La Parada is a medium sized Dominican restaurant with a wide variety of prepared foods in warmers, and even more menu items available upon order. We saw rotisserie chicken, beef stew, and pork ribs (among others) being kept warm at the counter... But the dish we chose was the PERNIL with yellow rice and beans. A home-made beef empanada would accompany that. The empanada was good (albeit a bit light on the filling), the yellow rice and beans were great, and the Pernil was phenomenal. One of the items they offer is mofongo! They said that requires 20 minutes to prepare, and we couldn't wait... But next time!!! read more

Amazing local Dominican spot in the Poconos. We stopped off after a day indulging in winter sports. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the portion sizes were generous. There was a good amount of variety on the menu, and the food was flavorful as expected. We found a hidden gem in the Poconos and we are happy to return when we are in the area. read more

I was just driving back to the hotel with my family when I happened to see this restaurant from the road. We were excited to see a Spanish restaurant in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food was so flavorful and delicious. We had alcapurrias, empanadas, pernil with yellow rice and the chicken with rice. The coffee was excellent too. This spot is really good. There really aren't many Spanish spots in the poconos but this place makes up for that. However every time I get empanadas from them they never pack the meat. It's like your just eating the fried discs. Besides that being my only complaint they serve good food. read more

Great value! We stayed at Camelback resort and we decided to look for some authentic local food. We arrived at 5pm and ordered 2 plates (beef stew w/yellow rice, pork stew w/ white rice), 1 bottle of drink, a small bowl of bean soup, the total was $24. Had the pernil, pollo guisado, pepper steak, rice, beans, tostones at around noon on a March Sunday. Everything was fresh, homemade, and wonderful. Dominican is one of my favorite cuisines, and I was not disappointed. The area has the good fortune of many Dominican restaurants, so the standard must be high. A few of the usual menu items weren't available, but it made it easier to decide what to get. The owner was so warm and welcoming. They give large portions and the food is tasty. Unfortunately the tres leches was spoiled, so I can't comment on the dessert. Can't complain about the food. Delicious... filling... cooked well. However prices are questionable. Paid $42 for rice/beans/fried chicken chunks/2 small bottles of soda/side of yuca/beefsteak with rice. Chicken was 12 and white rice was 10 bucks.... (white rice-$10) beefsteak over rice was 11... basically I think prices came from the clouds. But seeing as there were no prices to be found anywhere it is what it is. We were so excited to finally find a restaurant that serves Latin food in the area. Little did we know the disappointment we were setting ourselves up for. The food was cold, the waitress was rude, got the order wrong several times and when it was time to pay she was trying to charge us for an extra plate of food that we didn't even order. To go into more detail, the drinks arrived when we were getting ready to leave. We were a party of 6, 4 of us received our partial orders half way through the other two dishes were brought in (after we asked where was the rest of our food). The beans had the smell of leftover beans that have gone bad, the meat was cold and tasted like liver because it was so over cooked. The only thing that actually tasted good was the rice. The prices are not posted on the menu so I'm guessing they charge as they please. Either way, never again! read more

Found this place while in the Poconos and trying to find some spanish/carribean food. Coming from a Dominican culture, I am defiantly a harsh critic on Dominican restaurant food, but this place definitely surprised me. Authentic food, clean and very tasty. And to make it even better, they actually served us although we arrived right when they were closing. We explained to them that we had arrived late and wasn't having much luck finding another open Spanish restaurant and they did not hesitate to serve us and without any rush. My brother also loved it.
