San Antonio, Texas This restaurant is in a strip mall behind a gas station. No trouble parking as we came at 6:30 PM on a Tuesday night. The place is relatively empty and has 8 to 10 tables with just as many boots. Very clean. All the seats are wooden as well as the booths. Not the most comfortable place to sit. The menu is not large, but there were many delicious looking dishes. I chose the yellow curry with chicken with a medium spice. My husband chose the Pad Wen Sen with chicken. Water was quickly brought to our table, but we were never asked if we wanted something else to drink. Honestly, I don't even know what else they offer as I see no bar upfront. They have a single fork wrapped up in a napkin and real plates. Meaning no baskets or Styrofoam or plastic to eat from, only to take your leftover food home. The yellow curry came out in a bowl with the rice on the side. The flavor was delicious. The potatoes were done to perfection and the sauce had a spicy sweet taste. The carrots were fresh and a little crunchy, but that is just the way I like them. My only negative is that my chicken was WAY over done. The pad wen sen had plenty of chicken and veggies. The flavor was good and had a variety of vegetables to choose from. Overall, I would give this place 4.5 stars. Since chicken was the main protein of my meal, I should take off more stars, but I really did enjoy the flavor of the food. I would definitely recommend this place and come back. Service was great. Im so glad my husband and I finally didn't miss this gem of a place. It is kind of hidden behind the gas station that if you are driving broadway towards highway 410 you may miss it. The food was fresh and deliciously flavored. The service met our expectations and beyond. Our food arrived timely and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The owner was kind enough to come say hello and ensure we had all we needed. We ordered Satay as an appetizer. The peanut sauce was the cherry on top. My husband ordered the Chicken pad thai with a miso soup. I ordered Pad Kratiem (garlic) with shrimp and Thom Kha soup. We devoured our plates and almost forgot to take photos. The ambience cozy meets elegant and clean. You could tell they care about what they do and make it with love; family owned. While the meats tasted fresh, I wish they would have "fried" the rice and meats a little bit longer, as it was hot, but missing the fried taste. Dad wanted the Egg Drop Soup. We shared the Pad Kratiem with shrimp. It was a garlic stir fry with mixed vegetables. Love the smell as Supin set the dish down! I could see the garlic flakes. The taste was even better. The shrimp was pretty big and cooked perfectly. Dad and I loved the sauce, too! Then we shared the Mango Sticky Rice. Dad enjoyed every bite! I should've known that the Thai tea wouldn't be very good because it was cheap compared to other Thai restaurants. The Thai tea tasted like it was made with sewer water, and it was crazy sweet. Like not condensed milk, or anything, but just a ton of sugar. It was so difficult to drink because it was just like overly sugary sewer water. I had to dump most of it out unfortunately. They gave generous portions for the price and the SPICE LEVEL is ACCURATE; when I ask for level 1, it is seriously Thai spice level 1. Super disappointed. My office is right across the street and I was hoping this would be a great easy lunch spot so I gave it a try and it was a disaster from the start. I ordered at 12:07, it said it would be ready at 12:10 to 12:20 then updated to 12:20 - 12:30 so I went in at 12:25 and it seemed like they didn't even see my order had come in. At 12:41 it was handed to me. I had asked for utensils but they were not included. When I sat down at my desk I noticed the container was leaking into the bag. When I opened and started eating I found that my food was swimming in some kind of saucy water. It's pretty nasty and most of it's going in the trash. Photos attached. I came here for lunch after reading reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, my visit was disappointing. While the wait staff is friendly and helpful, my food was below average. I ordered the summer rolls and Tom Ka with tofu. Very fresh tasting but the rolls were pretty much iceberg lettuce rolls. The soup broth was terrific but the tofu had been sliced so thin and fried to death. Unfortunately, that resulted in dry, spongy tofu. Each time, the food and experience has been consistent. I have visited each time during lunch on various days of the week. I have visited for both business and personal lunch meetings. If you love Thai food and have not visited here, make it a priority now! The location took a minute for me to find. It is hidden behind the gas station on the corner of Broadway and 410 access road, so don't get discouraged. Sometimes your navigation will take you to the rear of the gas station...lol. You can't miss it on the corner of the L-shaped strip mall. Parking was easy right in front of the entrance! In a time when everything is so pricey, here is one thing that appears to be consistent for the moment. You won't be scared away with the lunch specials at Thai Casa! The portions are large and there is plenty of room to spread out and have your own space during every one of my visits! Plenty of windows and booths so you can find your perfect spot! Restrooms are exceptionally clean and fresh, which is an added comfort when visiting! Everything appears to be clean and sanitized. The food is hot, fresh, light, and fluffy. No heavy pastes or sauces which I appreciate! Waiters ask you how spicy you want your dish and I have never had any concerns with how it has come out. I know...this sounds so basic, but given the lack of consistency at so many restaurants I have to reiterate the following for Thai Casa: * Sticky Rice: hot, sticky, and fluffy! * Noodles: hot, fluffy, and not overly pasty/saucy! * Vegetables/Limes: fresh, crispy, juicy! * Soups: Hot, tasty, fresh, and with flavor! * Eggrolls/Springrolls: Hot, crispy, crunchy...a delight! * Sauces: Clear in color, taste, and a perfect compliment! I outline the above as my experiences has not been as good at so many other Thai restaurants around town. Perhaps one thing is good, but another is lacking. Not Thai Casa...everything has been excellent in my experiences! If you are in doubt of where to start, I recommend to order the crispy spring rolls as an appetizer. Dip them in the sauce! Yum! Get the Pad Thai. You can't go wrong! For veggie lovers, get the Pad Thai with tofu...it tastes great here! Check out the photos. Thai Casa is now one of my favorite destinations for lunch. 2nd time ordering from here and another disappointment. First time I ordered they didn't have the items to make the dish on the menu so my order was cancelled online. Ok no biggie, well today I ordered a "Thai Beef Salad". There was nothing Thai about the salad except the 2 oz of 'Thai flavored beef' they added on top. Salad was just iceberg lettuce, tomato, 1 slither of radish, a couple pieces of sliced cucumber, 1 slice of red onion and cilantro. Not sure what's so Thai about this salad they want to charge $12 for. On top of everything, I initially thought they didn't put any dressing on the side....oh they sure did. It was just poured into the Togo bag with no container. Literally they ladled some Thai dressing into the plastic bag that you use to carry out your food, NO Togo ramekin or cup, just straight into the bag. All I could do was laugh. I overheard the 'manager/owner' telling a customer they're having a hard time keeping wait-staff. Well when you serve bad food with this type of customer service people aren't going to want to go to your restaurant which in turn keeps employees away because they won't make any money. I tried this place out for lunch on a Thursday and I'm happy to share that I enjoyed my time at Thai Casa. The server was extremely helpful and attentive. The food was AMAZING. Everything I ordered, I enjoyed. I got the Thai green curry shrimp and the summer rolls and a Thai tea and it got me really full. Thai tea was perfect. I love the sweet flavor that Thai tea naturally has when brewed and the bright orange color is my favorite thing about it. The summer rolls were so refreshing and light and also were flavorful.
