We went to Mahi Nic's on a rainy day. All seating is outside, most is under a tent, while others are only under umbrellas. We did have to wait a few minutes to be seated, and weren't sure why we weren't given menus. But we saw signs indicating to order at the back counter. We went to the counter, took a menu and came back to our party to decide what we would order. You place your order, give your table number and they bring your food. The food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, but it was warm and delicious. My husband got the blacked mahi sandwich, I got the Iron Skillet Shrimp (pictured) and a Turbo Pelican Colada. Everything was delicious! The iron skillet came with 8 huge shrimp and I opted for garlic butter, which gave a dipping sauce. The fries were HUGE! Our kids loved the fries, burger and hot dogs that they ordered. The drink I ordered was strong and tasty, the toasted coconut was the icing on the cake. The drink came with a beautiful drink decoration, which my kids found cool to play with. We would visit again and plan on it. read more

We had another fantastic experience at Mahi Nic! The food is consistently delicious, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is always friendly, attentive, and welcoming. It has become one of our favorite places to eat on South Padre Island. One of my favorite things is how genuinely pet-friendly they are. They even have a dog menu, so our dachshund, PeeWee, gets to enjoy lunch with us too. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that truly welcomes the whole family, including four-legged family members. After watching the KRGV Take 5 segment, I loved learning that the new owners were the cooks before taking over the restaurant. You can absolutely tell they know what they're doing. The quality of the food, the consistency, and the atmosphere have all been elevated under the new ownership while still keeping the laid-back island vibe. My girlfriend and I stopped by Mahi Nic during our South Padre trip and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The location is fantastic, with great views overlooking the docks and water. Unfortunately, we found the food a bit underwhelming compared to some of the other restaurants we visited during our stay. We ordered the mahi tacos, and while the sauce was nice, the tacos came out somewhat cold. They weren't bad, but they just didn't leave much of an impression. The service was alright as well. We arrived about 10 minutes after opening and ended up standing around for a bit before someone came over to take our order. Overall, we loved the ambiance and location, but the food and service didn't quite measure up to some of the other spots we tried in South Padre. read more

10/10 our hotel room wasn't ready and we had our pups with us so we headed over to mahi nics! When people say don't judge a book by its cover... this is what they mean haha not the most appealing driving by but the service and food were both TOP TIER! One of the best places for lunch on South Padre Island. We were amazed at their mega huge hand cut fries. They give like a potato and a half and each fry is about 1/4 a potato. Generous serving of mahi for their sandwich but not so much for their tacos. So if u r hungry go for the mahi sandwich. Free refills for their kids drinks. Several different flavors of lemonade. The cole slaw is creamy and on the sweeter side which I really really liked. The margs are good, recommend frozen over on the rocks. First, check the hours as they are a bit strange - they close at 6;30 most nights. That said, it was AMAZING. The burgers are perfect and the best on the island. The hotdogs, wings and everything mahi is incredible. This all comes from a tiny restaurant on the bay that you'd miss if you aren't looking. I'm local and just found this so the mistake is on me! My family loves good food...we're serious foodies and after trying four other restaurants in town, nothing came close to the flavor, quality, and attention to detail we found here. We stopped in right at opening on June 20th, and it was clear from the first bite that the chef takes real pride in what he serves. Every dish we ordered was an absolute hit. We had three orders of Mahi tacos, side of beans, elote, the blackened chicken sandwich, and a hot dog for my little one. Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The fries really stood out, crisp and well-seasoned. Even the beans, which are often just a filler side at most places, were packed with flavor and paired perfectly with their rice. And the elote? Creamy, zesty, and honestly one of the best I've ever had. The service was top-notch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and never let our drinks run low. I also loved the little touches, like the biggest, juiciest lemon wedges we'd been served anywhere on the island. They went above and beyond by bringing a bowl of water and a treat for my service dog without me even having to ask...that really meant a lot. This place is a true find. I have been here in south padre a few days now and the places people have been telling us to go to eat have been very mediocre..however after reading the reviews on Mahi Nics I knew we had to try it out. This is my kind of place, chill vibe at the marina, looking at beautiful boats on the water. The food was outstanding! we had blackened shrimp tacos and blackened mahi tacos with a side of chips and pico, (all freshly made) and 2 frozen drinks that tasted like dessert. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!! And I am not exaggerating, it has been the best food I have had since I landed here. Do yourself a favor and get out of the crappy strip mall restaurants and give this place a go. It feels like you are on vacation and it won't break the bank either...very reasonably priced for the amount of food you receive and the quality of the food. Great little place to stop for a bite to eat and a cold drink when you're in South padre Island. It is outdoor seating with the deck, facing the water and very quaint. The staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. We just had the chips and salsa and the chips were homemade so we had to go back for a second order cause they were so good. Let's start with drinks--not worth the money. We ordered the mango margarita swirl and there was absolutely NO tequila in there. When we brought this to the attention of management, she brought us some white paper cups with tequila diluted with water. It did not smell nor taste like tequila. So disappointing after spending almost $8.00 on 1 drink. We then ordered a hot dog which was surprisingly decent. The bun was even toasted. It also came with jalapeños and I swear they put at least 20 jalapeños on one hot dog--but if that's your thang, you'll be happy. Overall, it was not the most scenic view in my opinion. The homemade coleslaw...yeah probably top 3 of my life!!!! The Elote corn...better than any I've ever had even in Mexico! well... with a solid 4 1/2 stars and over 1K in reviews i was expecting more. nice location, right on the dock, outdoor but covered dining, with smells of burgers and blackened seafood mixed with whiffs of fishy smells you get near docks. was there at 7ish on a saturday - off season so not packed, but busy. walk up ordering - keep walking forward til you find it. i was hankering for shrimp tacos or mexican style shrimp cocktail, but when i asked, was told shrimp was not deveined. i dont get seafood restaurants that want to feed you shrimp poo - for me its not a preference - its right - deveined or wrong - not! so... decided on mahi tacos, hubbie decided to get the islander burger. i got the elote corn - hubbies burger came with the fries that people raved about in reviews. we also decided to start with the mermaid: chips, queso, salsa & pico. lets start with likes: burger was very good - the soft, sweet bun made it. wasnt so soft it fell apart though. salsa was very good, pico tasty, my tacos were pretty good - but fish was tasty but very dry. the elote corn was a MESS! WAY overdressed with gobs and GOBS of chipotle mayo. maybe i missed it, but i did not see "chipotle" in the description. corn itself was ok once i scraped off all the sauce - thats a personal preference. queso was straight up ricos from a can. fries were not great, big huge, steak style but waffle cut, soggy, not crisp, but they were cooked through. also not much service going on, so be prepared to go find someone to refill your tea. there was a self serve water jug. sodas are canned, but only $2, so not overpriced. overall an ok meal, but not as good as we were expecting. read more

When you walk inside Mahi Nic, there is an order station (in case you get confused on how it works). The order board lists amazing food items and drinks. We ordered the Mahi tacos with double fries no slaw, the elote corn, and Chief Burger with sweet tea. The fries were huge and fresh. Our Mahi taco tasted THE BEST I've ever had, especially with lime squeezed on top, FANTASTIC! The chief burger was delicious as was the Elote corn. I have no complaints in any way. Sauces were on point and only added to the flavors of the tacos and on the burger as well. Largest fries EVER, for real! And they taste amazing. PERFECT lunch and dinner option for a beach day on the island! This was the best restaurant our family could find while vacationing on South Padre, and the fries, being so large, lasted us a few meals! If you want the meals to last and love fries, I would try to get at least one extra order of fries! Perfect midnight snack or save it for dinner or the next day. My son and I had the Blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich with the giant fries and my wife had the shrimp tacos with elote corn and Cole slaw for our lunch today about 130pm. You order at counter and then find a seat. We originally sat at the bar overlooking the marina but it started to rain and those seats weren't covered so we moved to a table where they put out a rain guard. Nice view of marina until storm came. We enjoyed the raspberry, strawberry, and peach lemonades as refills were free and staff was attentive as my son refilled his three times! I had two refills and my wife refilled once. Food came out in 45 minutes as promised at order counter. Mahi sandwiches and fries were great and my wife said the shrimp tacos were best she's had and she loved the elote corn. We had the Mahi sandwich and Reel Burger. Fries are huge as promised. Burger and sandwich were delicious. Cooked well. The fries didn't work for me. It was like I was eating a bake potato with no fixings. We also had an order of the nachos. They are just melted cheese, chips, and jalapeños. Pretty plain but cheese was good. Flavor teas were excellent and came with refills! Price was above what was expected but not bad. Service was good. You order and pay at the counter first then sit down and another staff member gets your refills and other service items.
