Char Grilled Tuna

The tuna was exact as I ordered. Very well seasoned and delicious. Considering it's a Friday night, service was very quick and timely. Dined on the outside deck and was able to hear the band next door. Great way to spend the evening.

I give you the Chicken Fried Chicken King of Cameron County! DELICIOUS!

Yay! There's a new king in town! I chicken fried chicken and found it! It is perfect. The taste, the look & the flavor are right on. It is well seasoned, with a perfectly golden fried batter and the most tender chicken. You don't even need a knife to cut it. It's SO good. It's served with a side of buttery mashed potatoes & perfectly seasoned steamed mixed veggies. The white country gravy tops it as with a crown making the chicken fried chicken King of Cameron County. The size of the chicken fried chicken is as big as the plate. Amazing! It's under new ownership and even the service is on point. And, of course Pirates Landing is as fun as it has always been with the great view of the Laguna Madre. Come & get it!

I loved everything about this place! The service, the food, the atmosphere! We had a large group and we walked in and were sat rather quickly. We had multiple servers and they were attentive and friendly. The food was quite good and the portions generous. The coconut shrimp was crispy and the pineapple dipping sauce was on point. Our leftovers held until the next day. You get a beautiful view of the lighthouse and outside there is a gorgeous view of the ocean, South Padre Island and the Queen Isabella bridge. We even had a magician pop over to our table for entertainment. Local or tourist Pirate's Landing is a must do!

The food was pretty good like home made, but in the best way. I left full and full of energy. The service was good. I'm grateful I was placed with a kind server who let me have the best view of the ocean and pirate ship. Those potato fries... ahhh he had to fight to keep them on his plate .

Great breakfast! Food was excellent but the service was over the top!!! The reason behind that? Senora Pupa!!! She must be in her 70's. She was absolutely amazing! So happy and cheerful and a true go-getter! Please stop by Pirates Landing and grab you some breakfast and a Bloody Mary and spend some time talking with Ms Pupa!!!!

The food here is always very good. We had the peel in it eat shrimp, which was very fresh. We had fish tacos that were amazing and the most amazing was the maple bacon wrapped shrimp, it was to die for. This place has plenty of seating plenty of outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the water and the pier. The service was decent but a bit slow for it not being a very busy time of day.

What a great place with a great view if you get a seat by the window. They also have outside seating if you don't mind the birds coming up to you, lol. I also saw a very large round table for good size groups. I have ate her twice and I've had delicious meals both times. The first time I ordered the southwest chicken sandwich with waffle fries. The waffle fries were delicious and there were a lot of them! The sandwich was also delicious and served on homemade bread. It was a grilled chicken breast, Swiss cheese, a big slice of honey ham, mayonnaise, and homemade salsa. It also had lettuce and tomato on it. This was a huge sandwich so you better bring your appetite! My friend ordered the blackened shrimp tacos, and said it was the best she's ever had. The second time I opted to get the lunch special, which was waffle fries and a half of the Caribbean chicken sandwich. This was fried chicken breast and it was huge! It had grilled pineapple bacon and Swiss cheese on it with a Caribbean sauce. I would definitely order this again as well. You sure can't beat this meal for $9.99. They have early bird specials Monday through Sunday 2 to 6 PM. They also have happy hour specials during that same time where a margarita is only $3 and a beer is only $2. Bonus! Both times that we were there for lunch they had live music plan. The staff was wonderful and quick to serve us and everything was delicious. If you go there, make sure you check out the pictures on the wall by the restrooms it tells and shows a lot of history of the island.

Food was AMAZING! Service was great! Ambiance was just wanted we needed! We sat outdoors with our children on the deck which was nice. The restaurant hires a Magician that goes around to tables. He was a great entertainment and funny.

Really nice seafood restaurant on the bay. My wife and I were here on a Friday evening for dinner. Were seated right away next to lg. glass window with a spectacular view of the bay. Oscar was our server and quickly took our drink order. In under 5 min. We had our drinks and Oscar took our dinner order. My wife wanted their Crab Louie and I ordered a 1/2 pound of peel and eat shrimp for our appetizer and the Red Fish Rockefeller for my entree. Our order was ready in under 10 min. And looked delicious and they were. My Red Fish with Rockefeller sauce was amazing and the vegetables were done well. My wife's Crab Louie had plenty of crab meat which she shared with me. Very flavorful. The restaurant is clean and spacious. So, if you're in Port Isabel or on SPI come check this place out. You will enjoy your meal and the pirate themed ambiance.

This is a kid friendly restaurant, prices aren't bad at all. Casual ambiance. Right next to a long boardwalk and pier which was a good little walk w the kiddos. Our food was average. My husband enjoyed his flounder with Pontchartrain sauce, this is a creamy sauce w shrimp in it. I had a shrimp dish which had a salsa type sauce in it. While the portion size was generous, it really wasn't my favorite. Felt the sauce was just lacking and heavily tomato tasting. Service was good. Husband had their regular house sangria and this was actually disgusting. It tasted exactly like cough syrup with ice in it, like you couldn't tell a difference. I had the mango sangria and this was fortunately better, on the sweeter side but tolerable. As this seems a touristy place they do have a photographer who comes around and offers to take your picture, you get 1 for free and then pay 20$ for each postcard which they make afterwards if you want. I would recommend if looking for a kid friendly place w a bit of everything from American, Tex-Mex, and seafood. Just stay away from the sangria!

Does the ship move around the water?

No, it does now....that would be nice though.

If you find yourself anywhere near South Padre Island, do yourself a favor and order the shrimp…read morescampi at The Grouchy Gringo. It is nothing short of outstanding. The shrimp are perfectly cooked--tender, plump, and buttery--so fresh they practically melt with each bite. The garlic-infused sauce is rich without being heavy, coating the pasta in a silky finish that brings everything together beautifully. But what truly elevates this dish are the tomatoes. They are delightfully sweet, bright, and bursting with flavor, adding a fresh, vibrant contrast to the savory scampi. Every forkful strikes that perfect balance of citrusy zest, garlic warmth, and natural sweetness. The Grouchy Gringo may have a playful name, but there's nothing grouchy about this plate. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down, savor each bite, and already plan your next visit before you've even finished. Absolutely five-star worthy.

The Grouchy Gringo is a new restaurant since the last time we visited SPI two years ago. We like…read morecajun-creole food so were attracted to this restaurant right away. On our first visit, we were enthusiastically welcomed for lunch. The dining area is to the right side of the main entrance. Our waiter was very friendly and accommodating. He stayed a bit at our table to tell us a little bit about the restaurant. The menu you is very fun to read. For lunch, I ordered a cup of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. The "cup" was large enough to share although I really didn't want to share it. I can't imagine how large a bowl of gumbo will be. I love good gumbo and this was very tasty. A slice of garlic bread is included with the gumbo. Delicious! I also ordered the "fried yardbird" sandwich which is a batter-fried chicken sandwich with crispy lettuce and a large tomato. French fries are included with the sandwiches. My husband purchased the "Friday Special" which was a flounder, nicely breaded and fried and a side of the french fries. We returned on Sunday for breakfast. This Sunday happened to be a cold windy day, and we were the first customers to arrive - definitely grouchy gringos due to the cold and the wind. We had a different waiter this time, and he was so friendly and greeted us warmly. He changed the ambiant music that was playing to a nice selection of soft "blues" which happens to be our favorite music. We both ordered Polly's Biscuits and Andouille Sausage gravy. Polly's Biscuits and Gravy includes two small, but very flaky biscuits and a generous portion of gravy. We also ordered scrambled eggs as an add-on. We were pleased with this selection for breakfast. By the time we left the restaurant, we were pleased to see many other people arriving for breakfast. The Grouchy Gringo is a very large venue, so I hope that it will become a very popular location in SPI because it is definitely a "keeper." It will be awhile before we return to the island, but we will definitely return to The Grouchy Gringo.

I ordered the potato scallops at the recommendation of our server. My husband had the red snapper filet. Both of our dishes were very good. Our server Uzi also did an amazing job checking on us and making sure we had what we needed. We will always return when we come to SPI. My only recommendation to the restaurant is that is probably due for an face lift. It still has dark walls, table, chairs, and floors. Compared to the newer restaurants in SPI that compare with the same type of food is that this one is dated. The newer ones are more modern and brighter. I know it doesn't make a difference with the food but I do think the ambiance would be better.

I totally understand that food runners help out, but we had more interactions with the runner than with our server. We were never asked how everything was, if we needed anything, or if we wanted refills. We're not the type to complain and we're very low-maintenance when we go out to eat. We had a long day and just wanted a light dinner, so it was a little surprising. This was actually the best food we've had at any restaurant we've visited this week, which made it even more disappointing that the service didn't match the quality of the meal.
