Alterations on two long dresses for my son's wedding. She inquired exactly what I was looking in the alterations. She listened and gave me some suggestions. I have Multiple Sclerosis so safety was a major concern. We discussed the length that I would feel comfortable walking and dancing. The material was a very delicate lace. The second dress for the same occasion but the material was a silky texture. She suggested a change for the front portion of the collar. Her input was appreciated. I had lost weight and with the suggestion she made was something I would never thought was possible. I went to pickup the dresses. I was nervous, not sure that it would fit well. I was extremely excited when I tried on the first lace dress. She adjusted the zipper that I had trouble closing. It closed without any problem. The length of the dress was perfection. She is a true professional. The second silky dress was unbelievable. The front collar was very subtle and classic, exactly my style of dressing. Irene made me and my husband very comfortable. Her business is extremely busy nevertheless Irene made me feel like a priority. Here staff is efficient and everyone is greeted immediately and helped with their specific needs. I was referred to her from the salesperson who assisted me with my purchase of my dress. Irene charges substantially more than other tailors. Often costs over 100% more than others. I've put my hypothesis to the test by having similar work done on similar articles of clothing. E.g. I paid $8 for a hem, she charges $16 for the same brand of jeans but in a different color. Fixing the back of a blazer costs $20 and Irene charges $45. I used to bring my clothing here bc I lived nearby and suspected I was paying more. I now go to a tailor in Short Hills and paying less for the same quality of work. read more

RACISM! The individuals at this establishment were extraordinarily nasty and downright rude. I came here to see if the owners would help me with my measurements so that I could order my dress for an Indian wedding that I am attending. I hoped to bring my items back for alterations since I live in this community. Not only was I questioned incessantly with them making the assumption that I was going to an African wedding because I am Black, but the individual who took the measurements rolled her eyes at me and put her hand up in my face. I left without even getting my measurements completed. It was an extremely dehumanizing experience, and no one in the establishment was welcoming. They tried to call after me as I was leaving, but I was already rushing out of the establishment because I had tears in my eyes. The Professional. I've been Irene's patron for the last 3 years since fellow yelper, Jose C. gave me his recommendation. I'm a true fan. I've been to tailors a lot closer to home but Irene's work is just phenomenal. Her quaint establishment has 2 dressing rooms and one platform for fittings. So far, I've gotten 4 pairs of dress pants shortened, 1 suit better fitted, 1 jumpsuit adjusted in the inseam (it was too crotchy), shortened in the pants and shoulder straps, and made smaller in the waist, and 2 cocktail dresses and 1 formal gown shortened, straps shortened, and made smaller in the torso and waist. Irene does not take short cuts. She knows how to work with all fabrics to have everything look custom-made for you. Today, she charged me a total of $18 for hemming 2 pairs of pants, paid on pick-up. When pick-up day arrives, I suggest calling before leaving for her place to make sure your order's ready. One time, she stayed a little later than her business hours to accommodate me. For my brother, Irene has shortened sleeves on long-sleeved dress shirts, fitted suits, hemmed pants, and replaced a bag zipper. Went here for the first time this past weekend and boy was I more then happy I chose this local tailor. They were able to find out that the suit I had bought was defective and let me know asap and I was able to get a new one that same day. Along with their quick services of same day tailoring. If I can give zero stars I would! We have used their services in the past, three prom dresses and we never had an issue in the past six years, but this time we left a prom dress, with a specific pickup date. My daughter went and was Told that the dress was not done to come back and pick it up the next day at three! The next day was the prom!!! I called to ensure that the dress would be ready by noon. And had the rudest experience! I simply asked if I may k is why it was not ready? I was told, " we have a lot of dresses, if you not happy just pick up the dress and go somewhere else"! Yes they really said that! I simple said I'm a very co gained manner that they were ridiculous because the prom was today and they uf three weeks to alter it and thy is not a proper way to run a business! I have had several items tailored by Irene and I have been extremely satisfied with each. 2 pairs of pants hemmed and shortened (one tapered). 1 suit coat fitted. The service was professional, fast, very well done, and very reasonably priced. A pair of pants shortened and a suit jacket fitted only cost $45.00. We needed a jacket and pants tailored and stopped in on a Saturday. While doing the fitting, we told her they needed to be shorted and tapered - she disagreed and said the pants were fine but she could shorten it for us if we "really" wanted. Ultimately, we decided not to have her alter the pants. We left the jacket with her which needed to be fitted on the back and sleeves. We were quoted for $60 which we found reasonable to be ready the following Friday. Friday comes, I call confirming the pick up. She tells me on the phone that she doesn't know what jacket I'm talking about and that she could not find it. She says she'll look for it and call me back. Half an hour later, she calls back asking if we can pick it up later in the day after 5pm because they didn't even touch it. I read reviews saying that they have forgotten items and didn't touch it until they were reminded. I still chose to come because of all the positive feedback on their work. They have terrible customer service and make you feel like they're doing you a favor. Listen to the bad reviews! read more

This was the worst experience I've had with a tailor. On the recommendation of my brother, who had a great experience with her, we dropped off 4 items (1 skirt, 1 dress, 2 blouses) for MY SISTER'S wedding to be tailored, told her when the wedding was, and agreed upon a date for the items to be picked up (which was within a week of the wedding). She said call the day of before coming to pick up the items. So I called in the morning, was told to come in the evening (which means the items clearly weren't done). I show up in the evening, and they're working on one blouse still (which really only needed minor alterations), one blouse is done, the skirt needs to be steamed still, and they full admit that they forgot about the dress. And she has the audacity to say why didn't you remind me 2 days before, and argues with me as if it is my fault that the items aren't done. I argued back and she still insisted it was our fault we didn't call her to remind her to do the work we are paying for. And when I tried to explain that other businesses and professions don't run like that, that you shouldn't need a reminder to do the work a customer is paying for, she decides she'll give me a life lesson about how I'll mistakes in my life and will need people to help me remember things as well (to which I said I know the meaning of responsibility so no I won't). In the end, we paid for the items that were done and took the unfinished dress back and it was only then that I received a insincere "sorry" from her. I took the unfinished dress to another tailor who got it done overnight Saturday for me (which she refused to do) for a fraction of the price. I should have seen this coming since the day I brought her the items there was another customer in there with the same issue (her daughter's prom dress wasn't done on the agreed upon date and she told them they had to call before coming). It's clear everything is done last minute and they act as if they're under no obligation to do their work unless you remind them. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ITEMS HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE TIME TO CHASE AFTER THEM. read more

I went to this new place bc of the reviews and was not disappointment. They turned my $40 dress into a dress that looks as if I spent $200. I am very happy with the work that was done with the dress and happy with the service.I can't wait to wear it!! It is a cash only business, but there is an ATM next door. So I took my suit for work to be dry cleaned and was asked how soon I needed it back. I told her just as soon as possible, but there wasn't a huge rush. I had brought in my suit because I have two dogs and it had been covered in dog hair. This was on a Tuesday and I was told it would be ready by Thursday. So I show up on Friday to pick it up and I notice that my suit is hung up in a different area then the others that appear to have been dry cleaned which are surrounded in plastic. The lady grabs my suit in the back where I can clearly see her and uses a lent roller to get the dog hair off which took her about 5 minutes. Then she wraps it in plastic and charges me full price. When I get home and remove the plastic there is still a lot of dog hair on my suit and where I had a couple small stains they hadn't been touched. Morale of the story they had three days and didn't even attempt to clean my suit all while charging me for a full service. All I needed to see I will never use them again and felt compelled to share this review for those that might be "duped" by the reviews. In the past decade of dry cleaning I have never encountered this before. This was my first and only time to use them. read more

I have used Irene's a lot through the years. Recently I was charged $200 to split and hem already made, lined and pleated drapes. Needless to say my jaw dropped upon hearing the price. Out of curiosity I went to a shop that makes drapes. To do all of the work from scratch would cost me $75 per panel, excluding material. When questioned about cost Irene was quite unpleasant and asked," New drapes? At that price? From where? China." I was not only upset about her price,but now offended by her attitude.
