The theater itself is comfortable, though nothing special. As it was a hot day, I was happy the space was adequately air conditioned. My singleton seat was in the front row! Note that folks with mobility problems may have issues. There are stairs. The stairway leading to the two-stall bathroom on the second floor is steep. One can tell it's an old building, with few if any upgrades in its 100+ years of existence.

The show was in Stage I; we sat in the very last row, Row M, seats 101 & 102 and I can honestly say they were great seats. Save some money and rest assured you'll still have a great view of the show. Theater and stages are accessible by stairs and an elevator. I look forward to returning to see other off-Broadway and varied shows here. Street parking is available.

Some of my favorite theater experiences have been from their Encores series, including their gala productions where brilliant casts come together with about 1-2 weeks of rehearsal to perform Broadway concert style productions, complete with a full orchestra, staging, choreography and costumes. The shorter engagements allow actors to appear in shows that might fit in between other long term contracts, with tv, film, or concerts. Some Encores I've seen: La Cage aux Folles, Urinetown, Light in the Piazza, Oliver!, Into the Woods, Parade, Sunday in the Park, Evita, Brigadoon, Merrily We Roll Along, etc. Productions like Chicago, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park, Parade, Once Upon a Mattress and Ragtime have had successful Broadway transfers from City Center. Their mission: To be an accessible and inclusive center for the arts, reflecting the energy of New York City. Encores was designed to preserve the legacy of American musical theater. Note that acoustics can be tricky depending on where you sit.

But then when the opportunity came up again, it really caught my interest several months later. More so when it received Tony Award winnings. Earlier this past June, I finally had made plans on watching it and I was wondering if maybe Lottery or Rush tickets were available. To my surprise, tickets were available in Center Orchestra at very good price! Gerald Schoenfeld Theater is right in the middle of Times Square Theatre District just next door to Junior's Restaurant on 45th Street between 8th & 9th Avenues. There is free WiFi. Concession stand is either on the main floor or downstairs. Extremely clean and sanitary restroom facilities. Most importantly, lots and lots of security inside and outside before entering the theater provided by NYPD.

I admit, i was extremely skeptical and only went out of frustration with trying to get tickets in central park. This is the second year that the Classical Theatre of Harlem is putting on Shakespeare in Marcus Garvey Park (quick walk from both the 4/5/6 and the 2/3). Much like the Central Park version, this is also a free play, and this year they are showing Romeo and Juliet (Unlike the Central Park version, I was able to get there 20 minutes early and get a good seat). To say it exceeded my expectations is a HUGE understatement. I like Shakespeare, but sometimes have a tough time following the plot with the shakespearian language. Never have I heard the words spoken so strongly. The actors had a way or speaking/acting that made each word breathtakingly real and powerful. I have seen Romeo and Juliet before, but I have never seen it with such passion, and it has never felt so real. I left in awe, happy I didn't get tickets to Much Ado. Do yourself a favor and check this out. Hopefully it will be a new Harlem tradition that comes back every year. Romeo and Juliet runs through 7/27.

The lead actors, Romeo and Juliet were very convincing in showing their young love and the dilemmas and challenges with their families. I was quite touched and got goosebumps and felt sad when they died. :( The fight scenes were really intense especially the scene with Juliet and her father. The actor who played Juliet's father did such a great job in expressing the emotions of the character. It was great to have the ensemble dance during the transitions and when the set had to be moved around. It was a welcomed distraction and flowed very well with the show. The last scene with the three dancers in white clothing during Romeo and Juliet's death was paired so fantastically. It created an interpretive movement aspect to the scene and added a lot of depth and it was just really pretty to watch. I enjoyed the choice of music especially with some of Lauryn Hill and Tupac's music. I would highly recommend watching this play without reservations. It is free! Great and diverse actors, diverse audience, and located at the Marcus Garvey Park on a nice summer evening.
