ABSOLUTELY GREAT LFS! Professionality: The owner is knowledgeable in saltwater reefing, taught me everything and recommended just the perfect setting for me. When I upgraded from a 10G Nano, he recommended this 25G Lagoon and I LOVE IT! He also helped designing the aquascape which I add my own thoughts later and the final result is JUST STUNNING! (Ignore the frags, I'm still designing where to put each, and they are closed up because the light is dimmed to "sunset" now) When I went through the diatoms explosion and algae outbreak, he quickly pointed the mistakes in my lighting setting and fixed them, now I have crystal clear water. High quality products: The rocks he sold developed coralline algaes in two weeks. The blue tang is so lively and healthy as well as all the snails. Corals and nems are in great color and condition and not as pricey as other large facilities. Customer service: The owner is always willing to help, patiently explaining every question I have. Although I'm new to this hobby, I've been to no less than 10 stores and this is the among the best. Now I come here every week at lease buy several items and keep myself updated with what's new in the store. I feel so lucky to have this store on my way to saltwater reefing!

The shop's IM 50 INT. One of my favorite tanks of all time.

High Tide Aquatics has been very good to me. I set up a little 7.5 gallon tank over a year ago. I've had reef tanks before, so I'm not a beginner. I've gotten nearly every living thing in my tank from High Tide. Their selection of corals is very very good. I'm consistently impressed with the nice pieces there. I come in every month or so because I buy RO and saltwater there and I don't see the same things over and over. There's always a nice turnover of new things coming through. Kenny can often hook you up if you're looking for something in particular. He's very knowledgeable and helpful. Very strong recommend. It's a great local specialty store. We're lucky to have it in Oakland.

The very next day ALL the leafs of that specific species fell off! The other plants were fine , I then called Saturday the very next day to ask about either an exchange or a refund and I spoke to a representative named Mike whose immediate response was "no! there's something wrong with your tank" / "all sales are final" Mike offered no help or tips or nothing just simply blame my tank, which already has shrimp and fish and other vegetation that is doing just fine........ Definitely do not recommend buying from here unless you know for a fact, if something doesn't work out, you're screwed no refunds, exchanges, or any help. Bad bad business practice

They take the time to answer questions and make sure you're making the right decisions for your tank instead of just trying to sell you something. One thing that really sets them apart is the products they carry. They have items on hand that you don't typically see at other stores--for example, I was able to find a roller mat gearbox repair kit there, which is something most places don't even stock. That kind of attention to what reefers actually need goes a long way. Their coral selection is also on another level. They consistently have more unique pieces than just about anywhere else I've seen, which makes it a great place to find something different and add real character to your tank. One thing I really appreciate is that the owners are always there and involved. You can tell they genuinely care about the store, the livestock, and making sure customers have a good experience. Overall, it's a very well-run store with a strong mix of knowledge, customer service, and unique inventory. Definitely a go-to spot if you're looking for both hard-to-find equipment and standout corals.

That alone already sets them apart from a lot of other places. What really makes the difference is the level of knowledge and the way they approach helping customers. Instead of just trying to make a quick sale, they actually take the time to understand your setup and what you're trying to achieve. The advice feels genuine and experience-based, which is huge in a hobby where the wrong guidance can cost you time and money. Their selection of corals and fish is solid, and everything consistently looks like it's been handled with care. On top of that, their prices are very competitive--honestly better than most other places I've come across--which makes it even easier to keep coming back. It's clear they take pride in what they do, and that shows in both the quality of the store and the overall experience. Whether you're new to reefing or have an established tank, this is a place you can rely on for both livestock and guidance. Definitely a strong option if you're looking for a dependable and knowledgeable shop.

It's located in a warehouse in West Oakland, and if you look up at the ceiling, there is insulation hanging out everywhere. There were random buckets of water scattered throughout the ground, and this was honestly probably the dirtiest fish store we've walked into and we've now been to four or five in the Bay Area between El Cerrito and Hayward. We brought our young child with us and were really nervous to even let her walk around given all the water on the ground. But we gave the store the benefit of the doubt and wanted to support a small business so we picked out a few different things. A few days after bringing home two Kuhli loaches, one of them died. A few days later the other one also died. Called to express our concern and unfortunately the person working could not offer any solution, store credit, or refund and simply said once an animal is out the bag it's no longer their problem. Would not recommend, there a way better fish stores in the Bay Area that are clean, take care of their stock and provide much better customer service.
