons and doves) are two great rescue organizations that end up rescuing a lot of birds that end up in the animal shelters. Please don't buy birds or dogs (or hamsters) from this pet store - there are so many fantastic rescue groups all over the Bay Area where you can adopt and you will truly save a life.

And this is a better tank than most there

I left this place heartbroken and on the verge of tears from the despicable living conditions that the fish are kept. How can this not be illegal? Sick, dying and dead fish all over. Multiple fish dying slowly from ick, swim bladder and flesh eating diseases. I went looking for new tank mates for my fancy goldfish. A fish that has such a puppy like personality and that can live well over 10 years. I found them, many of them but they were lifeless. As I was in shock looking at the sick fish while passing every tank a man that works there came. Y with a bucket and net. He was going from tank to tank scooping out the dead fish...well most of them cause he still left some in. Unbelievable!! PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT ANYONE THAT TREATS ANIMALS LIKE THIS!

Overall bad service unless you wanna buy something then the people will be super nice obviously because they want your money badly. Personally I have bought flowerhorns from here and they definitely live up to the price. The size of the head growth is absolutely amazing. I've bought flowerhorns from other people that tranship from Thailand but the flowerhorns that come from here have way bigger heads so overall 3/5 just because of the horrible service.

Great fancy goldfish selection. Also, I bought some healthy angelfish and clown loaches and an albino Cory. Prices are average.

It's located in a warehouse in West Oakland, and if you look up at the ceiling, there is insulation hanging out everywhere. There were random buckets of water scattered throughout the ground, and this was honestly probably the dirtiest fish store we've walked into and we've now been to four or five in the Bay Area between El Cerrito and Hayward. We brought our young child with us and were really nervous to even let her walk around given all the water on the ground. But we gave the store the benefit of the doubt and wanted to support a small business so we picked out a few different things. A few days after bringing home two Kuhli loaches, one of them died. A few days later the other one also died. Called to express our concern and unfortunately the person working could not offer any solution, store credit, or refund and simply said once an animal is out the bag it's no longer their problem. Would not recommend, there a way better fish stores in the Bay Area that are clean, take care of their stock and provide much better customer service.

You found the BEST one, I promise…read more Since this review will be long, thought I would emphasize on the point of my review from the beginning... instead of making you read through everything. Many businesses will help you buy a new tank... but have you ever tried to get rid of one? Not just any old fish tank but a giant one, where you could probably teach your kid to swim in it... We are talking about 400-gallon fish tank that was built way too DIY, extremely heavy, filled with livestock, ton of sand and rocks. If you are not into fish, this is easily 4,000 lbs... with many surprise attacks from the DIY "Offense Team". You really want someone who knows what they are doing... unless you want a mini flood of saltwater in your living room.. I contacted MANY businesses including junk removal but wasn't satisfied due to poor communications, lack of planning/professionalism. Thankfully, I read about Ocean Treasures Servicing on social media and did my research/stalking via FB, IG, and... reef forums and found only great things. The owner himself, Daniel, came down all the way from SF for a in person consultation then emailed me a meticulous thought-out plan on step by step of removing the giant tank. The Game Day - Daniel came with 3 team members + 1 cargo van + 1 U-Haul (this thing was huge..) Everyone from the team treated the house like their own, laid out floor protectant all over, swept every bit of sand before attempting to move any heavy items (a little sand that gets dragged can make quiet an impression on your floor), safely caught all the living creatures (all alive :D), and finished the job as if they literally CTRL+X the whole thing out of the house. Ocean Treasures Servicing is simply AMAZING. You would think after all the trouble of getting rid of a tank, I would be done... but NOPE! Since I found the best team I can trust, I am in the process of building a replacement one that is professional made by Daniel and his team...... No more DIY, unleveled, loud sounds, and random cuts from DIY stuff.... Don't Do it yourself, it's not worth it.. Trust Daniel and Ocean Treasures Servicing and just enjoy the hobby.
