I had a large group of people and we were treated to excellent service. I got a classic cheeseburger and it was absolutely delicious, I ate everything on my plate. The servers were very attentive and the price was very affordable. The owner came out to greet us and was very friendly, (veteran owned establishment) they also adjusted the lighting for us without us having to ask and we did not need to ask for refills or any other requests. Their picadillo plate is so delicious! Love their build your own breakfast taco too! It's a huge 14" flour tortilla filled with whatever you like and folded in half- read that again.. most places serve it burrito style, not here, one is filling and a steal at $4.99. One of our must-go-to places while we're visiting SPI. We had lunch on a Thursday & we both enjoyed our meals. The seasonings were perfect on both of our fish. He had the fried fish with fries & I had the broiled fish with steamed broccoli and coleslaw. We were greeted as we walked in & our order was taken promptly. We were hesitant to try this restaurant because the reviews were either great or terrible. Our first visit exceeded our expectations. Food was plentiful and service was excellent. We both had a breakfast plate and with tax and a 20% tip, it still only was $20 in total. We liked the fact that the food was served quickly - under 10 minutes from order to us receiving our order at the table. Friendly staff - three different people said thanks for coming in. NO LONGER THE SAME! I recently went to White Sands in Port Isabel and I could not have been more disappointed. I had been there several times before, but the last time I went was a little over a year ago and it was completely different. I ordered the fish and shrimp special (on a Friday) thinking that it would be like it was the last time I was there. However, I was shocked when they brought out the tiniest basket with the tiniest portion of food I could imagine. The two tiny fish fillets were about 1 X 2 inches each and the 4 so-called jumbo shrimp were not exactly very jumbo. I mentioned to the waitress how small the portion was (in comparison to the last time I was there), and she just rolled her eyes and walked away. I literally finished this "meal" in a about 3 minutes and got out of there fast after they took my eleven dollars! Also, the taste of the little bit of food I got was very bland- not much flavor at all to any of it! Immediately after leaving this place, I went to the nearest Jack-in-the-Box and ordered a fish sandwich (among other things) for $2.99 and it was EXACTLY the same size as both of the fish fillets at White Sands combined!! I will definitely not ever go back to this place! Such a shame that they no longer care about their customers! By the way, of course they have larger portions if you do not mind spending 30 dollars for lunch. If you are not on any kind of budget, then by all means give them your money, but for me, this will be my last time at this place. There are plenty of other restaurants to choose from. read more

I'm a local and had never met Arnold; he greets and meets all his customers; new or regulars. The Ambiance is the best along with the view. I've been to this location many times.its now under new ownership....and to be honest you can tell....I typically like to order enchilada plate whenever I see it's available on a menu I don't care the location... enchilada plate is one of my favorite Mexican dishes to eat. This place definitely got it right!!!!! So freaking good!!!!! It wasn't a overloaded plate of rice or beans... I got 4 (2beef&2cheese) enchiladas...and a nice serving of rice and beans on the side.it was perfect!!!!! The service was great very friendly and welcoming. And the view was sweet... i would recommend this place...now I haven't tried anything else from this new menu,but i know a few people that love everything on the menu...i can only vouch for what I had...whatever the owners are doing,they most definitely need to keep it up. Yesterday, 7/23/2021, at about 9:30 am, we stopped at White Sands Restaurant to have breakfast like we have done before many times before. When the food arrived I saw a live cockroach crawling on my mothers food and notified the waitress, Linda, after i snapped a couple of pictures the waitress took the plate with the roach on the food. Sadly, the manager "Nora" was indifferent to the situation, so much that, we were still charged the cockroach plate on our ticket once we were done. Wanting to talk to "Nora" was not an option, she was in the kitchen and didnt come out to speak to me. Poor management and handling of a disgusting situation. read more

I saw a review describing this place as a hidden gem, so I had to seek it out before leaving the island. I got a chance to visit the morning I left the island, while the rain was coming down hard outside. Walking in, I noticed that it was a very large place! The front room by the hostess stand had plenty of tables for a diner, but then I noticed the whole other main room by the water. So definitely a good place to bring a group. I ordered myself a solid breakfast of eggs, pancakes, bacon, and coffee. (There might've been some hash browns or toast in there too, but I can't remember.) I wouldn't say the food was anything to rave about but it was good and hit the spot. And the servers were friendly, with great timing in coming by the table to check on me. The price made me happy because it was less than I expected for all the food I received. read more

We just had our AMAZING Thanksgiving dinner (early) which we ordered from White Sands. We picked up a cooked carved turkey, rolls, creamed spinach, Mac and cheese, stuffing, gravy, and 2 pies for around $100! And there was enough to feed an army! Very flavourful, home cooked goodness. The pies are huge. We got one pumpkin and one pecan. I'm soooo stuffed. We always buy a turkey cooked carved and this place's was the best yet! read more

This place is totally a hidden gem. Would have never even considered stopping here but saw some good reviews on Yelp. We were leaving SPI heading back to Houston area and wanted some lunch. Their menu has a variety of seafood, burgers, Mexican, steaks, pork and chicken dishes. Had their drink special of the day which was amazing and strong! Coconut rum, amaretto, pineapple and raspberry something or other. Bloody Mary was also good! Soft drink and teas were in huge glasses. Fried calamari was fresh, lightly crispy and yummy. I had fresh shrimp tacos which were great. Husband had the oyster po boy. One son has chicken fried steak with no gravy. Other son had a bacon cheeseburger. We all subbed our sides for what we wanted. You'd probably expect the wait staff to be in t shirt and shorts based on the environment but they were in long sleeved dress shirt and looked very professional. They were very polite, attentive and I appreciated being asked for my order first and being served first at my table of males. Restrooms were very clean. It's a little divey for sure (see my pics of exterior) but clean, very good food served on snazzier plates than what I would have expected, excellent service, and reasonable prices. read more

We are locals who have enjoyed White Sands many many years. Alway known for their delicious entrees and most generous portions. Not Anymore!!! While we were excited to support a local Veteran owned business, this place is not it!!! We were a party of six on a Sunday afternoon; nobody was sitting in the dining room; we were the only table! Waitress Trish was very friendly and amenable. That is the best thing I can say about our experience today. Food was served so late, that our party basically ate in shifts. The portions were not small but SKIMPY!! Oysters were cut in half; Shrimp was sized as cocktail shrimp. French fries are smaller than a small batch Eder at McDonalds fries; onion rings not cooked. Genially the food and the portions can only be described as SUCKS!!! Veteran support is important, but you get ripped off! Never again will we consider White Sands. Too bad for a once good local restaurant. read more

I'm only putting one star because I can't give zero. The staff was so incredibly rude to me because of my service dog. The man who I dealed with was hostile and rude. He even asked my mother for me to email my private medical records to him which is 100% ILLEGAL. He said the reason he was being so rude is because he has regulars there that "hate dogs with a passion" but he would do us the "favor" us letting us eat there. I sat my dog who is 7 pounds and is as quiet as a mouse to a table in the corner as to not bother anyone. But as soon as we ordered drinks I could hear him talking badly about me and my dog to other people in the restaurant. So we left. It's sad that people can treat paying customers like this just because of their disability. I will never come back and I highly suggest you avoid this place and enjoy yourself at one of the many other restaurants near the island that don't mistreat their guests! Went to this restaurant for breakfast and another time for dinner. I had their breakfast burrito, my wife had their migas and the kids had eggs and pancakes. The breakfast was very good but we like El Papa better. I asked if they had all you can eat shrimp on the menu like the Vera Cruz down the street. She said yes, so I asked how much she said $13.95. Went back for dinner expecting to get all you can eat shrimp but the price on the menu was $18.95. Very disappointed. We all had their fried fish and it was just okay. For us will go to El Papa for breakfast and other places for dinner. I don't think we'll be back to the White Sands. read more

Been a vacation customer for years and I must say that every visit this place improves. Today was a wonderful visit with both orders being the seafood sampler, fried. The fish, shrimp, and oysters were all great as were the sides. The extra order of sweet potato fries for my son was equally as good. There is plenty of space for large families and groups here. The menu is not limited to seafood and also has a good selection of Mexican and American food choices. read more
