I've only been here maybe once or twice but I thought it was very good. Food was tasty and staff were very friendly.

Mother's Day 2025 We…read morehad a reservation for 12:30 and were shown to our table on time. We ordered from the menu, a number of specials were available. Our food arrived at 2:18. NOT ACCEPTABLE. No explanation provided. It's a shame really because is a lovely place. I should add that this was not the first visit but it was the last. Previous visits were better but only marginally. The service isn't great and the food isn't worth waiting for. However, they do have a good selection of beer.

Road trip to Carbonear today!…read more The Stone Jug is perfectly situated on Water Street overlooking ... the beautiful water. The Stone Jug has so much history and character. Windows and doors wide open you feel the fresh air off the water. Couldn't ask for a more perfect way to spend the afternoon or evening with friends or family over a drink +/- food. Despite the pub fare focused menu I threw caution to the wind and ordered the vegetarian pizza and it didn't disappoint. Good size for 2 people, light, airy, yet chewy crust (?wood fire oven) and full of flavour. Paired with a Mill Street Organic Lager and you've got a great Saturday evening meal. Our waitress was fantastic! Super warm and friendly. Made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. I give The Stone Jug 4/5 stars only because they do not have many "vegetarian options" on their menu (fish & chips, salad, and veg pizza) AND the building is not easily accessible to folks with mobility challenges; there is no wheelchair ramp.

This was by far the worst restaurant meal we have had in many years. We came at 2 in the afternoon,…read moreand it was full, so we were asked to wait outside. Seated in about 30 minutes. Uninviting ambiance, and unfriendly servers. Everyone we have met in our three visits to Newfoundland has been helpful, friendly and warm. Not here. The servers acted like they wished everyone would go home. None of that would have mattered if the food was decent. We ordered the turkey soup which we presumed was homemade and would be a hearty lunch. I am pretty sure the soup was canned Campbell's vegetable soup, although it was even more tasteless. The vegetables were clearly from canned soup-tiny tasteless cubes of carrots and shreds of tasteless onion. The noodles were from a package of Lipton's chicken noodle soup-tiny threads of noodles. And maybe1/8 of a cup of turkey. It was inedible, and cost $8.95. We were asked if we wanted homemade bread, and were charged $1.50 for a slice of white bread with a ton of margarine spread on top. Also tasteless. I left very hungry and ate cookies out of my car for lunch. Unpleasant from start to finish, and I felt totally ripped off by the price and quality. If you can't make homemade soup, don't put it on the menu. An awful experience.

This is by far the best breakfast place around. The cook and staff are friendly, kind and…read more inviting. Love the ambiance of the good old newfoundland kitchen. It's like walking into a family home and sitting down for a good home-cooked meal. The hardest part of moving away from the area was knowing I would miss out in my Saturday ward special and my sons French toast and sausage. Miss you guys and see this summer.
