They offer counseling for parents who are dealing with the loss of their child and also children's counseling to deal with the loss of a sibling. They get some money through United Way and other funding through donations. They have a sliding fee scale and it's typically $40 or less for services. They run groups as well and some are designed to meet for a certain number of weeks and some are ongoing all year long. The office is in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood in the Midtown/Dilworth area and it's in a house (turned into offices). The staff are very friendly and have been in the field for many years.

The pandemic was tough but the quarantine was a back breaker and to go through it in near complete…read moreisolation was devastating. I sought professional support from Nzinga Cates to help me through some family issues made worse by the quarantine. Due to my depression (which she was supposed to have been helping me with) I had to cancel a few sessions. I would ALWAYS let Cates know that I had to cancel by using her scheduling system prior to the appointment. To my surprise, the last time I had to cancel, I immediately I started getting all of these texts and emails alerting me that all of my future appointments had been canceled. I also immediately received an email letting me know she was dumping me as a patient due to my failure to keep appointments. It was like it was all drafted up and she just inserted my name and hit send. This is a cold, uncaring counselor. If you are in a depression that makes it hard for you to get out of bed and you have to reschedule appointments, then go to a different counselor. The irony is incredible: the condition she's supposed to have been helping me with - and not doing a great job I might add - is the reason it's very difficult for me to get to her appointments so that she could treat me. The answer would have been patience for someone in a lot of pain.

My initial visit was…read morescheduled for 90min in Oct or Nov (I can't remember) she had a emergency, a death in the family in which my appt had to be reschedule. No problem. Things happen and death is definitely something that can't be controlled. I completely understood. However, they could not schedule me for another whole month away. I already waited about a month for the 1st appt to have to wait another month again plus was out of meds that was needed. When I finally met with her, she seemed ok and some what understanding until we went over my meds list. I explained to her as well filled out the paperwork prior to the visit, all the meds that I have been on that worked for me in the past and did not work for me. I was not interested in trying all these different meds for my Anxiety. I was diagnosed with Generalized anxiety disorder also ADHD. Since I am not new to this (therapy or meds)I wanted to stick with what work for me. It's like she was NOT listening to what I was saying. Instead of prescribing what I asked her for (meds I was recently on and worked) she decided to give me something totally different and one of the meds I was on, she gave me a very low dose, stating she had to start me off low. I explained to her, that did not work for me, however a certain dosage did work. Again, she still would not prescribe that dose. Plus also told her the fact that I have been unable to focus, unable to organize etc. I requested to be put on Adderall since that is what my last therapist was going to start me on before I stopped going to them. She refused to put me on that also. She stated that would be too many controlled meds. Mind you, all these meds are meds I was already on except the Adderall. My anxiety/mood had been all over the place. Let's just say bringing in my New Year (2025) was horrible, a total disaster. Ended up breaking up with my boyfriend of 5yrs ( he kept begging for me to take my meds- well I had none to take because the doctor would not prescribe them)he kept saying you are off your meds. I could tell. My kids was saying the same things to me. I was like a ticking time bomb!! When I was taking my meds and the correct dosage, I was calm and under control. Not on them, I'm like the bride of chucky (lol). Lastly, I was so not focused and could not get focused or organized for anything. No matter how hard I tried. I am always on top of things, cleaning. Managing my finances very well, budgeting etc.. I complained to her of being off balanced, not focused etc. She refused to put me on something, plus I barely sleep. Well I ended up over drawing my bank account, not 1 day, several days. That is so not like me. I emailed her, texted begging her to help me. Help me get focused and back organized. Again she refused. I have more than 1 account. Each time I was over drawn I had to pull money from my other account to get me out the negative. Now $2700 later, I realized Nicole Thompson is not the therapist for me. I met with her today just to express these things to her. With tears in my eyes, I told her all I am saying right now, NOT ONE APOLOGY FROM HER! She just said she was not able to start off providing me with those meds. She had to start off the way she did. REALLY! I thought that was very very insensitive to say the least! I WILL NEVER EVER GO TO THIS PLACE OR ADVISE ANYONE TO BE SEEN BY HER!! We deal with enough having these issues we deal with everyday, but to also have a DR who really could careless just makes things harder!! I hope everyone have a great 2025!

Postpartum depression is very real and very scary but with Venus' help I am in a much better place than I have ever been. With COVID it makes things a little tricky but it's awesome to be able to chat with her virtually right now and still get the help I need even with the world in the state it is.
