I first heard about Toby Mott's Punk Troubles, Northern Ireland from a coworker. He had received the email for the show and thought of me. And from the email it was a very nicely curated punk scene on Northern Ireland during the late seventies. I found it right up my alley. The show is only up until October 13, 2017. Not much time left. I ran up there during lunch on Monday. I'm happy the flyer was akin a stand outside or else I might've gotten lost. It looks like a fancy private home. I just buzzed and said "I'm here for the exhibit". I got buzzed in. The front entrance is grab with marble and a giant table. Sophie from the organization greeted me and told me the exhibit was on the third floor. It was cool to see original show flyer, political hand made textiles, photography and news articles. The Undetones being a icon Irish punk band were in the exhibit. And other band like Protex and well known Stiff Little Fingers. That's when Sophie mentioned the event the next day with the bassist of SLF Ali McMordie and the singer of Black 47. I came the next day with a friend and was greeted like an old friend. The space is stunning. My friend enjoyed the punk rock exhibit. And we nibbled of some cheese and crackers while sipping some wine. The guests of honor ended up canceling. But there was still a discussion of the punk times in Ireland. It was interesting. If you get on their mailing list you will make sure not to miss out on any events. They have an upcoming stand comedy event.

I figured I would just go that once and never again, but I had such a good time that I will be looking for upcoming events at this venue. The venue itself is very small and intimate, better for small groups and events than large ones. The menu created by the literary supper club was fantastic and the food itself was something you'd expect from a high end restaurant. The location of Court Tree itself was nice, the atmosphere was great and the type of thing that I can only imagine existing in Brooklyn. I plan on coming back whenever there is an event that piques my interest.

Otherwise, I would have never learned about this place, despite the fact that's it's really close to where I live and I've unknowingly walked past it countless times. See, advertising works! I happened to see a flyer posted for a supper club dinner at Court Tree. Intrigued, I ended up attending and had a wonderful time. The supper club is literary themed, which warms this bookworm's heart. The space is small, pretty much a single floor in a brownstone, but just cozy enough for small events. They have a diverse lineup of food, art, music, and theatre events. I'm definitely planning to check out more events now that I've discovered this place.

I visited the outside 9/11 memorial in October 2018. It's a nice way to pay tribute to the…read morethousands that died on September 11, 2001. While September 11, 2001 was a tragic day for the USA, this memorial brings some peace. I was specifically at the North Tower Reflecting Pool which is where the North Tower once stood before the building collapsed. My friend and I looked down at the water rushing in and felt a sense of calm. The waterfall effect of the water entering the North Tower pool helps to drown out the noise of people walking by. Our docent brought the history of the house to life with stories of the family that built the house…read more(Tories who fled as the Colonists approached), subsequent families who owned and lost the house, its fall into disrepair, its use as an ice cream stand and then the Museum of the City of New York, and finally the role Robert Moses played to convince Mayor LaGuardia to convert the Mansion into the official residence of the Mayor of New York. What followed were antidotes about each of the Mayors who lived in the Mansion, starting with LaGuardia's reluctance to live in the house due to his fear of ghosts, stories of restorations initiated by Mayors, and a chance to view the current Mayors decorative choices. Much more interesting when heard live, in the residence, when presented by a truly outstanding docent. (You will also learn why all eagles in the house have a ball & chain wrapped around their necks) A very good, very enjoyable, very worthwhile visit. Highly recommended.

I took the House & Studio Tour this past Friday and was really blown away by the experience. I…read moregraduated from NYU about 15 years ago and may have walked past this building hundreds of times and never noticed it. I'm so glad I learned about it and visited this past weekend! So what is it? Chaim Gross was a modern American sculpture who immigrated to New York in 1921 and spent his life creating sculptures in wood and other materials for the next 70 years (he passed in 1991). In 1963, he and his family moved to this building, which served as their home and his studio. Now, you can tour the buiding, both his studio space (which has an incredible amount of his work) and a level that served as their home (which contains the art of many of his famous and talented friends and family). The tours are about an hour and very personal (they're kept small). Harriett was my guide on Friday, and she was wonderful - so informative and passionate and lovely. This is an incredible space. To learn about an artist and his work in the place where he created it was very special. If you're interested in art, artists, or sculpture, this is a must do tour. A real NYC treat.

To use a cliche phrase, this place, located in the East Village, really is a hidden gem! The…read moreformer residence of renowned sculptor, Chaim Gross, and his wife, Renee, this museum of sorts offers three floors of amazing art and antique/vintage furnishings. The first floor boasts Chaim's studio, which still has unfinished works on view. You can see his tools and his workspace as he kept it. The first floor also shows off a plethora of his impressive, beautiful, ethereal wooden sculpture work. Brittany, my guide, taught me so much about the work, the tools, and the type of wood/mediums Chaim used. The second floor is used as a gallery space for rotating exhibitions. The exhibition on view when I went revolves around immigrant art. Most of the art belonged to the Gross family, as they were major collectors. Such haunting, thought provoking pieces. The third floor is maintained as the Gross family had it during their residency--the kitchen, living room, dining room. Full of Chaim and Renee's favorite personal pieces, including an expansive African art collection. Brittany did a great job of painting a vivid picture of their life as social, well connected artists in the east village. Tours are 15 dollars per person and given on limited days and times. You can visit their website for specifics. Worth a visit, with some amazing art--some better and more interesting than the pieces found in the MET, the Whitney, or MoMa.

The afro-cuban live performance by Dizzy Gillespie was awesome. We both really enjoyed the poetry reading by Jesus Papoleto Melendez. It is a great place for contemporary artists to develop and showcase new site-specific work.

There are few productions that allow us to lose ourselves. Laughter, tears, dancing... I loved every minute of it. I knew no one upon arrival but felt as if the cast members were old friends by the time the show ended.
