Calabrese Home Improvement completely renovated two bathrooms in my 1977 home. All of the original fixtures were removed and the subfloor was replaced and leveled. The tub in the master was converted into a walk-in shower. New electrical and ventilation were added. The owner Justin was great to work with, communicated almost daily, and stopped by the house frequently to check on the progress of the work and answer any questions or concerns I had. Selvin the team lead is a true craftsman, knows his stuff, and clearly takes pride in the quality of his work. Others on the team worked equally hard and they have all been with Calabrese for at least 10 years. I was pleased to see the company take their time and do a quality job instead of a rushed one like you often see. They addressed each of my concerns and the results speak for themself. Good job on the basement, kitchen and side room. Some delays because it was a large renovation for the company and they did not work weekends and sometimes ended early. The quality of the selections for flooring, cabinetry, etc were very good. I think they work best with smaller renovations. They also do not do HVAC and so radiator systems and moving radiators need to be monitored. In my renovation, at least, they tended to easily discard things like overhead fans, small cabinets , doors with old antique doorknobs, that I would have liked to save and re-use. read more

I could not be more pleased. Justin could not be easier to work with or more responsive and accommodating. He closely monitors the crew's progress throughout a project. He and his team and team leader Selvin are reliable, hard-working, knowledgeable, skillful, punctual and friendly, and meticulous about maintaining a clean worksite. What really makes them outstanding, in my opinion, is their initiative. They take pride in their work and are proactive in identifying problems and issues that I, as the homeowner, might never notice. Unlike many contractors, they take personal responsibility for solving problems that, strictly speaking, may not be theirs to solve. On my latest project, when the work fell behind schedule for reasons outside their control, they worked on the weekend to get back on schedule. After installing bookcases, they volunteered to paint the floor heat registers to match. When framing obstacles made it difficult to move electrical outlets and internet cabling, they developed creative work-arounds. And when painting a sheetrock repair, they re-painted the entire wall to ensure a good color match. Working with these folks is a throwback to the days when selecting a home improvement partner was about more than a contract; it was about trust. Justin and Dago of Calabrese did an AMAZING job laying new flooring and refinishing the hardwoods in the main level of our home. I can say with 100% certainty that will will be hiring Calabrese for all home improvement projects. Strong attn to detail: Dago works with Justin and handled the install and floor refinishing. He and his team were amazing. They showed up by 9am each day and worked their tails off, staying until almost 6pm the first day b/c they were on a roll. The flew through everything but still maintained an incredible attn to detail. They repaired our old wood floors beautifully, filling gaps and feathering in to the new floors, and the entire time they were incredibly careful with taping off our house to control the dust. They even put an extra layer of plastic in a closet to protect our coats! Fast: Our entire living room had the carpet removed, hardwoods installed, and the rest of the main level refinished. This took all of two days. It was insane how efficient they were! Great Communication: Justin was stellar about touching base with us in the evenings whenever we had questions. He's available over the phone, email, or text, which is AWESOME. And he's very thorough in his replies. A lot of contractors will skip over questions or have confusing answers, but Justin was fantastic. I've said it once in this review, but we're absolutely hiring Calabrese again! We chose Calabrese Home Improvement to do a complete remodel of our home in 2018 and are thrilled with how everything turned out! This was a HUGE project that involved just about anything you can think of - knocking down walls, a bump-out extension on our top floor and finishing an attic space, a full kitchen gut/remodel, foundation repair, adding a bathroom and powder room, installing and refinishing hardwood floors, and re-plumbing and re-wiring the whole house. They did [nearly] a complete interior remodel on my home--3 baths, bedrooms, fireplaces, tons of custom woodwork/bookcases, wetbar, lighting/electrical, all flooring--even moved major plumbing and walls. The work was fantastic! Justin and his team were always responsive, did everything possible to stick with timeline---especially when the weather and materials caused us a few issues towards the end. But the best part of working with Justin was his compassion and fairness. He understands that he's working on your home, which can be scary. We used Justin and his team for a little bit of wall demolition, restoration of the original hardwood floors in our living room, and installation of matching hardwoods in the kitchen. After having this work done, I come home every day and feel giddy about how fabulous our floors look. I could not be happier with the quality of the refinishing, the attention to detail in the repairs, and the way the old floors match the newly installed ones. Our family members who have owned homes with hardwoods for many years are blown away by how good ours look. As for working with Justin, he is friendly, easy to talk to, and kept us in the loop during the project. He called us immediately when 2 minor issues arose, and he sent us pictures of the progress every night while we were out of the house. He strikes a good balance in being both professional and approachable. Our only minor quibble was with a couple of clean-up issues that could have been done more thoroughly before leaving the job - mainly, a bunch of large wood splinters that fell into our basement utility room from the kitchen above during the install and were not removed. No big deal for us to take care of, though, and in the context of how perfect the floors look, it doesn't detract from an overall excellent rating. Let me start the review with not only do we have a great contractor here for future work but, we made a good friend. Justin's "bedside manner" is awesome. He really made the whole experience of rebuilding our basement a lot less painful. So we had flooding in the basement and had to have it waterproofed and them rebuilt. Justin's crew came in and took care of the demolition of the basement so the waterproofers could do their thing. When that was complete we had the basement completely rewired and rebuilt adding a full bath on top of the rebuild with no previous rough in. He came in on time and on target with his price. We even added a few things and had some additional work due to poor color choices on our own part. Justin took them in stride and the finished product is awesome. We couldn't be happier and will recommend his company to anyone who asks for a suggestion. We even grabbed a stack of his cards to pass out! A+++ rating from me. read more

Justin, Luis, and the whole group at Calabrese are fantastic. I had a laundry list of work to do on my house to get it ready to sell, from painting to plumbing, and they did it all. Not only that, but they went above and beyond multiple times. For example, if touching up paint on a wall would look weird, they just painted the whole wall. If there was a problem, they went out of their way to fix it. Also, they're the most proactive contractors I've ever dealt with. In the past I've had to nag contractors just to do simple things like give me an estimate, but Justin was always on the ball. The work was done well and quickly, and they even worked weekends to help me get my house on the market as fast as possible. We used Calabrese Home Improvement to renovate our recently purchased rowhome in Alexandria. It was built in 1942, so there was quite a bit of work that needed to be done. We essentially gutted and rebuilt the entire interior by the time we were done -- and we absolutely could not have done it without the help of Justin Kennedy and his incredible team. It was an all-around amazing experience from start to finish, and we couldn't be more pleased with the end result. It all started off on the right foot from the very beginning. We interviewed several different contractors immediately after purchasing our home, and were very clear that we were looking to move forward quickly. All of them said they would get us estimates for our work with a quick turnaround. Out of all of them, Justin was the only one who actually stuck to his word and got us his estimate on time. We greatly appreciated the detailed, line-by-line estimate he provided us with (not everyone does that, we've learned!), and the reasonable and competitive pricing. Throw in the fact that he seemed like a genuinely great guy and a breeze to communicate with -- we were sold! Once it came time to actually get started on the work, Justin shined ever brighter. We were first-time homeowners and first-time renovators, so all of this was very new to us -- but Justin was fantastic in helping us make tough decisions. He would give us all the information and options we wanted and even give his opinion (but only when we asked!), but he was never rude, overpowering or dismissive like other contractors. He genuinely wanted us to be happy with outcome, and he wanted to help us make the decision that we felt was right for us. I am exceptionally detail-oriented and have incredibly high standards, but the execution of Justin's crew was second-to-none. Francisco (the crew lead) and his team worked quickly and efficiently, while never sacrificing the quality of the work. They accepted every challenge we threw at them and ended up coming out on the other end with a finished product that exceeded our expectations. (Not to mention they were all really nice guys!) I can't express enough in this review how happy we are to have found Justin and his crew. We had them renovate all 3 levels of our home at the same time! We initially hired them to renovate our master bathroom, relocate the laundry room to the 2nd floor and then turn the old laundry room into a mudroom with custom cabinetry. Two months before they were to start that project, our basement flooded. Thus, we included that in the other renovations. They were easy to work with, courteous, cleaned up each night very thoroughly and were meticulous in all that they did. Justin was present most days to oversee what was being done and was accessible via phone and e-mail day, night and weekends. He always answered my questions promptly and worked with me when I had some minor tweaks in the grand plan. Overall, he had my vision (or a better version of my vision) for everything from the beginning. We are very pleased with the home improvements Justin and his crew recently completed in our home. In our kitchen we received a new paint job and a custom stone/porcelain backsplash. Our kitchen has now been completely transformed and we couldn't be more happy about it. From the first meeting, Justin really understood what we wanted for the renovation and set about to develop a plan to achieve it. We wanted a look that would complement and stay true to the age and style of our home. Justin and his team got it right at every turn. The initial estimate was straightforward and the documentation for the project scope was also clearly defined and easy to see the steps that would be complete and when. We originally just wanted to do our kitchen, but after seeing the work begin, we were so pleased that we added a much needed bathroom remodel to the scope. Justin added the bathroom project and didn't miss a beat. His communication was great and he kept us informed of progress at each step and let us know what selections we needed to make at each step. His contacts with local manufacturers and suppliers was exactly what we needed! Our cabinets and countertop were perfect choices for us and he helped navigate us through the thousands of choices by narrowing it right down to what we needed. Our troubleshooting sessions resulted in some of our favorite and unexpected additions. They also went the extra mile in suggesting improvements to our plan for things we wouldn't have through of, but that have made our project so much better. Out 10+ year old hot water heater died about halfway through the project and Justin got us an estimate that afternoon and his crew replaced it the next morning. The price point was very reasonable and we felt that it was fair and competitive, especially in the DC area. The quality of the craftsmanship, carpentry and finishing were top notch, giving the look a top-of-the-line look and feel. I've been in renovations where it is clear that the materials were pricey, but the finish was mediocre, so the end result looked shotty. The opposite is true here. The attention to the finishing details and molding created the perfect, high end finished product. Overall Justin and his crew delivered a final product on time and within budget that exceeded our expectations. I cannot recommend Justin and Calabrese Home Improvements highly enough.
