I like Pokemon 151 and got taught the other series I never opened that I wanted to buy but wanted certain characters. I even bought very low cost cards as I collect Lorcana and requested(if they could) to penny sleeve them all instead of putting them together in a pack and told them I'd pay extra. They accommodated me and only charged another 5$ which I expected it to be a lot more. I also love it as my S/O never felt harassed or looked down upon by being a female they were so excited to share stories and help find items and just loving the genre and hobby. I usually hate leaving their side because of harassment but I felt comfortable exploring while they have a good time talking and laughing to the employees! Also big thank you to the gentleman that had pony tail and glasses you were the one that answered the phone and helped us. I think Jeremy? You were super helpful and friendly so thank you!

All I needed was to make a quick return before a meltdown and instead they both pointed me to the back of a LONG line. My daughter then squirmed out of my hands and we lost two more places in line. I then hold my 1.5 year old to avoid losing our place in line and she proceeds to lose it. Everyone working near me gave me the most judgemental looks, including customers. Not one person said "we will be right with you", "can I help you", "sorry about the long wait", or god forbid someone say "hang in there, you're doing great!" I left in tears! No mom ever should be a spectacle or judged for doing their absolute best in a tough situation! Shame on you Al and Jill (the managers on duty).

I've been in the sports card hobby my entire life, and I can honestly say this was the worst…read moreexperience I've ever had at a card shop. I walked in, spent over an hour looking through inventory, and before I even started pulling cards I specifically asked if the sticker prices were firm. The owner told me no, that he could come down a bit. Based on that, I kept looking and eventually found around 7 cards totaling roughly $1,000 in sticker price. When it came time to make a deal, I offered around 90% of asking -- which is completely normal in this hobby, especially when buying multiple cards at once. Instead of having a respectful conversation, he immediately got defensive, rude, and acted like I insulted him. What made the experience even worse was how disrespectful and condescending he became. He started asking if I was "new to the hobby," if I was "high," and kept trying to belittle me like I didn't know what I was talking about. Then he started flexing about how he once made $50,000 in a single transaction and how "those people honor sticker prices." If that's the case, then don't tell customers you negotiate. On top of that, he literally started repricing cards mid-deal after looking them up, completely ignoring the prices already marked on the cases. Total waste of my time. I've been to card shops all over the country and have never been treated this poorly or talked down to like this in the card community. There are plenty of great shops out there that actually respect customers -- this is not one of them.

Unfortunately, they don't have historical tours but they do have tours on foot and it was not feasible for me to do after having a surgery on my hip & leg - still healing. So I browsed the store for a long period and had the most fun with using the coin operated crystal vending machine. For two quarters you can get one to three crystals with a turn of the knob on the machine. I was lucky to get three crystals several times. You don't know how many or what kind of crystals you will get, yet it is fun, and the crystals make a great gift to give to people. I got a lot of green aventurine crystals and crystals I usually would not select like dalmation jasper & a dull moonstone. It was a steal since most crystals are $1-3 each for the sizes I received of these crystals. Alyssa was very engaging and stellar in providing me information and generating more sales effortlessly - just by answering all my questions and showing me different rings stocked inside the ring display. She was delightful, memorable, and helped me select the perfect rings to wear on my index and third finger. I got 3 rings for $24.99. Other items I purchased was: money attraction incense & oudh resin in a glass bottle for incense, unique oracle cards with funny yes & no answers, stickers, a pamphlet detailing all the places where television series and movies were filmed at in Wilmington, North Carolina, and post cards. The postcards were only $1. I should have bought a book there that I thought I already had. The book is The Ghosts of Old Wilmington by John Hirchak. The book is signed by the writer. I had two ghost books about Wilmington but it was not that one. Yet it is another reason I should go back to The Black Cat Shoppe. I plan to come back here and go on their tours later in the future. This is a place I plan to visit again the next time I come to Wilmington, North Carolina.
