Unfortunately, my most recent experience with the rental rollerblades and roller skates was disappointing. On Sunday (8-23-26), my brother and I had to exchange our rentals three times because they were so uncomfortable. The first two pairs of rollerblades I received had front wheels that were badly worn down. You could tell the wheels hadn't been rotated or maintained properly to keep them evenly worn. This caused my ankles and feet to hurt while skating. The third pair of rollerblades ended up causing even more problems and left me with a blister on my foot. I really think the rink needs to update and properly maintain its rental skates and rollerblades. I understand that rental equipment gets a lot of use, but customers should still be able to skate comfortably and safely. I know I'll eventually have to invest in my own skates, but until then, I hope the rink takes a closer look at its rental equipment. On the positive side, the DJ was great, and I still enjoyed being back at a place that holds a lot of childhood memories for me. I just hope the rental equipment gets some much-needed attention.

Refereeing can be hit or miss which is very common for any sport. What are my likes? The parking lot includes a pair of basketball hoops as well. LED lighting along the path leading to the stadium and aesthetic landscaping throughout. The artificial turf in the stadium includes synthetic "dirt" and "sand". The stadium also includes a patio on the upper level with a dozen or so umbrella tables. Restrooms include changing stations and plenty of stalls. Overall, a great location for multiple sports.

However, the stadium is quaint, new, and clean. The absolute best part for me was the shaded seating and ceiling fans. For those sun enthusiasts, there is a tiny section left unshaded. They have a big screen that introduces all the home players, AstroTurf grass, wooden bats, and the stadium is well lit when the sun goes down. The mascot Sal the Salamander is a delight; great with the kids and fun to watch. Concessions are adequate for the size of the clientele and they offer the basics of hot dogs, beer, ice cream, and more. The parking was convenient. The lot was large and a short distance from the stadium. If you are in the mood for smaller crowds and a hometown baseball feel, north main athletic complex is a fantastic choice.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear why Gipson Play Plaza has quickly become one of Raleigh's most beloved public spaces. Spanning 18.5 acres, it's the largest adventure playground in the Southeast, thoughtfully designed with climbing towers, imaginative play spaces, gardens, public art, and sweeping views of the Raleigh skyline. Parking was plentiful, making it easy to start exploring. Our first stop was the beautifully restored House of Many Porches Market, where you'll find snacks, cold drinks, indoor restrooms, and a welcome escape from the summer heat before heading back outside for more adventure. The children loved moving from one area to the next: running through the water play features, climbing, exploring, and discovering something new around nearly every corner. One of the most memorable moments of our visit was feeding the fish, a quiet pause that became an unexpected highlight amid all the excitement. One thing to note is that on especially hot days, some of the metal slides may be temporarily closed for safety. While completely understandable, it can be a little disappointing for children eager to experience every part of the playground. If I could change one thing, it would simply be adding more traditional swings on the playground. Having recently moved to the Triangle I was looking for ways to get out and meet people. Before…read moremoving to Raleigh I had seen an article in Our State Magazine about the curling club in Durham and thought that would be a perfect way to get out and meet people. I looked up their website and saw that they do a Pizza and Curling event every other Saturday. Said no experience needed. PERFECT. Unfortunately they were all booked for January. I REALLY wanted to go in January because my husband was going out of town at the end of the month for work and the team building activity was... you guessed it, curling. I wanted him to get the chance to try it out before he had to do it with his coworkers. I emailed the contact for the Pizza and Curling and asked if they had any cancellations if we could be put on the wait list. Sue (who coordinates all of the pizza events (I think?)) emailed me back in no time and let me know that she would! A couple of days before the event she let me know that they had had a cancellation the hour before and would I be able to come to that time slot instead. Of course I jumped on it and signed us both up! We headed over in the early afternoon (because we were at an earlier slot, it was curling first pizza second, but if you go to the normal event later, it's pizza first then curling, FYI). It was just us and another couple there. There was also a league going on (I think) and a birthday party. We ended up playing a match against the birthday party after we all learned the basics. Pro tip (I'm not a pro, I stink at it actually) wear yoga pants or athletic pants in general. I did, but my husband did not and I think that hindered him. It also cause him to rip his pants (haha, I still think it's funny), so don't let that happen to you. Even if you don't think you can do it (I fell so many times trying) no one makes you think you suck and everyone is super supportive. It is in fact harder than it looks and I kinda bruised my knee in the process of learning, so for the last couple of times I used a stick to push the stone out since my knee was very unhappy with me. I'm just an uncoordinated mess, so if you are at all athletic I think you'll be more than fine. I would agree that it's a very approachable sport and people in wheelchairs can do it too! It's for all ages, children up to people in their 70s and 80s! I enjoyed my time so much that I'm totally sure we'll be back! And now my husband is more prepared for his work outing! A win win!

Afterwards we grabbed a beer and listened to the other leagues and sessions that Triangle Curling has to offer. I can't wait to try a pick-up and pizza session next!
