    1/4 Jerk Chicken

We were so happy to come across this Jamaican gem next to our Pocono resort. Not sure about you guys but I prefer to eat local food outside the resort this place did not disappoint! The jerk chicken was flavorful (chefs kiss), spicy without making you sweat, Rasta pasta cooked to order (it has a kick so don't be surprised). The rice and bean & curry chicken another slam dunk! You eat your food while reggae videos play in the backyard on tv. It's either dine in or take out. We chose to sit down and enjoy the island vibes :) Will definitely stop by next time in town. Thank you Irie Reggae Grill.

    Jerk chicken, plantains and mayo

While in town for work, I was craving some plantains and was greatly surprised when I found IRie Reggae Grill in close proximity to my hotel. I then opted for take out. Upon arriving, I was greeted by one of the staff member who assisted me with my order. She advised me on the large portion of food that would filling and tasty for dinner. I ordered a medium size of Jerk chicken with a side of plantains. She also went out of her way to ensure I had side of mayo for my meal. The food did not disapoint. Very tasty and large portion as promised. Check them out!

Not rice and peas and no coconut flavor.

I didn't like the experience at all. The food didn't have the Jamaican taste to me! Being from New York I definitely know the flavors of Jamaican food. I had to wait 45 minutes for some coconut curry shrimp( that taste nothing like coconut) rice and peas that was spanish rice and beans, roti, hard plantains and curry shrimp( that they forgot to add to my order) so I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for that as well. I would never go back there when I'm in that part of town!!

    Delicious beef pattie

My husband and I decided to stop here prior to heading home. We are happy we decided to stop here . We placed an order over the phone for some beef patties, and wow, we can tell they were definitely homemade. The prices were good as well, I think it was $3.00 for one of them. We can't wait to go back and try the red of their food. If you haven't stopped here, I highly recommend stopping and checking them out . It's worth it.

Picked up some patties, heading back later for jerk chicken and Mac 'n' cheese. Also the Medina. Yeah the Medina. Will update later.

On our way back to Philly from the poconos I decided to stop and try this Caribbean restaurant on the side of the road. I was curious to try because of the location and I love Jamaican food !The food was pretty tasty but I don't think it was worth the $30 that I paid for it. Oh and the place was very clean .

Even though my home is located in one of the most heavily populated counties in New Jersey, there are no quality Caribbean or Filipino restaurants for MANY miles. So, I was very surprised to find one in rural Pennsylvania. Tropical Flare is a small place with just a few tables inside, but it was busy with pickups late on a Tuesday afternoon. A Ziggy Marley concert was playing on the wall mounted TV. One of my favorite Caribbean dishes is roti with curried goat. Roti was not on the menu, but I was planning on getting the goat. Thank goodness my wife asked if they had any roti because they had one for me! Absolutely delicious with friendly and fast service. THANKS TROPICAL FLARE!!!

How nice to travel to find a little piece of familiar culture!…read more I didn't expect to have a mind blowing experience. Opted for the oxtail because (go big or go home!) I felt it would be a good baseline by which to judge their skills. I think it was an excellent dish because the meat was tender, flavorful and light. Delightful. I definitely know they cook their own rice and peas fresh. So that winner and their appetizers are great and I definitely recommend them if you want something other than the local fare. As for their customer service, it's like a typical Caribbean spot. Service may seem surly but it is what it is. I will definitely be back!

So I'm going to start with the negative. If you call the phone number, no one will answer but you…read morewill very shortly after get a text message with the menu and a "how can I help you". Seemed super awesome at first right..... yes for the first 5 minutes. After that it become a very tedious and annoying process of 30 min of back and forth texting that could easily be handled in a 5 minute phone conversation. This method of ordering is not the best way to conduct business in my opinion. Then if/when you go to the location, there is only a door that is closed with a window on top. It instructs you not to bang, to text, and to have a mask on. Okayyyyy. There's also a chalkboard menu outside the door. Half the things on the menu, once texted to ordered, you will be told is unavailable. So what's the point of the menu. Also, you get no pricing. Even if you ask unless you press for the price and ask multiple times, you will not get it. So your total will be a surprise when you go to pay...and trust it will likely be a surprise with how expensive it is. When you finally get a text that your food is ready, your card will be taken from you, your food bag shoved at you, and very little words if any exchanged. But your food bags will be heavy. NOW THE FOOD. As a Jamaican myself, the food was delicious. The portions are ginormous, so think about sharing. We ordered the stew snapper and jerk salmon. Each comes with rice and peas (which is 3/4 of the container), steamed veg, and plantain. A large Mac and cheese will be the entire container. So unless you need to feed 3-4, don't get a large. The rice and peas is good. Flavorful and clearly done with coconut and pimento seeds... how it should be. The jerk salmon looked burnt and dry but surprisingly was not in the least. The veg was delicious and I could eat a side of that alone. The macaroni and cheese was perfectly cheesy and seasoned. The food itself might be why people put up with the terrible ordering system and lack luster customer service.

We started off with the fried pickles that were the perfect combination of crunchy and tasty. The best fried pickles I've had because the batter was seasoned and the pickles were cooked yet still crunchy. They created a sorrel type dipping sauce that was absolutely out of this world. What drew me to this was the smoked brisket sandwich. The brisket was flavorful and literally melted in your mouth. It was topped with melted cheese and a mango habanero chutney that was out of this world. The flavor profile of this dish was exquisite. My husband did a make your own meal, which included two meats and two sides. He opted for the jerk chicken an ribs with a side of Caribbean rice and fried plantain. He really enjoyed the cook on the meats. I can't wait to come back and try their Mac and cheese.

The food is cooked fresh so we knew about the wait time and were fine with that (30 minutes for the red snapper -3 pounder!). The owner who was taking our order gave us a sample of the Legumes with beef to try while we decided on the menu items. It was delicious so we ordered that. She also told us which items they still had available (no curried items). In the end, we chose Legumes, Conch, Fried Red Snapper, Fried Pork, and Stewed Goat. These all came with a rice (choice of white, rice &beans or black rice) and 2 fried green plantains. She came with a huge bowl of fresh salad that had mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and apples. The dressings were Caesar and Avocado Ranch. Everyone thought all the food was delicious and left so full -- we packed a bunch of rice, plantains and fish since we couldn't finish and wanted it for another meal. She also gave us extra hot pickled veggies (can't remember the name) for our take home stuff. All this was worth the wait for sure. So happy they're still open and in the area. We ended up finishing our meal after closing, but they didn't seem to mind. Such a lovely couple.
