Please don't make the mistake of buying roller skates from this website!!…read more I brought the holographic roller skates as a beginner skater because I heard they were a good start for people trying new tricks, and figured that it's rare to find inexpensive skates in a size 11, so why not, right? I almost sprained my ankle on these death traps, due to the poor manufacturing notorious for this brand of skates. After I already placed my order, I started to see a ton of negative reviews of the skates, but there were also really positive ones (which I now know were bots) so I assumed it was just a hit or miss and hoped for the best. They came in the mail within two weeks of placing my order, and I was obsessed with how pretty they were. The excitement wore off when I felt the boot and the material felt like something from Dollar Tree. Very obviously cheaply made, and I didn't have enough skate knowledge then to see how awful the wheels and bearings were. I used them maybe twice a week for MAXIMUM a month, and one day as I was turning in my garage (smooth, flat area) my wheel popped off and my ankle twisted uncomfortably. I was furious, and immediately emailed Angel Skates for a refund, to which they provided me a 10% refund and (after hassling them for more than just a few dollars back) a new wheel to replace the broken one. These are not sidewalk skates as the label suggests, because they barely lasted three weeks of light use in my garage!! They are extremely dangerous and I do not suggest them at all to ANYONE who wants to skate. I essentially wasted $100+ for them to sit in the corner of the garage for a few months after they broke. If you want a pair of aesthetic skates FOR SHOW, then sure invest in these. But under no circumstances should you actually attempt to skate in them. (If you're reading this and looking for a RELIABLE pair of skates, I suggest Moxi Lolly Outdoor Complete Skates. I got mines back in November and they're not as shiny as the Holographic Skates, but they're just as pretty and way more durable! They skate indoors and outdoors very smoothly, and I get compliments on them all the time. They are more expensive, but much more worth it)

However, watching the Carolina Rollergirls was an all new adventure. Must admit that seeing "Whip It" got us to investigate local roller girl teams. We did our research, became fans on facebook, and headed to the arena. The following was impressive. We waited in line for our tickets and headed inside the arena. People passing out books were friendly and helpful in giving you pointers on where to sit etc. Definitely come early and sit ringside, right on the concrete floor right beside the track. Yeah, you might get a skate to the face, but it is totally worth it. These ladies are fierce competitors. The battle we watched was amazingly intense and ended with everyone on their feet cheering on the 1 point deciding victory. It was unbelievable. Next time the Rollergirls are rolling out, make sure you get your a** to the arena and cheer these women on! You will not regret it!

It TOTALLY didn't disappoint, and it was really like old times again. We ate some junk food, browsed the names and bios of the new skaters who've joined the ranks over the years, geeked out over the evolution of the game and new strategies they were employing, and (per the usual), I started fantasizing about my future as a roller girl. Seriously, though, this is some of the best, most wholesome entertainment I can imagine. The Carolina Rollergirls have always done a great job at making roller derby an event for an entire family and for an entire range of ages. They've got plenty of great half-time events, mascots, and crowd interaction, and then on top of that, they're just awesome athletes competing at a really high level. These women are flat-out amazing. The best part about the Rollergirls, though, is how congenial they seem to be. Despite the high level of competition and the bruising nature of the sport, I've always gotten the impression that off the rink the teams hang out and really support each other. Derby-girls stick together. It's encouraging to see a group of women who a) kick ass at their sport and b) have each other's backs. Maybe the word I'm looking for is sportsmanship. And if I had a daughter (or a son, for that matter), I'd take them to see the Rollergirls set a great example.

Skateland USA North Review…read more Skateland USA North was such a fun time--nothing but great vibes all night! The energy was high, the crowd was into it, and the overall atmosphere made for an unforgettable experience. The rink itself was smooth, and the lighting added to the excitement of the night. My only critique for Sunday evenings would be to let the songs play out fully instead of using mixes. It would really enhance the experience to vibe to the full track rather than jumping between different beats. Other than that, everything was on point. Definitely looking forward to coming back!

They have made some fantastic improvements. I remember we skated at our own risk of falling. They have skating aids to assist new skaters now. The gaming area is the corner. The food court has your typical skate rink food. I dove into the nachos and topped it off with some pink lemonade. They have hot dogs, chips, pickles, candy...just put it this way...they have choices! The tunes blasting from speakers will keep your groove going throughout day and night. They play a great variety of steady beats. There were a few pro skaters mingled in the crowd. Watching the pro skaters is so cool and fun. They have an area dedicated for parties or large groups. They have a few arcade games in one corner. If the kids want the little toys from the toy section, they'll love it.

He even allowed me to peak into the skating area to see if it was suitable for our kids. After payment and entry, our kids were immediately wanded, without us being notified that this was a part of their routine. I approached the owner about it for clarification because it's within a parents' right to know what's about to happen to their kid(s) before it happens, and he had a serious attitude about being questioned concerning this. Still with an unprofessional attitude, he went as far to say that "If you want to be here, they have to be wanded" Then told me that he is "known to be an a-hole." I told him that we were leaving and asked his wife for a refund. I had requested to speak to him outside the door and he was trying to be aggressive with his body language, so I explained to him what proper customer service was and that his attitude was a serious problem. You can even tell that his own wife was embarrassed concerning this because it seems that he doesn't only act this way towards paying customers. Some kids can be wild and rambunctious true, but it is up to the adults to lead by example. I would not recommend this place, if anything the foot traffic needs to be stopped at this location. Especially if the owner himself acts like this towards customers.
