    Ceviche Ceviche in SPI.

I ordered the Original ceviche. It was super light, refreshing, flavorful, and tummy. One order is enough for two people. Definitely something to enjoy on the beach with some cold drinks.

Open at 1030am. Must stop on our beach days. Go to order is the classic with shrimp, add mango and a jalapeño.

By far, the best ceviche on SPI, and all of South Texas for that matter! A hidden gem on the main drag in SPI... we talked to several "winter Texans" who had no idea it was there! They do now! We stopped by a couple of times during a recent SPI trip ... super fresh ingredients, ample portions, very reasonable cost. They can add as much heat as you want, jalapeño to scotch bonnet! Very tasty sauces too, we like the creamy jalapeño the best. Open most days... do yourself a favor, stop by! Highly recommend!

I'm from San Antonio and visit South Padre every summer and let me tell you, Ceviche Ceviche is a non-negotiable stop every time. It's so good that whoever I bring with me ends up becoming a fan, even if I have to drag them there the first time! This place is fast, fresh, and local, everything you want in a beach-town bite. The service is always friendly and top tier, no matter how busy they are. The portions are super generous, and the prices are more than fair for the quality you get. Whether you're building your own bowl or going with one of their combos, it's hard to go wrong. Everything is flavorful, light, and perfect for a hot day on the island. They also have a sister suite, it's Poke bowl that connects the two sides for anyone wanting seafood but something different. I genuinely look forward to coming here every trip. Ceviche Ceviche is an SPI gem that never disappoints!

Kind of a hole in the wall but amazing ceviche, make sure you get the homemade chips to go with your ceviche. It's a walk up to order restaurant, and they do have a small area to dine in, but we were staying over near the beach so we got it to go. They made our orders right then while we waiting, and answered all our questions. I would love for them to open one up in San Antonio. Thanks Y'all.

Mahi and shrimp device, with cucumber, pineapple, and mango. So good. Highly recommend .

Fresh made ceviche, make your own options. Two of us shared the original, with Mahi and shrimp, adding mango, pineapple and cucumber. It was so good. Highly recommended.

Imagine Chipotle meets Ceviche. Fully customized ceviche where you get to pick the ingredients! I went with mahi mahi, shrimp, jicama, cantaloupe, cilantro, and mango. Accented by lime juice and salt and pepper, the meal was refreshing and tasty.

This place is busy but so worth the wait!! I ordered fish & shrimp mixed classic! Still as good as it was a decade ago.

We've been coming here the past few years for THE best ceviche on the island! It's always SUPER fresh and staff are always friendly! We usually grab to-go so that we can enjoy it on the beach! This is a must go to!

This was so delicious. I believe I actually lifted the bowl and drank the liquid at the end.

A bit late on my review, we actually were there on February 15, 2025. I was not able to decide what I wanted for my wife and I and our two friends, so I made the decision to purchase the classic and the Islander. From the outside the business looks a tad rundown. Went inside it also looks a little bit worn. BUT, then everything changes when you talk to the staff. They are extremely knowledgeable, with a degree of comfort and teaching new people about this wonderful thing called ceviche. The young lady who took care of me, did not rush anything at all, and was willing to explain every part of the process and all of the different nuances available from their menu. When I was finally able to make my decision, she crafted one of the most beautiful things I think I've ever seen. Everything was super fresh, where she even had to chop up a few different items fresh from the refrigerator so that it could be crisp and wonderful and my dish. I don't know when we will get back to South Padre Island again, but you can bet your lucky stars. I'll probably be in there about every other day. The food was fabulous and the staff was tremendous. I agree with a couple previous postings, take a little bit of time and invest in the aesthetic and the outside view and you'll probably be more busy than you could ever imagine. But then again, do I really want you so busy that I have to wait forever to get this beautiful product... Things that make you think!

It was so good. Tostada chips sold separately. I think the girl shoving the tip jar at me left a bad taste. Otherwise, great ceviche.

This place has the best ceviche I've ever had. Lots of options to have them mix up a custom blend for you but they also have a list of favorites. Extremely reasonably priced given the quality. The tigers blood had cilantro, serrano peppers, and mango to go along with the fish/shrimp. Great combination of flavors! The islander was also very good. A fruity ceviche. The traditional was also a thumbs up.

Love this spot! Such fresh food. Whenever we hit the island, we get a meal here-serves us for both lunch and dinner . Service is so friendly and accommodating, too.

Fish, shrimp, mango, cucumber, cantaloupe, and jicama called the islander mix - so good!!!

Great ceviche. You get a very large portion and it's not expensive at all. I like that they made it to order. Will eat again.

Will you be open Sunday 24th (Christmas Eve day?). We are traveling from Galveston and would love to try the ceviche. If so, what hours and when do you recommend getting there?

Would you want to work on Sunday, Christmas Eve? Don't count on it.

What are the actual hours, we have attempted to eat here a couple times but it's been closed during stated business hours :-(?

10:30am - till we sell out. We recommend you cone early or call in your order and we will save you some Ceviche. Sorry about the trouble.

The shrimp are perfectly cooked--tender, plump, and buttery--so fresh they practically melt with each bite. The garlic-infused sauce is rich without being heavy, coating the pasta in a silky finish that brings everything together beautifully. But what truly elevates this dish are the tomatoes. They are delightfully sweet, bright, and bursting with flavor, adding a fresh, vibrant contrast to the savory scampi. Every forkful strikes that perfect balance of citrusy zest, garlic warmth, and natural sweetness. The Grouchy Gringo may have a playful name, but there's nothing grouchy about this plate. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and already plan your next visit before you've even finished. Absolutely five-star worthy.

On our first visit, we were enthusiastically welcomed for lunch. The dining area is to the right side of the main entrance. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. He stayed a bit at our table to tell us a little bit about the restaurant. The menu you is very fun to read. For lunch, I ordered a cup of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. The "cup" was large enough to share although I really didn't want to share it. I can't imagine how large a bowl of gumbo will be. I love good gumbo and this was very tasty. A slice of garlic bread is included with the gumbo. Delicious! I also ordered the "fried yardbird" sandwich which is a batter-fried chicken sandwich with crispy lettuce and a large tomato. French fries are included with the sandwiches. My husband purchased the "Friday Special" which was a flounder, nicely breaded and fried and a side of the french fries. We returned on Sunday for breakfast. This Sunday happened to be a cold windy day, and we were the first customers to arrive - definitely grouchy gringos due to the cold and the wind. We had a different waiter this time, and he was so friendly and greeted us warmly. He changed the ambiant music that was playing to a nice selection of soft "blues" which happens to be our favorite music. We both ordered Polly's Biscuits and Andouille Sausage gravy. Polly's Biscuits and Gravy includes two small, but very flaky biscuits and a generous portion of gravy. We also ordered scrambled eggs as an add-on. We were pleased with this selection for breakfast. By the time we left the restaurant, we were pleased to see many other people arriving for breakfast. The Grouchy Gringo is a very large venue, so I hope that it will become a very popular location in SPI because it is definitely a "keeper." It will be awhile before we return to the island, but we will definitely return to The Grouchy Gringo.

Nacho trio, $15.99 -- the salsa was fine, the guac was really good, but the queso was a 1-star. This is one of those places that doesn't know how to do queso but puts it on the menu anyway. More like just melted Velveeta. Beyond the food being mediocre at best, we had a few service issues. My order came out wrong, I asked for cheese and got beef enchiladas. I'd also ordered a drink that never came; when the server finally made another round, I asked about it so she finally put it in. Service was pretty slow and a few things came out wrong, but we were hungry and it was so busy that we didn't really bother making a fuss. In general it's probably okay food for the island, but I would not return.
