    Hush puppies, yummy!
    Russell W.

Service was great. The hush puppies were spot on 10 out of 10, who knew they'd be good with cinnamon sweet butter!?? The seafood enchiladas were good 7 out of 10. Enchiladas verde was an 8 out of 10.

We're tourists from San Antonio and had just driven into Port Isabel. Saw the positive reviews and decided to try since they have a variety of choices. The restaurant was clean and the staff was attentive. The price point was also good as we get into SPI and the prices go up! The food was excellent. My sons LOVED their food; the birria tacos and seafood enchiladas. The sauce on the enchiladas was really good and the birria tacos and broth were amazing. My husband and I had the fish and shrimp which was also very good. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Took my parents in tonight for dinner. The experience was phenomenal again. I didn't take any photos tonight but that's okay. Everything was fantastic. I had the Enchiladas Verde. Which are chicken enchiladas with a green sauce. They are not spicy, but are delicious. I'm most impressed with the fact the chicken was juicy and had loads of flavor. Seriously this chicken was noteworthy. It's not common to find moist, delicious shredded chicken. The rice and beans are good, especially if you mix them together as God intended. I may have helped my dad with his Mexican plate. It was as I remembered it (delicious). This place makes my mouth happy. They have a few parking spots in the rear, don't forget them. My mom had honey-chipotle shrimp tacos. They looked amazing and she didn't offer to share so they must have been as tasty as they looked. I think into the blue might be the next hidden gem of Port Isabel. If you haven't tried it, you should.

Shrimp with cream cheese a tiny slice of jalapeño and wrapped with bacon. Served with two sides of your own choice; I chose rice & fries.

Small place but a very great one nonetheless. I am a very picky eater and this place got to satisfy my taste buds so well. They have a pretty extensive menu. I love it when restaurants have the complimentary tostadas with salsa. My picky self was a little not too happy with the watery salsa but the taste was great, I'd just recommend it to be less watery. The chairs are super comfy, the kind to not leave a mark on your legs ladies, which is important to eat at your own pace & not make you feel rushed. I saw some tables have this cloth-like sheet on the table which I really came to appreciate given the fact that the drinks get very sweaty & tables tend to get sticky and all, so this made it enjoyable to have my arms on the table. Very clean restroom too (two stalls only). I got the Shrimp with cream cheese, a tiny jalapeño slice inside, and wrapped with bacon (8). This plate comes with 2 sides to which I chose fries and rice. My picky self absolutely loved the dish. I like my fries fresh and crispy but not burnt and that's exactly how they were! Rice was so good too, super yummy. And the bacon wrapped shrimp were exquisite. My fountain drink was a fanta orange and lemme tell you, it tasted great. Not all fountain drinks taste well, this one surely did. The waitress was very attentive and friendly (she wore her mask). She'd come often to attend us despite having multiple tables to attend. I would recommend this place, it gave me a good first impression. I'd give this place 5 stars but I'd have to come again and see if the quality of food & customer service is as good as today and it wasn't just luck. Sorry for the bad quality pic, I was so hungry!

Fresh chipotle gulf shrimp with charro bean soup and handmade onion rings - part of the $13.99 all you can eat shrimp special

Full disclosure - I am NOT affiliated in any way with this restaurant or the owners. Today was the very first time I entered this establishment. But let me assure you, it won't be the last. Heck - my wife and I may return tomorrow. Yes - we LOVED this restaurant. Why? Several reasons. First the owner (Hector) and his wife are the chefs. And everything is FRESH. Nothing out of a Sysco Foodservice Bag. The spectacular salsa - both the red and the green - is made FRESH every day. He sat it down in front of us - with two types of FRESH tostado chips - yellow corn and white corn. Who does that - two different chips for you to try? We devoured them both but the yellow chips were our favorite. And the green salsa was crafted with layer upon layer of flavor. Now on to the entrees. I had the $13.99 all you can eat shrimp. I tried three versions - the chipotle version, the blackened version and the "Hector's Shrimp Cookoff Special" that's not on the menu. All were outstanding, but the secret spiced shrimp that Hector brought out were over the top TERRIFIC. He wouldn't tell us what it contained, but it was a complex melange of flavors that is truly unique. I have eaten grilled shrimp literally all over the world, and this may be the BEST grilled shrimp I have ever eaten when served "Hector Style". If you like shrimp, then you'll be doing yourself a real favor to ask Hector for his off the menu special. My wife tasted the sauce and told me she was tempted to lick the plate. Yes - it really is THAT good. Are you looking for a family run restaurant that has not been discovered (yet)? Are you looking for FRESH and unique dishes? Are you looking for something new that has not been overrun with long lines? Then this is your place. Fresh, authentic, unique and pretty darn impressive and inexpensive. Most HIGHLY recommended!

Fried fish and shrimp ceviche and shrimp taco is the the bomb!

Food here was excellent! Not a single bad bite and we got a little bit of everything. I don't usually say that tea is good in a place but it was so good. I would recommend this to anyone. It's a golden place that deserves to packed full all day every day. Make sure to order the churros they are amazing!! Go here for good food!

Horrrrriiiibbbllleeee!!!! I stopped at this place to try the all you can eat fish and shrimp and was extremely disappointed. No season on the food, it took sooooo long to get the food and it was really poor quality. We told the manager but nothing. This is a place for people who had a little to much to drink and don't care what they eat. I say avoid at all cost...

A local hidden gem this place is for sure. What the place lacks in ambiance is made in spades with fabulous food. The shrimp and fish are perfectly prepared and reasonably priced. Great value. If good tasting food and service are imperatives, this IS the place! I'm looking forward to returning!

    Shrimp ceviche and hush puppies.

The food here is so delicious. All you can eat fish and shrimp was so worth it. Hector the chef was most attentive, helpful, and accommodating to myself when I couldn't handle spicy dishes. The flan was SO good as well! And don't forget to try the hush puppies and shrimp ceviche!

I am on my phone watching Facebook reels. She started to talk loudly to them about things she was not happy about and got louder and louder and got more and more descriptive of things she was not happy about. She spoke Spanish to them and I think she assumed I did not understand Spanish. It got to the point that I felt embarrassed for the employees and I raised the volume on my phone so that I did not have to hear what was being said. It did not work! That made me very upset and I began to get a tight knot in my stomach. She was very loud and talked to them in a very condescending and mean manner. I lost my appetite!!! I could only take so much. I got up from my chair, walked over, interrupted the meeting to motion my waiter to me and told him to please cancel my order because I did not like what was happening in front of customers. I said it was not right. And, I made sure to look at her when I said that. I also said I will never return and walked out. I feel sorry for the employees. I really hope she did not take it out on them. But, I had to say something. This happened exactly as I have written it. The woman did not respond to me in any way. I think she was shocked.

From the sheer size of the breakfast burritos to the flavors, everything is fantastic and beyond what we ever could've hoped for stopping by here. The parking situation is not great as there's not many spots around the side, but figure out how to get in here if you can. The staff is extremely friendly and the interior is clean. We ordered a sausage and cheese burrito; chorizo, egg, and cheese burrito; and a cheese quesadilla. Every single thing was out of this world. We could write again how great the breakfast burritos are, but we recommend you just go and try it. By far one of the best hidden gems we have found in the state of Texas. Make the trip, it's worth it.

Trying new places in the area around SPI - 2 of 2…read more I haven't been to SPI and the Rio Grande Valley that often, but I've eaten at several of the casual eateries on the island and in Port Isabel. If wanting a reasonably priced and filling Mexican breakfast, it used to be Isabel's and Manuel's. Isabel's was much to my liking but I wanted to try somewhere new. Manuel's closed and it has supposedly reopened somewhere else. I'm not going to ask, "Mexiquito ... where have you been all my life?" I thought it was new(er), but was assured it had been there a long time. I didn't make it in for breakfast, but I did make it in for lunch. Inside, it is very different from Isabel's, where they have plainer walls, a lower ceiling, and fluorescent lighting. Mexiquito has the darker woodwork, the green and red colors found on the flag of Mexico, and dimmer illumination that some Mexican locales have. Mexiquito is right on the main drag, so I've obviously driven past it on previous visits to the area. I had one of the combination platters with rice and refried beans. I asked for chicken as the filling for my items inside tortillas. Remember that, if you don't specify the filling, it may default to ground beef. The platter was plentiful and it was fairly tasty. They also bring on the chips and salsa. I had a cup of coffee and a glass of ice water. It's good that I asked for the ice water. Normally, it's to cool down from the coffee. Here, they only feature one type of salsa and it was too hot for my taste. Another reviewer mentions it, so I think I'm on track. I was not going to go with 5 stars to begin with, but only offering that one type of salsa with that much kick doesn't make me a fan. Dial it down a little to something more "middle of the road." Otherwise, if you like spicier salsa, Mexiquito is a reliable eatery with friendly personnel and fair prices.
