We stopped here for drinks after dinner. The view was beautiful. However, the vibe was not. Our server seemed bothered to be at work and was not very helpful with drink recommendations. I ordered the Frose. It was not good. However, it did make an excellent picture prop!

When I say this is top-tier... It's top-tier! When you enter the hotel before you can even go up to the rooftop, they have to check and make sure you have a reservation and check your ID to make sure you're over 21. Once that's done, then they give you a wristband to get up to the rooftop then you check in again when you get up there! So security is on their job! We didn't have to wait at all, told them my name and we were seated right away. The outside was so beautiful and it wasn't too crowded for a Friday night. They had a variety on the menu of drinks and food and the pricing was typical for the entrées that they had. The drinks however were a little pricey but very good. Staff were super sweet, super nice and checked on you throughout your whole time there to make sure everything was great. I would definitely be back to try something else on the menu.

We had reservations for Saturday night. I highly recommend having a reservations. Your reservation is confirmed downstairs before getting access. FYI, a deposit is required while booking the reservation. The service was great, our waitress was super pleasant and she recommended a few of her favs from the menu. The vibe was very chill. There was no actual DJ but the playlist was decent. The views of the city skyline at night were beautiful. It definitely had a lounge feel. I just know brunch time is a good time. We kept our food order light because it was late. I had the octopus and my friend ordered the tempura roll. We also ordered the truffle fries. Please keep in mind it's a small menu (you can checkout the menu on their website). Everything we ordered was so good! I would for sure return when I'm back in Chicago.

I've had a lot of friends visit this rooftop for brunch and I finally got the chance! The rooftop is very clean with plentiful seating and beautiful chicago views! There's plenty of street parking in the area, no need to valet. Our waitress was Emma and she was great! Checked on us just enough, knew the menu very well, and had a good spirit. All of our food was delicious and filling! Don't let the small plates fool you. The surprising highlight of my brunch were the macrons. DELICIOUS!! I think our tab was fair for a party of 4.

Proof that the best nights always start on a rooftop Throwing it back to one of my favorite Chicago nights -- drinks and bites on the Godfrey Hotel rooftop before heading out to a show. The city views, the cocktails, the energy... it was the perfect pre-night-out stop. There's just something about starting an evening above the skyline with good food, good drinks, and even better company. And now? The rooftop glow-up for winter is everything. The Godfrey has transformed the space into cozy holiday igloos, making it the ultimate cold-weather hangout without giving up those iconic rooftop vibes. Think warm drinks, seasonal bites, twinkly lights, and skyline views -- all bundled up and festive. Whether you're planning a holiday date night, a girls' night, or a pre-show stop this month, the Godfrey rooftop igloos are an absolute must-check-out. Same vibes, new season, even better reason to go. Trust me... add this one to your December plans. What we ordered at the Godfrey rooftop - Fresh veggie crudité with creamy hummus - Warm pita + dips - Juicy slider trio with toasted buns - Crispy fries with ketchup - A refreshing mojito - A berry-forward cocktail (light, fruity, and perfect for rooftop sipping)

The rooftop is beautiful and has a great view of the city. I love seating layout and the seats are comfy. Our appetizers and cocktails were delicious. Server was helpful with providing suggestions for appetizers.

Stopped by Up at The Godfrey and had such a great time! The drinks were definitely the highlight--super refreshing and well-made. I had the Frozen Rosé and the Watermelon Spritz, and both were perfect for a summer evening. Their happy hour deals are solid too--great value for the quality. I also ordered a few bites: the flatbread, shishito peppers, and shrimp tempura. All three were tasty, especially the shrimp tempura--crispy and flavorful without being too heavy. Our waitress was amazing, she always come and check up on us. The rooftop vibe is fun, with great views and a chill atmosphere. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for drinks with friends or a casual night out!

My neighbor suggested going to happy hour at io Godfrey rooftop. This my first time here, and we enjoyed sunshine, beach club vibes and great service. There's a good variety for happy hour; drinks and select bites are 50% off! I enjoyed the FROSE ALL DAY, which was an elevated version of a frose. It was a sweet balance of bitter and sweet. My neighbor enjoyed her Prosecco, as she prefers wines. We both shared the flat bread, which is very large to share with heaps of prosciutto. We also enjoyed the slider. The jam and pickles combined into such a tasty flavor. The fries were crispy and warm with the aioli on the side. My second drink was mango daiquiri; very sweet and somewhat sour, packed with the bright mango taste. We wanted to enjoy the rooftop more, so we gad another round of frosé and prosecco. I'll need to bring my husband next time!

A really nice spot to grab a drink and just vibe. Good views and the bartenders were all super nice. I wish I had ordered food but just came to grab a cold one before heading to the airport for my flight.

Super fun experience! This was the first spot that caught our attention when we arrived in Chicago. The place was decked out with amazing Halloween decorations for a party they were hosting the next night, and the vibes were great. It's a covered rooftop patio bar with awesome drinks and food. The Wagyu burgers were cheap and delicious during happy hour, especially with the truffle fries. The pizza was a bit of a letdown, though. I tried the frozen rosé, a mule, and a few other drinks--all solid. The service was pretty good overall, and I'd definitely come back again.

Came to Chicago for a visit and saw that the Godfrey had openings for Saturday morning. I love that it's an outside bar but It can be converted to indoor. Unfortunately for me, it began to rain so we had to move inside. I ordered a peach Bellini and it was great, mostly prosesseco with a splash of peach, which is how I like it. However it seems that the drinks were taking a little longer than usual. For brunch we started with the truffle fries which were good but also took a while to come out. We ordered the brunch fried rice, with extra bacon and it was very flavorful however the bacon did have some burnt taste to it. The staff was nice and accommodating! I recommend this place and they have great views of the city . Only a 13 minute walk from the magnificent mile!

Such a great rooftop for the summer! A great "bougie" rooftop to go with coworkers or friends. It is on the pricey side but I expected it. All the drinks were yummy! Again, expensive, but expected for the Godfrey. They have a good amount of cocktails and shareables. I definitely will come back next summer!

We came for happy hour because we saw it on many lists as one of the best rooftop bars in Chicago. The man checking our reservation and IDs was indeed cold like many other reviews suggest, but service was much friendlier inside. However, service was very slow and could have been much more attentive. Happy hour food was pretty alright. We got the wagyu beef sliders and truffle fries. The sliders were good. The truffle fries were large, but the truffle dip was very bland in my opinion. There is only a hint of truffle in the dip. I did like how the fries were cooked though; they're perfect for those who like softer fries. Unfortunately, we also found a hair fried into one of them... The drinks left a lot to be desired. I got the happy hour house red, which was super dry and not tasty. My boyfriend got the mango daiquiri, which was sour. It was blended excellently though so we enjoyed the texture. We were informed about the strict dress code, but it didn't seem adhered to. We saw people in t-shirts and athletic wear. Maybe it's because we came too early and they're just trying to fill seats? If that's the case, then it would make sense to just have the dress code after a certain time? I don't know... The view is fine though I suppose. However, I don't recommend coming here.

Do you still have the winter wonderland igloos in april?

Do they still have happy hour?

Thanks for your question, Sophie. We do! Every weekday from 2-5pm.

To reserve a igloo it states that you have to buy a bottle, can I just buy a bottle of wine or do I gave to buy a more expensive bottle?

    A High end bottle.

What are NYEs at the Godfrey rooftop bar like? Average ages of attendees? Music genre? Party vibe? Would love any feedback if you have attended or heard of the NYE event at this hotel. Thanks so much!

Did you end up going? Id like to know how it was!

On average How long is the wait on a Saturday night around 930?

If you're doing bottle service you can call ahead. But just to get drinks and food on a nice summer night... just forget about sitting down. At least a 2hour wait

I sat at the bar downstairs and can confirm the place has a classic speakeasy feel -- the the basement of a place behind a locked door, very dark inside with mood lighting/glass cases and leather chairs/couches around small low tables. It's definitely a great date spot! I took off a star because it's pricey -- I got the "milk punch" on their classic cocktail menu which was $25 and is pretty small, but it's a nice drink and tasted very much like a milk punch drink I got at a speakeasy back home (in Austin, TX). The bartenders were super nice and provided excellent service, no complaints there! The bathrooms were also immaculate. Overall, this is a very nice speakeasy! I've been to many in my day and the ambiance is definitely on par with the best, but I gotta say some other unique ingredients (ideally more floral options!) would really take their menu up a notch! I'll start out by saying that the time in the Aviary was the best cocktail experience we have ever had. Not saying the best cocktails (even though they were very good), but the best experience as far as interesting presentations and overall service combined with good cocktails that when you were drinking them did not feel gimmicky at all, but that everything had a purpose. My wife did the 3 drink progression and ordered The Partridge, The 3 Martini Lunch, and the non-alcoholic version of the Kyoto Plum. I got three cocktails, but because I opted for one on their barrel aged part of the menu, my progression was basically a la carte, not the 3 drink $75 price. We also opted for one small bite of food - The Truffle explosion. My drinks were the Cereal Killer, the In The Rocks, and the Blood and Sand. As far as favorites went Joy's Partridge was basically a Mint Julep with some warming spices, but the presentation was great. Almost every table got that drink so it must be well received. My favorite was the Blood and Sand that was just a really well balanced cocktail. I think that part of the menu does not get the elaborate presentations. We both also enjoyed sharing the 3 martini lunch which was a small version of a Vesper, a Gibson, and a dirty Martini. Two things about this drink, we like our martinis with gin rather than vodka (obviously a Vesper has both), but their rules are that there are no changes to their menus, so both the gibson and the dirty martini were vodka based. The Gibson and the Vesper were our favorites of the three as the dirty martini was too dirty. There was even more olive brine if we wanted it dirtier. Bottom line, top notch experience, great friendly service, and the atmosphere was awesome watching the room being served some of the drinks we had, and ones that we did not order. The Truffle Explosion was also a very good bite, basically a truffle/parmesan infused soup dumpling that exploded in your mouth and helped out with a little food in our belly while having all that alcohol at the same time. The only disappointing cocktail was the Kyoto Plum mocktail, interesting presentation, but tasted just like grape juice - no real character. A hostess from Next came and got us and took us to our table in Next for the 1987 Manhattan meal. Thanks for a great experience Aviary!!

We made a reservation for their three course cocktail experience for four of us which required a deposit of $75 per person. Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else. It truly is a fine dining experience with mixology at the forefront.

I was seated upstairs at the bar (there's an up and a downstairs bar) and the bartender was very nice, they served me pretty quick. I didn't hang about long but there were several couples clearly on dates, and I would say it's a nice spot for that -- not the fanciest, but certainly more upscale than casual. Bathrooms were immaculate too! Of note, I didn't have a car but saw metered parking directly out front and along the whole street there in shopping area. It was VERY packed but there was a lot of turnover so I imagine if you drove you wouldn't have to circle too long before finding a spot.

We decided to dine at the bar so we could take advantage of the everyday happy hour and use our InKind app. The espresso martini was a HIT. Our favorites were the chips and dips, cheeseburger, chicken taco pita, truffle fries, and oysters. The wings were just okay and I did not love the herb aioli. Our bartender server, I believe her name was Delia, sorry if I spelled it wrong, was super nice. She got slammed but still gave great service the whole time. The ambience is gorgeous and the music really set the vibe. Would definitely come back!

Even the area they kept water for easy access was well thought out. I started with a dozen oysters and ended with the wagyu smash burger, as it was a must order. The oysters are $1 during happy hour, which is 4pm - 6pm everyday. The oysters were fresh and the perfect size, not too big or too small. It came with two sauces, lemons, and mini Tabascos. The wagyu smash burger was pretty good and filling. I'm not the biggest fan of burgers but this one is definitely worth trying! My waiter was attentive and chill. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and can't wait to come back!
