Ms. Tam is excellent. My son has been enrolled in one of her online classes for about 3 months, and his reading skills have skyrocketed. Our 5 year old is already reading now, in just 3 weeks. She's in TK and I was concerned that she wasn't practicing her reading skills enough at school. Within 3 weeks, my child is able to identify sight words, uses whole body movement for letter sounds, and can read 3 letter and 4 letter words. My daughter had just turned four when she started biweekly classes with Ms. Tam virtually. It's been six months now and I have to say it is one of our best investments for our daughter. Ms. Tam and Ms. Valerie are AWESOME! I have a 6 year old daughter just start Kinder this year. She attends twice a week and we been enrolled for about half a year now. Before my daughter was not comfortable with online classes as she felt boring and less focused. With the help of both wonderful teachers here, I was able to see a drastic change on my 6 year old. May son joined Ms. Tams class in February and I cannot thank her enough. My son was struggling to recognize his letters and put the sounds to each one. I desperately needed to find someone help my 5 years old daughter with phonics. We have been reading books to her every night in addition to her pre-K program. Ms. Victoria is my sons tutor and she is amazing! My son began 1st grade as a nonreader or writer. His speech impairment made it difficult for him to learn in a large class setting. His 1st grade teacher would tell me that he was having concentration issues (because he was lost and found the curriculum difficult as a nonreader) that he was behind in reading and writing. He wouldn't even attempt to read or write because he said he couldn't and felt so deflated. Once Ms. Victoria became his tutor several months ago he is now a reader! He now feels confident with reading and writing. In writing he went from drawing, to writing one sentence to now writing several sentences because he is able to sound out words (his spelling is not the best yet, but he is putting words and sentences together!). His 1st grade teacher has recently also reported that he is now concentrating a lot more during lessons. He is able to read the instructions in his homework with little to no help. We are at the end of the school year and in a few months he went from a nonreader to now being two reading levels below the 1st grade reading level he should be at before starting 2nd grade. His 1st grade teacher has been amazed at how quickly his skills have improved. This class is helping my son close his reading gap! He is so close to catching up and being at the same level as his 1st grade peers. He also knows most of his 1st grade sight words. We are continuing with the reading program throughout the summer so that he is ready for 2nd grade. I am confident he will increase his reading levels throughout the summer. Also, I was skeptical that learning how to read through zoom would work since my son has a hard time concentrating, but 30 minutes twice a week has been so instrumental and my son is engaged the whole time! My 4 year old daughter was SO ready to read, but they were only teaching basic ABC's in her preschool. iRead Early Phonics is the best thing we did for our 2 younger kids. We enrolled them to Janice's class when they were 4 years old while they were also in preschool. Even though it's only once a week for 2hours, our kid's reading skills tremendously improved within a couple of months. By the time they entered kindergarten, they were already reading big words. Reading at an early age really helped them excel in Elementary. Janice Tam has been so great with our kids and with all other kids as well. Most of the kids who took her class has had the same success with their respective schools. I highly suggest parents to enroll their young kids to this class. I believe you can enroll them as young as 3 1/2. You will see improvement in your child within a few sessions. I do suggest to keep your kid in this class until they truly master reading and not pull them out. Janice will usually let you know when they are ready. Keeping them longer will help them to become more proficient in the language. They will become more independent and will need less help with finishing their English and language homework (Just need help with other subjects like Math).
