The Intrepid was a disappointment. It was a lot smaller than I expected, and it was just very bland. The exhibits displayed were just 'ok' and not very interesting. Its not entirely bad, but it just didn't 'pop' with me. Nothing really sucked me in, and it just didn't have any flow or energy to it. I had a discounted ticket through AAA, otherwise I would've been more disappointed. The staff were all great, and there's plenty of room to move around, so even on busy days, there's no shoulder-to-shoulder issues.
Really fun experience! Brought my mother, sister and nephew and we had the best time. There's fun for all ages. Interactive exhibits and photo opportunities. Your ticket includes 3 attractions and there are extra experiences you can purchase on top of it. You can explore a lot of the intrepid ship with your base ticket. There's a reasonably priced cafe on the 2nd floor of the front building.
Opened in 1982, the Intrepid Museum is a military & maritime history museum at Pier 86 at 46th Street, along the Hudson River, in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood on the West Side of Manhattan. The 3rd deck features restored living and dining areas to show what life was like for the 3,000 crew members living & working on the ship. 9/11 is the most solemn day of the year. I was there (ground zero) on my way to work. I watched people jump to their deaths holding hands. The sights, sounds, essence are in my bones, my memory, my life. As a way to do good and try my best to stop the tears I volunteer. I work towards a good humanitarian cause. The Intrepid hosts a relevant charity every year on Remembrance Day 9/11. The Intrepid Museum located on Pier 86 on the Hudson River at West 46th Street is quite a colossal vessel of historic exhibitions, and a mammouth icon representative of our great country. Launched in the year 1943, this amazing aircraft carrier has served us through WWII, Vietnam, Cold War, and assisted in the NASA recovery in the 1960s. The Intrepid also welcomed the Enterprise Space Shuttle in 2012. There is much to see and explore, both Air and Sea adventures of our great military on the almighty Intrepid. However, this review is a reflection of my recent visits, when I have volunteered to participate for the best company sponsored event of all: 9/11 Day of Remembrance. Corporations from all over NYC, gather together annually on 9/11 to pack meals for those in need, as well as those devastated by natural disasters, i.e. the people of Puerto Rico devastated by Hurricane Maria in 2017, or the people of the Bahamas devastated by Hurricane Dorian in late August 2019. Today we pack for millions of AMericans in need today. I am very grateful for the support of my company, and the many others we see and meet with on this day when 24 years ago there was so much sorrow. This is one of my favorite museums in New York City and this is my 3rd time here this year in 2025. Went here with my school and with my ex. I loved the planes and the Intrepid ship. I cannot believe the Intrepid was not destroyed in battle and was used in the World War II, Cold War, and Vietnam War! It is that strong! It feels so cool to be in the ship and see how the soldiers live their life in the ship. I saw the beds, kitchen, and living rooms they live in. The bedroom had a stainless sink and beds were bunk beds. I wonder how the living conditions were back then. What amazed me this time that I got there was a video about the Kamikaze against the US. How they attacked us and how we attacked them back. It was bloody and brutal. The video was very loud and there were 4D effects where the museum started to play red lights on and off to signal a drill and started to shoot steam or mist in different directions. My daughter got scared at the mist but thankfully it was safe! Too bad I could not get into the submarine growler this time because it only allowed people taller than 40 inches and strollers are not allowed. Sucked I had a stroller with my daughter. Other than that the whole museum got elevators. There were plenty of bathrooms that were cleaned inside. The cafe was a bit pricey with its food selections. It was mostly sandwiches and a pizza flatbread for entree. There are many cookies and cake slices though for desserts and light bites. Another cool thing that people should not miss is the g force ride where you get inside the plane and it throws you around everywhere like you're flying an Air Force plane going everywhere. You can feel your stomach dropping and the feeling of falling down like a roller coaster! Very cool! People should try this ride when they get here! Gift store has a lot of cool toys for kids. There are many planes from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and NASA. I bought a green Army helicopter and I was pissed off one of the missiles from one end of the plane broke off. My daughter ripped it off and surprisingly it came off! The NASA rocket was the most sturdiest one! It is made out of metal! It looked so cool! The SR 71 Blackbird plane is really cool and goes really fast on the floor when you race it on the floor! This model is really durable too compared to other toys the gift shop has.
The Intrepid is one of NYC's most unique museums- a retired aircraft carrier sitting on Pier 86, a history, technology and military museum with marine, air and shuttle craft onboard, representing all different branches of the US armed forces. Serving in WWII, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, and as a NASA recovery vessel, this immense ship was commissioned in 1943, and travelled worldwide before being retrofitted as a museum and opening to the public in 1982. Its popularity grew in the late 90s, and with a $115 million renovation between 2006-08, the addition of space shuttle Enterprise in 2012, additional interactive activities and children's exhibits added in the past decade, there's a lot to see and do here in its current state. Walking up to the pier, the entrance is located right off 12th Avenue, and you can get a good view of the ship from the park on Pier 84 directly south. On a Saturday mid-afternoon when I arrived, there was a steady trickle of people in line (thru security first then in the ticket/check-in queue), though it was a couple mins only. In the same building is a gift shop and a cafe on the second floor. Further upstairs is an event space with walkway linking to the aircraft carrier. Walking outside onto the pier from the ticket area, a line for the USS Growler submarine exhibit was directly to the right, and the entrance to the main ship to the left. Inside the exhibitions consist of flight, hangar, and gallery decks, and of the many flight vehicles aside from the space shuttle, the Concorde SST (a Lockheed A-12 supersonic reconnaissance plane) stands out. There are over two dozen aircraft to view, all retired having flown over their respective allotment of flight time or due to mechanical problems. It's recommended to start with the ship then make your way to the other exhibits on the pier. Tickets can be booked online in advance: $38 for adults, $36 for seniors and students, $28 for children 5-12 years old, $0 for children less than 4 and active/retired military. There are add-ons such as a VR space shuttle experience, though that specific one was out of commission the day I was there. A local NYC resident discount is available for 50% off, and requires the purchaser to show ID at the ticket counter.
The Intrepid Museum is a military and maritime history museum that opened in Manhattan, New York in August 1982. It was founded by Odysseys in Flight: a nonprofit organization founded by Michael D. Piccola and Bruce Sherer. The museum is mostly composed of exhibits, aircraft, and spacecraft aboard the museum ship USS Intrepid, a World War II-era aircraft carrier and National Historic Landmark, in addition to a cruise missile submarine named USS Growler and a Concorde on Pier 86. The Intrepid, also known as The Fighting "I", is one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II for the United States Navy. She was decommissioned in 1974 after participating in 3 wars and over 30 years of service. The ship was initially supposed to be scrapped, but Odyssey in Flight stepped in with plans to convert it into a museum. I recently visited the Intrepid Museum with my older son. I had a fun day planned for him in NYC and I knew that he would love visiting the museum. I had previously visited the museum (like so many others) on a Middle School field trip. The entirety of the Intrepid has been converted into a museum. It spans three of the carrier's decks; from top to bottom, they are the flight, hangar, and gallery decks. The exhibits featured several models, vintage uniforms, vintage aircraft, and many other artifacts. My son's favorite exhibits were easily all of the simulators. At his age, anything that features pressable buttons, levers or steering wheels is right up his alley. He especially enjoyed sitting in the replica of a NASA Aurora 7 Mercury capsule. The Intrepid Museum is an extensive museum that offers something for everyone in your family. We both enjoyed our visit and give it two thumbs up.
This is a really neat experience for anyone who likes history. The USS intrepid was a flight carrier that and has been slowly remodeled to become the museum that it is today. They have over 100 different aircraft on board the ship and you're able to go through and discover what it was like, living on the carrier. You are able to go onto the flight deck, as well as the hangers you can also go into the helm and see exactly where the captain would've sat to steer this massive carrier. You also have the USS enterprise that has been put on the back of the carrier, so you get to see a really cool piece of space history as well. There is also a submarine that you can go on board and experience as well. Please note that because it is tight spacing that they do limit the number of people who are able to go through it to ensure there's no overcrowding.

There only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because the price of admission is so high. Otherwise, I would highly recommend going here even if your not into ships or planes. It's just a cool place to go to. There's even a small adjacent little park next to it that is nice to visit. Plus the M50 bus stops right in front. So convenient. read more

I spent a lot more time at the Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum than I had originally planned. The museum is deceptively small, even though it is located on a historic aircraft carrier. The facility is located on the west side of Manhattan near Hells Kitchen. It is not close to the subway, but I liked exiting at Hudson Yards and walking up the river. The museum has several different attractions depending on your price range. The various city passes include only the basic museum which is still a great option including several historic military aircraft and a walking tour of the carrier. The Space Shuttle Enterprise and submarine are separate admissions, although the lone British Airways Concorde sitting at the end of the dock is included with the basic. I also opted for the Starlet Academy special event which was fun for a Star Trek fan, but may be boring for others. It does take a lot of time to get one of the interactive stations to complete your mission. Fans of the show can enjoy the costumes and historical relics. Since I had already visited New York and seen a lot of the sights, I was able to make time for the Intrepid. It is sort of isolated, making it a bit more difficult to visit. Nevertheless, this is a fun option for families and those fascinated by aircraft. read more

There's a lot to see at the Intrepid Museum so I suggest going at an earlier time. I arrived to this museum an hour before closing and didn't have time to see the ship nor the submarine but I did get to see the NASA exhibit. Next time I go, I'll try to walk around the entire museum and view everything, Atleast once. Kudos to this cool museum that's located in the middle of the city! read more
Great way to spend your date even a few hours depending on when you go. I went there last on a Sunday so it was busy but the wait to get in wasn't too bad. There was plenty of staff to help keep the lines moving. There are a few ticket options. 4 packages which can include the Carrier, Submarine, Space Shuttle and the Star Trek experience. We ended up going with Silver I think but it was the Space Shuttle, Carrier and Submarine. You get a seperate ticket for each. You then leave the ticketing building and head outdoors to the pier. The submarine is too the right and there is a line to enter to go down into the sub. We unfortunately didn't make it to that but I will the next time. The Carrier you can take the elevator or the stairs up to it. There is a concessions stand right by the entrance. The basics. Hot dogs, sodas, pretzels, ice cream and water. There are also vending machines with soda, water and snacks. The Carrier is impressive. I started inside and explored the inside of the ship. Tons to see. Information is posted everyone on what you are looking at. A cool video of the pilots and some battle footage of the history of the ship. The big planes are up on the main flight deck. Helicopters, planes of all types. It's roped off so you can't touch anything but you can get close enough to take plenty of pictures. You can also get up to the Captains Bridge in a seperate line. Best to go on a not so crowded day. There's also an old concord plane at the end of the dock. There are some tables and seats underneath which was a nice place to take a break. Great way to spend a day. read more

Great Experience!!! From the USS growler submarine to being on the USS Intrepid and seeing all the vintage planes used in different wars/ causes of American History. Breathtaking. This is a large, open space with lots to see, do and read. There is an interactive/ hands on section inside which is great for kids or the kid in us all. There is lego to scale of the USS Intrepid which is pretty cool to see. The old jumpseats were incredible to see- and think, they were ejected at one time from thousands of feet above. ( wow!!) A documentary movie is available but I couldn't wait to go out on deck and see the planes. The spaceship shuttle is also here now. One tip- SKIP THE HIGH HEELS ladies. Go see this one!!! Read your history before you go to really enjoy the planes and the intrepid ship itself. The history on the intrepid, the blackbird and the Concorde is interesting. The new drone exhibit is also pretty cools and includes the amazing drone, the Lady GaGa special solo drone that flew her on the drone for the release of her album. How drones were used in war is also very interesting vs how they are used for recreational purposes today. read more

I was so thrilled to have the USS Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum return from it's long duration away from it's pier. Although I have no military background, I still happen to be a military enthusiast and have visited her about six times. The main attraction, the Intrepid, an Essex class aircraft carrier from WWII, comes back restored and repaired with a new coat of paint, some new aircraft on display, and more areas open for the public to view, one of which is the mess hall and kitchen. It is amazing how the kitchen in an aircraft carrier is churning out so many meals 3 times a day everyday for a crew of over 2 thousand sailors and airmen! The food are not cooked in pots but in huge kettles, and there must have been half a dozen large grills and large commercial ovens in that one section alone. There are interactive computer games where one can pretend to land a jet plane onto the deck of the carrier. Also, there is a helicopter on display that one can climb into and have your photo taken by their staff. At the stern of the ship, there are a bunch of flight simulators to enjoy, but are rather kind of costly. There is also a cargo net climbing activity children can enjoy. On the flight deck, there is a good collection of aircraft from the US and from other countries such as the former Soviet Union, France, and the UK. My favorite plane, the Grumman Corp. F-14 Tomcat is still on display. From there, one can go up to the "Island" of the ship and sit on the Captain's chair and see the amazing view from the bridge. In the hanger deck below, there are exhibits about space travel and a "Kamikaze" attack simulation show with lighting and smoke effects. The USS Growler submarine is also on display and is just as fun and interesting to tour. I would recommend this as the first of your activity when beginning your museum tour. Just be aware, there is a height and body dexterity requirement before entering the submarine. There is usually a wait time anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. You will be amazed at how cramped the living conditions the sailors had to endure months at a time out in the sea. From years back, I recall the tour guide had mentioned the submarines had limited capacity of storing and making fresh water, so showers were limited to only two to three minutes and given once every two weeks! At the end of the pier, is a British Airways SST Concorde, now all decommissioned. At it's time of use, it was the only commercial passenger jet capable going super sonic. The interior is surprisingly small and tight, makes one wonder how luxurious could it really be? From the other yelp reviews, I did not realized that Bank of America card holders could get in free during the first week of the month. I was able to get a discount using my "Entertainment" book where one can purchase a ticket at full price and receive another ticket free which was fine as I went there with my wife. I noticed the McDonald's has been replaced with an Au Bon Pain snack shop. This museum is great for anyone and a venue children would enjoy and have an educational experience in science and history at the same time. It is worth the trip and there is the opportunity to meet with some of the Naval Veterans who have served on the Intrepid volunteering with great and deserved pride. read more
Love this museum! If you are a history lover, this is the place. Even if you're not, it's a great experience for children and adults to understand and see what the intrepid looked like inside and out! I definitely recommend families to come. There is so much information and this place is HUGE! You will be there for 2-3 hours just checking out the ship as well as the submarine. read more
An incredible museum! My inner space nerd was going cray-cray at this fabulous place. The Intrepid is so impressive both in the breadth and depth of stories and artifacts on exhibit. The flight deck is super impressive with all the choppers and jets; even a Blackbird! Inside there are incredible vignettes telling the history of the Intrepid itself which is rich and storied. Incredible that over 3,000 men lived aboard. The highlights for me were seeing the Concord and the NASA / space section with the real space shuttle! The Concord is super impressive and the space section is really well done, entertaining and has and the coolest gift shop. I got astronaut ice cream :-) Pro tip: don't wear thin soled shoes on the flight deck on a hot day or your feet will burn! Ouch! read more
The last time I've been to the Intrepid was when I was a child and my experience today was just as FUN. We attended the Star Trek experience where you train to get into the "Starfleet Academy". Even if you're not a die hard "Trekkie which I'm not- you will enjoy yourself thoroughly. You go through 9 training zones and interactive activities. There are a ton of things to photograph and participate in. Also at the end of your training in the academy you get your results which determines what field you are best suited for in the federation. You also have the option of your results being emailed to you. I recommend this exhibit to any and everyone...it was AMAZING !!! read more

Intrepid sea, air and space museum is one of the coolest museums in NYC... It really interactive...there's so many history background about -the ship itself -the men who were on the ship -aircrafts (multiple..different types ) -spaceships I came here on the weekend pretty crowed..but this is not big museums...might be one of the priciest museums in NYC..once you step inside everything is money... You want to ride the space ship?(8 bucks)... Your want to see the four D show? (7bucks)etc...this place really know how to make money...but it's still worth it...interesting experience...If you have time why don't you visit the USS Intrepid Museum....It's the big gray ship on the west side of Manhattan with a bunch of aircraft on the top deck....come on !!what are u waiting for ?!? read more
This has long been on my list of museums to visit, and it definitely did not disappoint. Arrived around 11:30am on a Sunday with beautiful weather, and there was a line with maybe 20 people ahead of us for the security checkpoint. We waited in the general admission line; they allow people with the NYC City Pass (and other similar programs) and will call tickets to bypass a lot of the general admission line, and skip ahead of those waiting to buy tickets. Once we figured that out, we bought tickets on our phone, and probably saved at least 20 minutes waiting in the ticket line. The first stop was the Growler submarine, which had another line to wait in, but we figured we might as well hit it up first, before the place got any more crowded. The only downside about this place is that you move as fast as the groups in front of you, since the walkways (understandably) are very narrow. The rest of the museum is vast, open, easy to navigate (with the exception of some very narrow and steep staircases). If you're looking for a fun afternoon adventure that'll last maybe 2-3 hours, hit this place up. read more

This was one of the few museums on my citypass list that I never visited before so I had to check it out. I'm not sure if I got to see everything because the museum looks pretty big when you enter, but I think everything is pretty spread out so it just looks that much bigger. But I was in a rush too so I might have not been able to see everything. I wish I had time to go on the submarine ride, but the line was just too long :( You could probably send 2+ hours here with family and friends since there's multiple different sections to look at. My favorite was the space section and definitely their gift shop. I wanted to buy everything!!! read more

Amazing place for those who, like me, love airplanes and history. My favorite one was the Concorde, witch you have to buy an extra ($7) ticket to be able to see the inside (totally worth it). The Space Shuttle Interprise is also there but is not possible to walk in the shuttle. Dozens of other historical planes are also there, including the iconic Black Bird. Great place for adult and kids. read more
There are basically 3 sections to this museum. 1. The submarine - a very old sub where you climb thru to see all the areas where the crew slept, ate, played games, toilets, showers. They have a few folks planted here and there to answer questions you may have about the sub. 2. The aircraft carrier, Intrepid, It's big, with several planes on deck. You can also go up to the Admiral's deck and the Capt's deck, sleep quarters, galley, where the Marines slept, etc. 3. The space shuttle, Encounter. Truth be told, this is just a temp space for the Intrepid which is a prototype which never went into space. They're trying to raise money to put the Enterprise into better quarters. The Los Angeles exhibit of the shuttle Endeavor is so much better and LA did a really nice exhibit on the history of the shuttle program. There are a couple of gift shops here and there. The outside Intrepid Museum Store had a couple of Intrepid ornaments on sale, toys, post cards, key chains, shot glasses, t shirts, are all available for purchase. They told us it would take 2 hrs to look at everything. If you looked at everything, it would take more like 3-4hrs. Look out for some of the tourist booklets you can pick up at hotels, stores or street bins. One of them offer 20% off the general admission price. Prices are discounted for vets, children, seniors. read more
A surprisingly cool place to visit. Yes, there is the ship, the museum, and extras that you would expect to be there but the real bonus comes from some of the special events that are hosted on the ship like the viewing of the 4th of July Fireworks and most recently the 50th Anniversary Star Trek Experience and a special night of Star Trek cast members reading a couple of books and just generally having a great time with a small audience in support of Reading Rainbow. read more
So good! I hadn't been here in years, I had forgot just how cool it is. If you or someone in your life likes:space, ships, planes, or military stuff come here now. So many cool fighter planes, migs, f-16,f-14, also helicopters and even a blackbird aka the xmen plane. The space shuttle is gigantic and really well presented, too bad you can't go inside. The actual air craft carrier is ginormous with so much stuff to explore. Pro tip, if you see no line for the submarine, go then, the line can get quite long. Amazing to see how cramped everything is in there. Thank you to our military vets who served on planes, ships and subs (and land). read more

Spent all afternoon here and really enjoyed it! all the aircrafts on deck are freaking cool! It was so awesome to learn some of the history behind so many WWII and WWI planes, bombers, helicopters and so much more! They had some really cool aircraft! We also toured a WWII submarine which was legit! There is a food and snack area you can purchase food at. We also got to see a space shuttle that was once launched into space. It was HUGE I was impressed they had it in there! So many cool facts and history to learn in the space shuttle room. I loved the inside area of the ship too. More planes in there, great photo opportunities in there as well. The inside portion of the tour is where you learn more about the individuals that served in the wars. This museum is 100% family friendly and I highly recommend a visit or two! read more
4th of July Now I am not fan of Pyrotechnics because each time a poof goes off I can't help but think of how many goats it could have purchased for a dying village. That being said we thought, when in ROME.. We purchased our tickets, (not a good idea to turn up to NY thinking you might get some COS YA WONT) online before the trip and I really have to say it was an expierence I will never forget. there were 1000 of us on there and drinks were a plenty, history lesson on the battleship at hand and marching bands, hotdogs (good ones) water display manoeuvres from water first responders and then the show itself. Great exhibit if you're into that sort of thing. Most of the exhibits are on the deck of the WW2 carrier in the open, so keep that in mind if you're visiting when it's bad weather. Location of the final resting place of the SS orbiter Enterprise. Seeing the space shuttle was just amazing. Lots of information and history in the space shuttle pavilion as well. Well worth the extra ticket. Could have easily just come here for that. read more
Beyond a museum, you get to tour a decommissioned aircraft carrier. The flight deck has a couple dozen planes and helicopters to see. The hangar deck has a bunch of exhibits and a lot of hands on things for kids to do. My 9 year old daughter wasn't interested in the planes, but she loved the exhibits. We skipped the sub tour due to time constraints. We also skipped the shuttle exhibit as we've seen it in both Los Angeles and at the Kennedy Space Center. We had NY passes and bypassed most of the lines, but we probably waited 20 minutes to get our tickets. I'm guessing the regular line may be double that. Note, the nearest subway stop is about 5 long blocks. We walked down, but needed to uber back to make another destination. read more

Where to go if your nephews don't like art /museum, shopping, garden and parks but you need to take them out? Military and war stuff! You get the idea how big is 1960s aircraft carrier, they also have fighter jets, simulators and interactive games.The boys end up loving it and my dad who usually not fond of outdoor activities and museum actually listen to their audio tour guide. It's a bit expensive but this museum is a great choice for family fun! read more

Went on a Friday noon in April. No line not crowed until about 2pm. 2nd time here. Blew off the sub and went straight to the NEW shuttle Enterprise. Everyone was really impressed. I had just spent 6 hrs at NASA in Houston previous month so me not as much. I preferred the flight deck. Good movie on the hanger deck where they re-enacted kamikaze attacks complete with real smoke. Lots of standing and walking without many places to sit down. 2 of the 3 elevators were not working. I had just walked from Central Park so I only lasted about 2 hrs. Didn't find the food and drinks on a lower deck until late. read more

Alot of history. Loved to see old planes submarines and space shuttles. Good plce to go to. If your claustrophobic dont go in the submarine. A heads up on that. read more

Amazing aircraft carrier, museum, facilities! Pros: Super clean place, restoration is kept as the ship stood when it was once operational. Waiting line flows quick for admission, staff are very attentive and aware of people walking around the ship at all times. - Perfect location, this is a all day event, plan ahead, show up early because it will take the whole day walking, moving around, taking pictures. - Parking : Pier 83, close to 43rd st. has a affordable parking, $30.00 average. - Amazing pictures can be taken from top of the aircraft carrier. Inside the ship and within the submarine (its a long line for the submarine but its worth it) - Get out of all the Manhattan craziness and enjoy some quality time with your family and significant other. - Price may seem expensive, but if you look at the bigger picture its a aircraft carrier attached to the pier in Manhattan. Regardless if young or old, its a unique experience, we did the tour on our last day and were running against the clock and regret not have done this earlier on our vacation to NY. Cons: - Long waiting line for the submarine - One cannot go inside the space shuttle. Its contained on a air conditioned facility on the flight deck, but there is no entrance to the spacecraft itself. - Parking can get expensive for only a few hours, yes, expect $30.00 or more. (use the site, Bestparking, to get last minute deals, every penny counts. - A lot of walking, its a big ship and many tight spaces inside the submarine. - Flight deck gets super hot after 12pm on a sunny day, there is a reason it is called steel beach. - Be VERY careful when walking up and down the stairs inside the skin of the ship, remember, one hand for you, one for the ship. Store your smartphone and use both hands just in case to hold on to the rails when moving between decks. Overall: It is so sad the Big Bus, hotel brochures, NY tourist guides do not advertise this museum much more. This should be one of the must do for any tourist in NY. The place is super clean, all items kept in its vintage pristine condition, friendly helpful staff. Attention to detail, they even have a scale model of the ship made out of lego, 250,000 pieces! The only thing is, I wished they would have left the flight deck a little more open as a landing pad, and have one, instead of multiple jets, lined up straight with the flight path. Maybe figures simulating the action of receiving or guiding the jet during landing or take off. One specific focal point, not just a bunch of jets in the top main deck. Five stars! read more

Do they have on site parking ?thinking about visiting from NJ (20minute drive from our house)and wondering should we just drive there or take a bus to the city?
You will need to pay for public parking at a lot. It is probably cheaper to take mass transit than pay for parking. It is about a 10 minute walk from A/C/E train station at 42nd Street.
Is two to three hours long enough to tour this on your own? There will only be two of us. Myself and my 17 year old son. Thank you in advance!
Yes 2-3 hours should be enough time to tour the ship, aircraft and other exhibits. There is usually a line to tour the USS Growler submarine so you might have to skip that exhibit.
How much of the museum is indoor? Thinking of going on a pretty cold day. Thanks in advance.
Everything is indoors except for a few large planes outside. I found out later that one of the presidential debates or interviews was held inside the intrepid museum. A very great place to visit.
