As a Jamaican-born person who knows how to cook and truly appreciates good food, I have to say this place was mediocre at best. The food is overpriced for the portion sizes and overall quality, and the service was just average. Most disappointing of all, the flavor was lacking. I have been to a bunch of Caribbean restaurants and spots where they sell Caribbean foods from New York to Bahamas to Jamaica and plenty of places here on the East Coast. This by far does not succeed well Caribbean food is the people are so so the food is not that great not worth the drive . Is on the Caribbean spot where I've been to where they give you any one piece of plantain with a plate of oxtails and rice the oxtails tonight that's right before I'll cook tender enough and for the price. If they added more plantings to them orders better customer service a little bit more flavor it'd be worth to drive but as of now I would recommend it. read more

We were so happy to come across this Jamaican gem next to our Pocono resort. Not sure about you guys but I prefer to eat local food outside the resort this place did not disappoint! The jerk chicken was flavorful (chefs kiss), spicy without making you sweat, Rasta pasta cooked to order (it has a kick so don't be surprised). The rice and bean & curry chicken another slam dunk! You eat your food while reggae videos play in the backyard on tv. It's either dine in or take out. We chose to sit down and enjoy the island vibes :) Will definitely stop by next time in town. Yum! Yum! Yum! What's with the 3.5 stars, this restaurant deserves a 5. I'm a tough act to please. Believe me, the food was fire! I'm speaking as the daughter of a Jamaican mom who cooked GOOD. I also can cook so I have to admit they outdo me and my mother (Forgive me mom). I had the ackee and salt fish, for those who know, it's the Jamaican national dish, and it was perfectly spiced. The patties, both beef and ackee, were flavorful and tasted from scratch. The coco bread fresh baked. I can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu. While in town for work, I was craving some plantains and was greatly surprised when I found IRie Reggae Grill in close proximity to my hotel. I then opted for take out. Upon arriving, I was greeted by one of the staff member who assisted me with my order. She advised me on the large portion of food that would filling and tasty for dinner. I ordered a medium size of Jerk chicken with a side of plantains. She also went out of her way to ensure I had side of mayo for my meal. The food did not disapoint. I didn't like the experience at all. The food didn't have the Jamaican taste to me! Being from New York I definitely know the flavors of Jamaican food. I had to wait 45 minutes for some coconut curry shrimp( that taste nothing like coconut) rice and peas that was spanish rice and beans, roti, hard plantains and curry shrimp( that they forgot to add to my order) so I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for that as well. We placed an order over the phone for some beef patties, and wow, we can tell they were definitely homemade. The prices were good as well, I think it was $3.00 for one of them. Even though my home is located in one of the most heavily populated counties in New Jersey, there are no quality Caribbean or Filipino restaurants for MANY miles. So, I was very surprised to find one in rural Pennsylvania. Tropical Flare is a small place with just a few tables inside, but it was busy with pickups late on a Tuesday afternoon. A Ziggy Marley concert was playing on the wall mounted TV. One of my favorite Caribbean dishes is roti with curried goat. Roti was not on the menu, but I was planning on getting the goat. Thank goodness my wife asked if they had any roti because they had one for me! Absolutely delicious with friendly and fast service. THANKS TROPICAL FLARE!!! read more

i ordered a large oxtail and rice and cabbage and a side of Mac and cheese , the oxtail was so tuff and only gave me 4 small oxtails a scoop of cabbage and the Mac had only 2 scoops in it not worth 6.95 and the large patter was more like a small , I spend almost $43 for nothing I will not be coming back read more

I had the pleasure of eating here with my partner, we ordered the oxtail and jerked chicken dishes. The oxtail, paired with the rice, steamed veggies and sweet plantain was fantastic, I was very pleased with the serving size. The Jerk Chicken was sooo good! The depth of flavor of the perfectly tender chicken was excellent. There was only one person working when we ordered the food, we were served promptly and the lady working was very friendly. Personally I would disregard the comment about the location of the restaurant being in a "weird" spot. Although the accommodations of dining inside of tropical flare aren't perfect, it is clean. I wouldn't look at any food business and think let the location determine the quality of the food, some of the best spots are little ma and pa shops that can't afford the luxury of a large brick and mortar restaurant. I dropped by Tropical Flare supper time on a weekend. I dreaded eating in my car, so I was relieved to see that they had a 2 person table right on the porch. They're in Satto Sushi's olde spot, but they've done a lot of work to make things safer for the pandemic. These are the most patient and kind people I've ever come across. The woman behind me was the pickiest customer that could plague any small business. First she whinged that they were moving to slow, even though they had served everyone else. Then she griped that their prices were too high. Clearly she hasn't been to the grocery store in the last 20 years. After that, she complained about their packaging her 6, count them 6, bottles of ginger beer wrong. They had bagged and rebagged these for her at least 3 times. They are glass bottles. They will clink. Now for the food! This place is hands down better than their competition down the road. I can write a novel about their rice. Their rice is just the right level of firmness. It's a nice al dente. I've had the competition's soggy interpretation, and I do not miss it. I've also had other restaurants' hard as rocks rice. Nope, just right. On top of being the right temperature, it's very well seasoned. I didn't feel like there was so much salt I'd go into cardiac arrest, nor did I feel like I was eating bland white rice. It was visibly speckled with nice Caribbean spices. Don't worry, there's PLENTY of rice. I feel like I could have fed a family of 5 with the number of scoops they crammed into my to go container. They did hold back just a touch on the vegetables, but I tend to think this decision is based on the neighbourhood. Most folks in this part of the country frankly don't touch anything green or orange, so they're probably right on their portion size. The cabbage and carrots mine came with would make any doctor happy. A great surprise to my jerk chicken plate was the addition of a couple of sweet plantains. They were sheer perfection. They gave me a very generous half chicken. I was only expecting a leg and thigh or a wing and breast at this price point. Shockingly, the wing was the best part. I feel like the rest of the bird could have done with about another hour or hour and a half very low and very slow to break up the last of the collagen. The rub that they used had a great depth to it and penetrated the first bit of the bird. If they decided to overnight things in the rub, I bet that the spice would sink through even further. I am not a sauce person, but the house has this down. There is definitely a nice kick to it, but it isn't pure heat. The chef gives a damn. About half way through my meal, they noticed that I was seated outside and checked on me. He waited to hear what I had to say - which was all good - and then he came back again a few minutes later. My meal was only about $15 for a ginger beer, jerk chicken plate, and tax. They're new, so their processing system isn't the super square kind that lets you add a tip. If that's not changed the next time I eat here, I need to remember to bring cash for their well deserved service. There are roosters in their parking lot! This is my first time buying Jamaican food in PA and I absolutely loved it. I ordered jerk chicken,rasta pasta, with a side of rice and peas. The jerk chicken was grilled to perfection and the jerk sauce had the right amount of spice. I love that the rasta pasta wasn't too soupy it was flavorful and simply very delicious. This place has the absolute BEST shrimp curry I have ever tasted. Coming from a native New Yorker, that is a rave. Also, my wife, who is Jamaican, loved the oxtail with rice and peas. They should just call it Salted Blackened Pork. I don't think there is anything that would compel me to give this place a 2nd chance. It is also in a weird strip mall storefront where a group of live huge roosters/chickens were blocking the entrance to the restaurant. WTF?!?! The cashier at the front was also painfully slow. There might have been 3 people tops ahead of me, but I did not even get to pick up my call ahead order until an half-hour after I stepped in.
