We had such a great experience at this Iraqi café! The waitress was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and helpful. I really wanted to try a dish that people in Iraq traditionally eat, and she recommended the Kabob Al Anbar. She explained that they get their seasoning from Iraq. She also mentioned that they ship something from there, although I wasn't completely sure whether she meant the meat or the seasoning, so I don't want to misstate it. Either way, the flavors were definitely something I was excited to try. Since there were nine of us, she recommended the mixed plate so we could sample different kabobs, including the chicken tikki and lamb kabob. Of course, we had to try it! It was a great way for everyone to taste a variety of dishes. My favorite was the kabob al anbar. This is a must try along with the falafel! I also tried the Iraqi tea, which reminded me of chai but had a stronger cardamom flavor. It was delicious and a nice way to finish the meal. Overall, we really appreciated how welcoming and helpful the waitress was. She made our experience even better and helped us explore some authentic Iraqi flavors. I really do not know how I feel about this place. I went the first time expecting nothing and we left with the best experience ever! The food was so so good! Specially the falafel and the knefeh at the end. The owner is so friendly! And so talkative! The waitress is super sweet and very attentive I decided to take my family for the shisha and food. Everything was going ok... the second time the food wasn't as good as the first time. We had the same waitress until it was time for her to go home. After she left nobody ever came to check on us. I had to go flag them to come fix the charcoal to order more drinks. Came the time to check out I went and paid and as usual I do not look at the receipt. I added 20 percent tip and left. In the car my mom asked me about the bill I told her approximately how much it was. She right away told me there is a mistake and I need to go back in and tell them. I did! Turned out they added a 20 percent service charge. Mind you we were only 4! And no where is written that they have a service charge for certain amount of people. The guy at the register wasn't so friendly about it and kept on blaming it on the precious waitress. Yes the owner came and she reversed the charges but it left me with a not so good feeling. I was in the mood for some Mediterranean/middle eastern cuisine, and this spot came highly recommended (reviewed). Even thought it was quite a bit out of the way I decided to give it a try I stopped by to dine-in at dinner time on a weekday. The restaurant itself is at the very end of a little outlet of shops. The parking was a little tricky. There's plenty of signage. The way it's set up is there is a restaurant and a hookah lounge. I didn't get a change to explore the lounge but it looked neat. There's also a small outdoor seating area out front When you enter the main restaurant the server will take you to your seat, get you a menu, and take your order. There are tables and booth options. The menu offers a variety of classic Mediterranean dishes. There are coffees and teas. I saw someone order a tea and it came out on a tray with intricate glassware. The patrons did mention that it was light (watered down). It is also worth noting that there is no alcohol served The food looked amazing, but unfortunately, I was extremely unimpressed. The chicken was over seasoned and over browned. The hummus lacked any real flavor. The fries were soggy and pitiful. I kept forcing myself to eat and then eventually I stopped and said "why am I doing this" The server was incredible. So pleasant and professional. The food took longer than I would have liked, but I think this was the chef and less her. I heard her having to remind the chef that orders had come through Some tips: The menu doesn't provide pictures of dishes, but if you look online you will be able to find plenty I was eating solo, but I would consider ordering a handful of appetizers and plates and share (family style). Everything does look delicious, and I just hope they had an off night Of you take baklava togo they will package it with some crushed pistachio to add to it. Our new favorite place for Middle Eastern cuisine! They have more traditional dishes for those who want something authentic, American dishes for the kids and guests who may not be in the mood for something new, and some experimental or fusion dishes. Basically, something for everyone! I got the lamb tikka. I'm crazy for lamb meat and this was done really well. My wife got a shwarma sandwich like she does everywhere else, and she raved about it. My son, the pickiest eater, got the beef shwarma pizza and really dug. He tried some of my lamb, which he never likes, and loved it too! I ordered a Turkish coffee, which I really liked. We were also served complementary samples of Arabic coffee. It was really good. I'm quite the coffee snob so I'm pretty hard to impress here. The staff are kind and very attentive. The restaurant is easy to access and near a lot of other stuff, so conveniently located. If you like animals, stop by about 10 minutes early, and right across the street. You can watch the dogs at Lucy's playing outside. Don't worry, they're not a part of Iraqi Cafe and behind a fence. Just cute background noise on the other side of the parking lot. read more

Great experience here. The food was excellent, far surpassed what we expected. We had a range of dishes from chicken and shawarma, gyros, fries, rice, hummus, and beef tika. Everything was excellent, very fresh and flavorful, and the portions were huge. We weren't sure what to expect, had just noticed the restaurant in our area, and we can be picky about mediterranean. We tried out Iraqi Cafe on Thousand Oaks, and it was absolutely delicious! We started with a couple of different appetizers, and the hummus topped with beef shawarma was definitely my favorite--it was so good! The bread was delicious as well. We had a party of seven, and the service was quick and attentive. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and the gyros were tasty. Everyone in our group was satisfied with their meal and overall experience. The owner was also very friendly and even let us try some of the coffee. We also ordered a pot of hot tea, which was delicious. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back! read more

The restaurant was clean and empty when we arrived. Host/waiter was very attentive and had great customer service skills. Some of the things on the menu were not available as they had a big event the night prior. I tried the chicken shawarma sandwich with fries and the gyro as well. All tasted great. I just can't give them a higher rating yet because they were understaffed and they got busy so after getting our entrees, almost an hour passed and still no dessert.
