My first experience with Dr. Malek was good. He was amazing--almost over the top--but I was relieved to get a pain management doctor. Over time, I have had two shots from him, and they did help me. However, every appointment I made had to be rescheduled, sometimes several weeks later. I had a follow-up appointment after my last shot, which was supposed to be two weeks after, but was scheduled four weeks after. A day before, I was called and informed that he had to cancel my appointment and couldn't see me for another month. Well, my friends, I complained. I didn't go nuclear; simply told them I was concerned about all the cancellations. The office called me back and gave me an appointment immediately. When I arrived, he called the office staff into the room, rambled on about how great he is, and then informed me that he would no longer treat me. He said it was because I had restless legs syndrome, and that "I would fall off, break my hip, and he would have to go to jail." At that point, I was stunned by his behavior. Later, I realized he displayed narcissistic behaviors--love bombing in the first appointment, unable to tolerate any criticism, and blaming me. Not saying he is a narcissist--I can't make that diagnosis, but he is not right. I'm sad that it turned out that way. read more

They lack empathy, knowing these patients are suffering. My grandmother attended recently by default of insurance, and i must let it be known this terrible person of a doctor made her CRY. This man is not doctor material. Straight EVIL. He tried pushing his hospice care onto my grand mother without even considering other options, and not to mention after she denied multiple tries, be treated her horribly. Not to mention, he made an medical assistant push drugs through an IV . This man does not deserve his license!!! He does NOT care the well/ mental being of these patients. Dr. Malek posts in his website that he accepts Medicare and Blue Shield PPO. I was told today that he no longer accepts Blue Shield PPO because they weren't paying. That is so far from the truth. I can see any doctor I want and all is paid. This is about greed plain and simple. I wouldn't waste my time seeing a doctor who's primary concern is about how much money they can squeeze out of you. I will return to Cedars-Sinai where my insurance is gladly accepted and they have much more professional doctors and staff. Don't waste your time here. read more

I feel so fortunate to have found this doctor! Dr Malek is at the forefront of this wonderful emerging treatment called Ketamine Infusion Therapy, so for treating my depression, anxiety, and cognitive issues I cannot recommend him more highly. I've tried nearly every antidepressant over a 20 year period, I was taking enormous as mounts of pain medication, and it still wasn't enough. After a few months of Ketamine Infusions, I was able to quit three psych meds and pain meds too. Dr Malek helped better then other doctors. I would advise that you heed this warning about this office. What I experienced, no one should be treated in this manner and the physician claims to care about his patient's. So, I was referred to this physician by my attorney and when I first spoke with the physician his main focus was to perform a procedure without an MRI etc... and once I expressed my concerns, it came down to "you don't trust me.." I respect the medical professionals and what they do for the community, but it is critical to see what is going on inside first before injecting a patient because "you've seen this many times." I am an individual, period. 2nd issue... the physician's staff in the office is very unprofessional. I maintained my respect when they lost it. I wasn't going to scream over the phone like his wife did and be disrespectful to his receptionist as she was to me. This doctor's office charges approximately $40 to complete the disability forms by the way....and I was initially told that there wasn't a cost and once I inquired about that the wife of the physician screamed soooo loud in my ear...I just couldn't believe it. 3rd issue...the physician decided on the day that my work status note expired that he was no longer going to treat patients with denied work comp cases. I was at a dead end because I am still very much in pain and needed to provide an updated work status note to my management team and he refused to keep the appointment. I then offered to pay out of pocket for the visit because again, I am still in pain and unable to work. His office agreed and quoted a price of $200 for the visit, but never called me....I had my son drive me to the hospital and I cried the entire time because the pain was soooo bad....but I had to save my job and again my pain level is still at a level 10. I was told that he treated denied work comp claims when I had my first appointment, but he left me in the cold when his chips started falling. I'll never forget how the nurses at the hospital rushed me back and tried to give me pain medication, but it just didn't work...they cared more than he did. I know a lot of people are pretending to be hurt and work comp is a sticky situation because I used to handle work comp claims, but some of us are really in pain and shouldn't be subjected to this..it was unreal. So, inclusion if you are interested in receiving great care and being treated with respect...pass this office up. If you are suffering from pain don't add anymore by dealing with irrational people that are very mean spirited...you are already in enough pain..don't add to it. Be well. read more

Most Dr.'s just want to slam a needle in you, but Dr. Malek actually gave instructions on how I can help myself by his instructional advice. I listened and helped make my shot after 6 weeks of therapy more effective. I relocated back to California from Arizona and while there I had encountered some medical issues along with my already standing chronic pain as a result of 3 back surgeries. My general doctor in Arizona put me on a series of narcotics which I have and have been on for the past 3 years. As all of pain sufferers know taking opioids for years is not something you can stop doing overnight. I have significantly come down with my pain medication because 1 of all the laws in place now and 2 have always had the plan to get off them completely. I have researched having the pain pump implanted and really wanted to get into the trial to see if it is the right Avenue for me. Dr. Malek sat and listened to my story and studied my latest MRI. I have stenosis in my back which I've been told, actually yesterday by a spine doctor, that I'm possibly facing another back surgery. That scares the hell out of me because my first experience was a negative one. My first appointment I thought went ok after a series of shots and injections. I went to a second appointment and again another set of injections and prescriptions for different medications. After that appointment out of the blue I receive a phone call from the office that I'm being "discharged" with no explanation. I'm very upset because I was seeing another pain management doctor, prior to Dr. Malek, whom I felt wasn't giving me the personal attention that I felt I deserved but just kept writing me scripts for my pain medication. Now I'm stuck with no pain management doctor, because I can't go back to the one I was seeing, and medication(gabapentin and such) that I couldn't get refills on down the road. Dr. Malek did write my pain medicine prescription for me but after I get them filled I don't have another doctor to either continue weening me off or go another direction. I'm very upset and frankly pissed off that Dr. Malek couldn't discuss this with me personally and basically gave up on me. Dr. Malek is the type of doctor that genuinely cares about his patients. My mom is an elderly women who suffers from degenerative arthritis. She is in constant pain. Dr. Malek does his best to try many different types of therapy to help control her pain. Other doctors that we have been to only prescribed drugs for her and didn't take the time to get to the root of her pain. Dr. Malek tries alternative things so that she doesn't depend on those drugs. He also takes the time to sit and get to know his patients. He lets my mom tell her stories and never cuts her off or acts annoyed. Those people are awesome from Dr. Malek to the rest. My mom has a serious pain and mobility issue with her hip. Apparently there was a lot of bad fluid build up that no orthopedic doctor brought to our attention even after taking several x-rays at different points in time. Dr. Malek extracted a lot of fluid from there and gave her a few shots. She still has a long way to go and will probably need another hip replacement but his procedure made a notable improvement in her stride and pain. Apparently we'll have to repeat this every once in a while.
