I like Pokemon 151 and got taught the other series I never opened that I wanted to buy but wanted certain characters. I even bought very low cost cards as I collect Lorcana and requested(if they could) to penny sleeve them all instead of putting them together in a pack and told them I'd pay extra. They accommodated me and only charged another 5$ which I expected it to be a lot more. I also love it as my S/O never felt harassed or looked down upon by being a female they were so excited to share stories and help find items and just loving the genre and hobby. I usually hate leaving their side because of harassment but I felt comfortable exploring while they have a good time talking and laughing to the employees! Also big thank you to the gentleman that had pony tail and glasses you were the one that answered the phone and helped us. I think Jeremy? You were super helpful and friendly so thank you!

Photography by 3Spade7Star @3Spade7Star_photography…read moreJanuary 25, 2026 - Sunday The Black Cat Shoppe was on my to go see list in Wilmington to see if I could get on a historical tour in a motor vehicle. Unfortunately, they don't have historical tours but they do have tours on foot and it was not feasible for me to do after having a surgery on my hip & leg - still healing. So I browsed the store for a long period and had the most fun with using the coin operated crystal vending machine. For two quarters you can get one to three crystals with a turn of the knob on the machine. I was lucky to get three crystals several times. You don't know how many or what kind of crystals you will get, yet it is fun, and the crystals make a great gift to give to people. I got a lot of green aventurine crystals and crystals I usually would not select like dalmation jasper & a dull moonstone. It was a steal since most crystals are $1-3 each for the sizes I received of these crystals. Alyssa was very engaging and stellar in providing me information and generating more sales effortlessly - just by answering all my questions and showing me different rings stocked inside the ring display. She was delightful, memorable, and helped me select the perfect rings to wear on my index and third finger. I got 3 rings for $24.99. Other items I purchased was: money attraction incense & oudh resin in a glass bottle for incense, unique oracle cards with funny yes & no answers, stickers, a pamphlet detailing all the places where television series and movies were filmed at in Wilmington, North Carolina, and post cards. The postcards were only $1. I should have bought a book there that I thought I already had. The book is The Ghosts of Old Wilmington by John Hirchak. The book is signed by the writer. I had two ghost books about Wilmington but it was not that one. Yet it is another reason I should go back to The Black Cat Shoppe. I plan to come back here and go on their tours later in the future. This is a place I plan to visit again the next time I come to Wilmington, North Carolina.

I love this store. Maybe because I'm an old-er hippie. Stop there every time I'm in Wilmington.read more

I've been in the sports card hobby my entire life, and I can honestly say this was the worst…read moreexperience I've ever had at a card shop. I walked in, spent over an hour looking through inventory, and before I even started pulling cards I specifically asked if the sticker prices were firm. The owner told me no, that he could come down a bit. Based on that, I kept looking and eventually found around 7 cards totaling roughly $1,000 in sticker price. When it came time to make a deal, I offered around 90% of asking -- which is completely normal in this hobby, especially when buying multiple cards at once. Instead of having a respectful conversation, he immediately got defensive, rude, and acted like I insulted him. What made the experience even worse was how disrespectful and condescending he became. He started asking if I was "new to the hobby," if I was "high," and kept trying to belittle me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Then he started flexing about how he once made $50,000 in a single transaction and how "those people honor sticker prices." If that's the case, then don't tell customers you negotiate. On top of that, he literally started repricing cards mid-deal after looking them up, completely ignoring the prices already marked on the cases. Total waste of my time. I've been to card shops all over the country and have never been treated this poorly or talked down to like this in the card community. There are plenty of great shops out there that actually respect customers -- this is not one of them.

Just overall not a good experience and not a great selection of items. People there aren't friendly…read moreat all wouldn't go back.

I do & I don't Does this make sense…read moreEver since they merged with AC Moore They have so much products they can't put it all in the store 90% of it is online Yes online Which means you have to get things online We found out if it NOT on the shelf then it NOT in demand and they won't carry it on the shelf ever and you will have to order online thru their website. And no they don't ship to store which is even more dork in my opinion they don't save the customer on shipping at all. This is why I only give this company this score the company. But I do give the store a better score maybe a 4 because they revamped it and cleaned it up and rearrange it and carry more things and some better things since merging with AC Moore. Prices have gone up as well so make sure you use those one coupon that they offer on the app. Sign up on the app or save the circular from the add! Or sign up for the newsletters and get the coupons. The people are nicer which I have noticed also.they got rid of the college kids and got older people in to work which have personalities and I like this since we are in a college town- Don't get me wrong at times I found college kids can be rude or they will snub you being an older person. Especially when your doing crafts they have no patience to help us to find little things that we are looking for something small, or something specific or special. Older or middle aged people working in retail understand this concept very nicely. I like this and for this I give them a five stars on that ! Five gold stars for keeping older people in retail and giving them a chance and the understanding! That rocks n rolls in my book! Retail is hard as hell and they definitely deserve a standing ovation for that! They stock, they cashier, they know where stuff is, know craftsmanship and they know as well what your talking about when it comes to the ad or products! Pretty cool! Wilmington Michaels keep these people and make them train college kids they could learn from them! Lol seriously !

I like to use a lot of higher end art supplies. Copic markers. Golden paints. Bernat yarn. Now it's where I get a lot of my fabric since Jo-Ann closed. The art supplies are great, but not so much the service. It's a hit or miss experience. When it's bad, it's really bad. Lately, I've been buying more supplies online. There's a lot more options with competitive prices online so I'm sure they are losing some business.
