I met up with a friend around 7:30p' on a Saturday evening and this would be my first at Habibi Cafe and my first time trying hookah. You have a choice of sitting inside at either a table or couch setting. You can also sit outside on their patio which looked really cool. I sat inside and being my first time patroning I felt the service could have been a little friendlier and helpful. Thankfully the people who I sat next to were super friendly and helpful in explaining everything to me. I love the decor! The lighting and couch/benches gives it just a kiss of Mediterranean feel. For food, I tried the gyro plate and it was really good. For drink I had a hibiscus raspberry hot tea. For hookah I think it was a combo of flavors. It was nice and I was really intrigued with the process and the coals. This place is open late nights so it's a good hangout place and it's quiet enough for studying or homework. Most likely will not return. Paid close to $50 for a gyro, that was over salted, the pita wrap tasted store bought, and tzatziki was not flavorful. First of all- I ordered the hummus appetizer and the tzaziki appetizer. The menu says $5.99 for each- but when I picked up my food to pay, they charged me $7.99 for each. I'm not one to usually complain, so I didnt bother to. However.. the appetizers weren't even halfway full... So I basically paid $8 for about 6oz of the tzaziki and hummus. Each. Service: We were seated and our oder was taken promptly. About 25 min after ordering we still had not received our appetizer of tzaziki which should be an already made item and should come out fast. They came by to say that the printer had run out of ink so the kitchen did not know about our order but that it would be out in 15 minutes; I highly doubt this was the case as we saw many tables get their food and shakes after we placed our food order. The appetizer arrived 7 minutes later and the food arrived 20 minutes later (total 50 min after ordering). The waitress did try to make amends by giving us a slice of cheesecake. The waitresses are very busy serving and maintaining all the hookas (ex: flipping and adding coals), and taking and serving orders. They should probably have staff to solely take care of the hookahs to avoid this lack of service. Or, they should just focus on the hookah which seems their main product. In terms of the food: -tzaziki: good but small amount for $6 compared to other Mediterranean restaurants of this caliber -kofta kabob: mild flavor, I needed to ask for hot sauce for a little more depth of flavor. -gyro platter: okay flavor but was too salty and over powered everything else. Other: there is large outside seating which is nice. I *think* the restaurant is BYOB as there was no bar section but I saw a table with bottles of wine. Meh. I really wanted to like this place. I have been trying to come here for a while now, it opens at 4 and I can never make it that long before eating lol but today we finally went! And I have to say it was a major let down. The Turkish coffee was spiced fully with cardamom as the predominant flavor, which was fine, it tasted strong but nice. I was disappointed by the super basic carafe, I really was expecting a super intricate set but oh well. Food came out and it was bland and basic. My mistake, I ordered two to go and now stuck with a mountain for burnt pita chips taking up room in my trash can. The "house dressing" is some sort of cheap oil without any seasoning added... you literally get container of oil and this is sold as the "house dressing." The was part of a $75 order. On Sunday, January 14 I took a good friend for dinner that night to celebrate her birthday. This was not my first time at this restaurant. I have even celebrated my sons birthday at this restaurant when he made the age of 20. Last night was strange in so many words. As we proceed to give our order, we ask for a glass of ice water instead, we were giving bottle water and I said no can we just get water with some ice and a glass. The young man said to me we don't have that, at what point a restaurant can I give you a glass of ice water, this was add I felt like he purposely did this. As a matter fact, I know it was purposely done. I enjoyed the food. I've always enjoyed the food but because of this experience, I may return. This may have been my eighth or ninth visit to this restaurant. I've never had such horrible service ever. I tried to call the restaurant and there's no answer. Maybe they're not open on Monday but if the owner or a higher up management person sees this they need to know that customers are being refuse a glass of water paying customers that's ordering food. This is something that should not happen anywhere. I am not happy about this and I hope everyone that read this can also read between the lines. I love the food here. The falafel is moist and delicious. The falafel wrap is wonderful and a great way to eat the falafel on the run. The hummus is delicious . The gyro is also very very good. The prices are very reasonable. Hard to be the combination of delicious and inexpensive. For drinks the Turkish coffee and the smoothies are so very good. Inside it is nice a cozy. Very comforting. They offer hookah, delicious food (their wings are surprisingly good), turkish coffee and my favorite...BYOB!! You can grab a six pack, bottle or single beers and bring it in for a very low cover charge. You got central market and HEB near by to buy any wine and beer u like and various liquor stores to bring any bottle u like. They'll bring u ice and cups if u ask and they allow u to bring ur own smoking prouducts as well. If u need any smoking products they sell pods, cigarettes and cigars. This is definitely a chill spot to go too if u wanna just drink and smoke and the prices definitely beats the upscale and trendy overpriced bars nearby especially since u can bring any alcohol u like.
