    Fudge to die for!

We stayed here for 5 days in the room with a view. It was really nice and the view over the bay is awesome. Don't miss the super delicious breakfast or the great cakes and treats. So even if you just on the way through witless bay take your time and eat one of the delicious cakes!

This is for people that like well prepared food that is satisfying and delicious without being over the top. The dishes we had reminded us of our favorite restaurants in Portland Oregon in the 1990s. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and worth traveling to. The oysters were so fresh. The pickled white asparagus addictive. The cod tongues so light. My pesto pasta much less heavy than most versions. Great service and killer bread pudding. If I lived in the area, I'd eat here weekly.

After a long day of driving around the south end of the Avalon peninsula, needed to stop for sustenance on our return to St. John's. Cocktails were fresh and fabulous with local flair. We opted for a tapas style dinner from the appetizer menu. Oysters were fresh and delicate, with specially prepared dressings, salted cod fritters were light, creamy and melt in your mouth. The peach and tomato, prosciutto, buttermilk, with chimichurri salad was a fresh and original option. The scallops were served in a creamy but light corn chowder like sauce, and were perfectly cooked. Save room for dessert, especially if the brown sugar cake with brûléd banana and caramelized hazelnut is on the menu. So much flavour ! High end quality in a bright , relaxed setting with a beautiful view.

Can't say enough about the space itself - bright, airy, full of healthy green plants, lots of light, comfortable seating (and lots of it!). The menu is consistently great, with just enough choice to give everyone something to choose from. They have great little cakes, cookies and other delights. BUT... went for dinner last night. Stunning! Flavours, presentation of items were a complete surprise for a place that's known to be casual. We were so curious, that we ordered one of everything on the menu! Locally sourced foods = different menus all the time. Last night, a citrus-y carrot salad with raisins/goat cheese/pumpkin seeds, scallop crudo with salted gooseberries and chili oil, buttered turnips with braised pork, fried chicken with a house made hot sauce, and finally, a squash risotto. The date sponge cake with caramel mousse, bourbon pear and burnt caramel for dessert (split between the group) was a perfect end to the evening. In all of this, the only flaw was the lack of an espresso machine to cap off a beautiful meal. Flavours on all items were well balanced, complex and really enjoyable, the portion sizes were exactly what they should be. A wonderful addition to the St. John's foodie scene that I truly hope keeps going. Will definitely be going back, and hope others will do the same. Should also note that they had only one white and one red - but two New Zealand wines (one pinot noir and one sauvignon blanc) that were perfectly paired with the menu. Well done!

For two, plan on paying over 50 dollars for breakfast! If paying that much, you would think there would be at least someone refilling your coffee mugs, but even that you have to get up and request a refill! The Grounds breakfast costs 24 dollars, but over easy eggs were not, the muffin roll was over done on the bottom, and the bacon was under cooked and off tasting! The quiche had a nice crust, but lacked flavor, basically no flavor! Their pastry looked fresh and delicious! It and their coffee were the highlight of the meal! I had the lemon bar and the dark coffee! The atmosphere was okay, nothing special! I can't recommend it to others! (Red flag: paid for meal with requested tip prompt before receiving it)
