He continued to deny the fact he set me up for a month-to-month payment plan initially and refused to acknowledge evidence against his claim. I expected ownership for his words, but he began to talk over me and called me a "scammer." I realized by his unprofessional speech and behavior he was not going to resolve this issue and that I should leave. He stood up from his desk as I left the lobby in an attempt to escalate but remained inside. Verbal confrontation set off this individual and he was unable to skillfully mitigate the situation so I had to handle it via outside resources to get my solution.

When I first moved to Columbia from KC in 2019, this location was my first Planet Fitness. It was…read moreran with a decent management team. It made me enjoy lifting. I kept my membership, but transferred to the other location on the South side of Columbia. The South side location had excellent facilities that were kept well and a management team that was just as on top of everything as the other! I eventually went back to my original West Broadway location as a better lease had made itself available to me. The experience I have now had for the past year and a half has been awful. I'm not going to couch my language. The current management team does not properly maintain the gym in any capacity. They do not monitor any issues that have been happening. They pressure patrons to leave 30 mins. before closing. The sanitizer spray bottles have been diluted to look as clear as water. Multiple other patrons have been allowed to harass and openly intimidate other gym-goers, with no repercussions from any of the managers. I myself had a threatening experience with a group of individuals nearly a year ago, that I instantly reported to one of the supervisors, Josh. He said he would take care of the issue, only for the same group of individuals to show up and harass me again the very next day. My most recent experience was the last straw. I recently dealt with slurs being addressed to me from another gym-goer. I immediately went to speak to the supervisors, Cesar & Josh, who told me that they would speak to their general manager, Brandon, and try to get this issue taken care of. I had no assurances that they would actually take care of any of my concerns. They then avoided any face-to-face contact with me after I shared my serious concern about my safety. THIS. IS. NOT. OKAY. I know what positive gym culture is supposed to look like. I have trained at my fair share of different gym facilities. This has become one of the most unwelcoming gyms I had the displeasure of being a member of. I will make sure to warn anyone looking for a proper gym that the Planet Fitness on West Broadway in Columbia, MO is one of the absolute worst options they could pick. Price structures at Anytime Fitness or OrangeTheory, the farther commute to Wilson's Fitness or Crunch, are all extremely better options than the disgusting experience they would have at this gym.

I certainly do much better with that kind of crew pushing me forward rather than going it alone. I started out a total beginner, pretty out of shape, but they patiently coached me into better form and longer endurance. After going a few years I was even persuaded to train to do their rowing half marathon--a milestone experience for me!
