Everything was pretty great! Our first visit here for our Anniversary date:) We were fortunate to get an early seating. We were about an hour early. The weather was in our favor with sunshine and not too hot. This place does well with umbrellas and translucent awnings. There's are also several areas for a more curated experience in the future. Inside, inside bar area, outdoor bar area, rooftop booths, high chairs... it's great! The Grilled Octopus with Sweet Habanero Aioli was the star of the show! There are two legs served which was icing on the cake! We have never eaten grilled octopus better than this! The charcuterie board had a nice presentation. And it's pretty big. I'm glad we held off on the Tuna Tartar. Our server, (Myranda I think) was extraordinary! She was attentive and even brought a candle to ward off the little fly! It was nice when she took off her sunglasses. We got to see her friendly eyes which made the experience a little more down to earth and human. The only downside was the one bouncer guy that was not very friendly when we accidentally walked the wrong way to take selfies at another part of the rooftop. And he kept sucking on this blue plastic thing the entire time which kinda brings down the classy cool vibe. It's all about the customer experience that shapes the brand right? Nevertheless, this place is a great option. I love that it's a little further North of the River North area which can be congested. It was easy finding street parking! I was also impressed with the music and sound level. Because there are tons of speakers above, there's no reason the blast the volume to enjoy the music. When I say this is top-tier... It's top-tier! When you enter the hotel before you can even go up to the rooftop, they have to check and make sure you have a reservation and check your ID to make sure you're over 21. Once that's done, then they give you a wristband to get up to the rooftop then you check in again when you get up there! So security is on their job! We didn't have to wait at all, told them my name and we were seated right away. The outside was so beautiful and it wasn't too crowded for a Friday night. They had a variety on the menu of drinks and food and the pricing was typical for the entrées that they had. The drinks however were a little pricey but very good. Staff were super sweet, super nice and checked on you throughout your whole time there to make sure everything was great. I would definitely be back to try something else on the menu. read more

We had reservations for Saturday night. I highly recommend having a reservations. Your reservation is confirmed downstairs before getting access. FYI, a deposit is required while booking the reservation. The service was great, our waitress was super pleasant and she recommended a few of her favs from the menu. The vibe was very chill. There was no actual DJ but the playlist was decent. The views of the city skyline at night were beautiful. It definitely had a lounge feel. I just know brunch time is a good time. We kept our food order light because it was late. I had the octopus and my friend ordered the tempura roll. We also ordered the truffle fries. I've had a lot of friends visit this rooftop for brunch and I finally got the chance! The rooftop is very clean with plentiful seating and beautiful chicago views! There's plenty of street parking in the area, no need to valet. Our waitress was Emma and she was great! Checked on us just enough, knew the menu very well, and had a good spirit. My neighbor suggested going to happy hour at io Godfrey rooftop. This my first time here, and we enjoyed sunshine, beach club vibes and great service. There's a good variety for happy hour; drinks and select bites are 50% off! I enjoyed the FROSE ALL DAY, which was an elevated version of a frose. It was a sweet balance of bitter and sweet. My neighbor enjoyed her Prosecco, as she prefers wines. We both shared the flat bread, which is very large to share with heaps of prosciutto. We also enjoyed the slider. The jam and pickles combined into such a tasty flavor. The fries were crispy and warm with the aioli on the side. My second drink was mango daiquiri; very sweet and somewhat sour, packed with the bright mango taste. We wanted to enjoy the rooftop more, so we gad another round of frosé and prosecco. Super fun experience! This was the first spot that caught our attention when we arrived in Chicago. The place was decked out with amazing Halloween decorations for a party they were hosting the next night, and the vibes were great. It's a covered rooftop patio bar with awesome drinks and food. The Wagyu burgers were cheap and delicious during happy hour, especially with the truffle fries. The pizza was a bit of a letdown, though. Came to Chicago for a visit and saw that the Godfrey had openings for Saturday morning. I love that it's an outside bar but It can be converted to indoor. Unfortunately for me, it began to rain so we had to move inside. I ordered a peach Bellini and it was great, mostly prosesseco with a splash of peach, which is how I like it. However it seems that the drinks were taking a little longer than usual. For brunch we started with the truffle fries which were good but also took a while to come out. We ordered the brunch fried rice, with extra bacon and it was very flavorful however the bacon did have some burnt taste to it. The staff was nice and accommodating! Another great experience at the IlO Godfrey! Second time here and they did not disappoint. We made a reservation, which cost $25, but they take it off your bill. I generally don't like to pay ahead, but since we had been there before and I knew it was good, I did. We went at noon on a Friday and it wasn't crowded but many of the tables already had "reserved" on them, so it really is a good idea to reserve. Friday happy hour starts at noon so we ordered off that menu. We started with the Frosé All Day, a nice light cocktail for summer. I liked it so much, I had two. The Mango Daiquiri is also very good. We had the Wagyu Beef Sliders, Blistered Shishito Peppers and the Truffle Flatbread. My favorite was the sliders. We shared the three sliders, but this could definitely be a meal for one, as it comes with fries. The peppers were also good. The truffle flatbread was just okay for me, but while I don't mind truffles, I don't understand the hype. The service was great. It was drizzling a bit so the top was closed, but still an awesome view of chicago. We sat at a low table with a sofa, super comfy. read more

Such a great rooftop for the summer! A great "bougie" rooftop to go with coworkers or friends. It is on the pricey side but I expected it. All the drinks were yummy! We came for happy hour because we saw it on many lists as one of the best rooftop bars in Chicago. The man checking our reservation and IDs was indeed cold like many other reviews suggest, but service was much friendlier inside. However, service was very slow and could have been much more attentive. Happy hour food was pretty alright. We got the wagyu beef sliders and truffle fries. The sliders were good. The truffle fries were large, but the truffle dip was very bland in my opinion. There is only a hint of truffle in the dip. I did like how the fries were cooked though; they're perfect for those who like softer fries. Unfortunately, we also found a hair fried into one of them... The drinks left a lot to be desired. I got the happy hour house red, which was super dry and not tasty. My boyfriend got the mango daiquiri, which was sour. It was blended excellently though so we enjoyed the texture. We were informed about the strict dress code, but it didn't seem adhered to. We saw people in t-shirts and athletic wear. Maybe it's because we came too early and they're just trying to fill seats? If that's the case, then it would make sense to just have the dress code after a certain time? I don't know... The view is fine though I suppose. However, I don't recommend coming here. read more

The pros: good music, fancy chic decor, nice outdoor views, good service. The cons: The drinks kinda suck especially for the price. If I'm being super picky, they use crushed ice for the old fashioned so it melts quick and got watery. Manhattan was overly sweet. Espresso martini was good though. $25 to make reservation through Tock, with the $25 being applied towards the final bill for 75 minutes at the table. They definitely rush you. Busboys kept asking to clear our plates and eventually cleared them while we still had food left AND our drinks when it still had some left. Such a pet peeve!!! 21% service fee charge too. Wild I think it's cool to come look at the heated igloos and outdoor patio but other than that, I would pass. There are better rooftop bar experiences. read more

Went here for new year lunch with the gals. We caught up had great fellowship. The hotel itself is really nice they have pockets and nooks of seating areas that are cute. They even had the igloos on the patio. Service was fast and prompt. Food was fresh and good. I watched Texas beat Arizona in the Cotton bowl . I have been to this rooftop twice. One time at the end of summer and the second time in the middle of winter. The view from this hotel is really beautiful. The roof is actually retractable, so depending on the day it may be open or closed. At one point it started to rain and they closed it while we were there. My first experience was for a sponsored event for corporation and it was really nice. I like the way they had the different rooms section off so that you could have more areas for talking more for presenting your product other areas to lounge in. On the first occasion I was drinking at French 75 and my husband was drinking old-fashioned. We really enjoy both of those cocktails. The first experience we were able to try a lot of different food items from Godfrey. We enjoyed the prime rib, flatbread pizza, cheese curds and the sliders. Everything that we tried in regards to appetizers was really fresh and seasoned well. On my second occasion my friend was staying in the hotel so we decided to go get a drink after dinner. The space is lovely. located on the fourth floor you need either key or entrance via special elevator. The elevator staff were really nice the hostesses were fine. I will say on this occasion the barteners were kind of Snotty. Our drinks were good so that was nice. I asked bartender for a flower or something to make my Frose look pretty and he made a pretend flower with his hands. Okay...all you had to do was give me lemon twist or something. Anyway I love a Good Frose but I just thought the presentation of this one was lacking especially when you give me a big slushy straw to drink it out of. My friend and I stayed at The Godfrey for our 5 day Chicago trip. We decided to check out the I/O Godfrey on Tuesday (3/26 @ 9pm) since Mondays they are closed. It was a mellow night because it was raining. There were a couple of parties there when we arrived. It wasn't too packed which we liked. The space itself was very nice and spacious. Big tv, glass windows for views, lively music, and nice bar area. I can see this place being popular during summer time. Our server told us that it's the only indoor and outdoor bar in Chicago. Hence why the name "I/O." So cool!! I got the raspberry sorbetto - which had pop rocks in it! The sorbet melted in my drink which made it sweet. I enjoyed my drink. My friend got the Peach Out (mocktail) and she said she enjoyed hers as well. We shared the signature black truffle fries and it did not disappoint. Good portion and it was very delicious. Just wished the fries at the bottom were crispier. Good amount of truffle and garlic flavor tho! Smells amazing!! Love the 2 sauces offering too. Our server was awesome. I came in with a friend group when it was really nice out and the rooftop was open - We loved this place. We got the Bourbonberry lemonade Maker's Mark group drink for $65 and it had blackberry, house-made lemonade, agave, mint in it. It was so good and plenty for 5 people. The rooftop is on the 4th floor so not much of a rooftop view, but it's still a good view and just fun vibes with the loungey outdoor seating. We got to sit on a comfortable couch and enjoy the weather, views, and cocktails. I think they play pretty good music as well and the service great. It's pricey for cocktails but every rooftop in Chicago seems to have similar prices for cocktails now and this was not much more expensive than those. The second time I came we also got their truffle fries which I recommend as something to snack on while drinking. I would go during their happy hour but the timings for HH are super limited like 3PM - 5PM and on Fridays only until 3PM. read more

We went to Godfrey in 2018 for Thanksgiving and we ate fantastic turkey, Mac & cheese, greens, stuffing, and an assortment of deserts. Well we thought we would go 2024 it could not have been more disappointing. Our food was cold we had to tell the manager. He acted quickly but we had our plates already. Someone didn't turn on the burners for each tray. What's changed too was there was so many people and kids all over the place...crowded. Last time we were able to go out on the rooftop this time they were blocked by tables & chairs. No place to take holiday photos. It was advertised for $65 bucks we paid $100 after tip & fees for cold food. So we may have had our best time in 2018. Nobody offered us a discount on the cold Thanksgiving meal. Not sure how a group of people ordering food and drinks suppose to gather at such a small table, but we made it happen after maneuvering plates and glasses around. They ended up bring us an extra table to set some items on. If you purchased the bottle of champagne you had access to the mimosa bar which offered a variety of juices and desserts. Our waiter was Stavros. Service was a bit slow but it got better as we were there. He made good drink recommendations. On to the food.... truffle fries are good. They come with ketchup and a truffle dipping sauce. We had to send the 1st patch back because they were close to brunt. A couple of us had the steak and eggs. We definitely weren't impressed. The steak had no flavor and it just tasted like the grill. One of my friends had the crab benedicts. She wasn't overly thrilled about them especially when she found hair in her food, they comp it. River North Rooftop.. A friend and I stayed at the Godfrey, so it was only right to make a girl's night with the rooftop. How convenient! I've experienced IIO Godfrey before, so I was familiar. Did the whole reservation, paid my deposit, etc. However, I was taken aback about how long it took the hostesses to seat us. I was also not fond of where our table was located... all the way in the back by the waiter's station. All of the action was close to the middle of the rooftop, so our table was very unpleasant, but we made the best of it. Our waitress was bubbly and gave us some recommendations. Friend and I ordered the Frosé, which is a patron favorite. We also chose chicken skewers and garlic fries (which were amazing). Seating debacle aside, the real star is the views. So beautiful. Chicago is my top city to visit, so I never get enough of the sights. Really rough experience. Coordinated a work event and it honestly could not have gone worse. We took the time to book an appointment to pre-walk the space 2 days prior, and shared the full run of show for our event only to have the day of be quite the opposite. First, the outdoor furniture was so stained and dirty. We asked for it to be cleaned and only one of the 4 domes was cleaned. Second, you have to buy 3 magnum wines at a very high price. None of these wines did our group enjoy. We didn't mind purchasing them; however we asked for those to be purchased, but not put out, and planned on purchasing quite a bit of the preferred selections and when the event started those were the wines solely put out. Not the other 3 wines we wanted to provide. The wait staff was amazing their only flaw had nothing to do with them - they weren't given proper direction, and told the guests so when they asked for non-alcoholic beverages or cocktails. All in all, a beautiful venue, but some work to do to, for them to be prepared to host elevated events. Recommend management stays closer to coordination of larger parties. read more

Most of the bartenders were very distanced and huddled together to chat instead of taking care of the business/customers. Food we got was not good at all. The wagyu beef sliders were very basic. The blistered shishito peppers came piled high over a tin layer of aioli, super imbalanced. The only bar food item i enjoyed was the prosciutto and burrata flatbread. Drinks are super basic here so don't expect anything fancier that vodka soda, beer or a straight pour. As you walk into the hotel make an immediate left where you will find the elevator to take you to the 4th floor where the rooftop is located. On a Thursday night it was a lil dead but the music was hittin just a bit. Servers were very attentive, and sweet and even took my pictures for me. Being as it was my first time there I had to go out of my comfort zone and get the signature Godfrey roll which was tasty.
