This tiny inn is literally in the middle of nowhere, and there are less than 20 rooms, but it is perfect for an unplugged weekend getaway (although they do have free wifi) or a wedding, which is what we were there for. The layout is a tad confusing. The main inn is almost at the end of a tiny dirt road, but there is an "outhouse" of rooms closer to the entrance. I'm also not sure if there is an official restaurant or not because we missed breakfast and the wedding was catered by an outside company. The grounds are natural and beautiful -- like a well-manicured backyard complete with garden, fire pit and gazebo. Our room felt like my old bedroom in my parents' house, with a private bathroom. I truly felt like I was a guest in someone's home -- down to the communal iron and ironing board propped against the wall in the hallway. Given that this is a tiny inn, there are no newfangled key cards; they use old-fashioned keys, and our room was unlocked when we arrived. This normally would be sketchy, but in such a small, remote place, it didn't bother me. There is also no central air conditioning, but there are air conditioning units in all rooms along with ceiling fans. It was summer, so it didn't bother me in the least, but it didn't appear there was heat in our third floor "servants' quarters" room, and there was a space heater in the closet. There are extra blankets on the bed, and I'm sure heat rises, but it is something to be aware of if you are visiting during the New England winter. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. There are a couple of key points that prevent me from giving Wake Robin five stars. 1. The mattresses could use replacing. This too felt like my childhood bedroom where the mattress is 27 years old and hard as a rock. 2. The bathroom amenities, while all natural and eco-friendly, were a tad sparse. This curly-haired girl needs conditioner people! And while there were cotton balls, Q-tips and makeup remover pads, there were no tissues. Odd. 3. I understand TV isn't the priority, but a tiny 30-inch rear projection on an end table tucked under an eave? At least fake an entertainment center. 4. A pub would be adorable right off the lobby, offering simple sandwiches, salads and drinks. Overall, we had a lovely night at the Wake Robin Inn, and I would consider returning for a little weekend getaway. The nearby town centers are so quaint and worth exploring.

We arrived at 2:00 en route to Music Mountain for a concert to see if our room was ready. It was not. OK, we returned at 8:00PM and it took two people more than 15 minutes to check me in. The young man had said earlier that we have the room with the porch, as you requested. I did not request a porch. When the checking in process was nearly completed, it was made clear that our room was on the ground floor. I said that I definitely did not want to stay on the ground floor and asked if there was a room on the second floor. I do not think that the young man fully understood me as he showed me a floor plan with our room number (as evidence of a porch) and I repeated that we did not want a room on the 1st floor, but we were very tired and I gave up and took the key. The entrance to the room is on the corner of the porch - with windows on two sides. I was thinking about how anyone walking on the porch would definitely wake us up. The room itself was SAD. There were curtain rods, but no curtains, just blinds. The lighting was grim. There were three pillows in the king sized bed and the spare pillow in the closet was a queen. At 8:30 AM a staff member began using a leaf blower on the porch. So, we got out of bed, got dressed and left. Deeply disappointed. Never again. Two stars are for a clean bathroom.

Breakfast was also included and you went to the onsite cafe- provided your room number and we were all set. Right outside our room was two chairs in a table for enjoying outside. We got unlucky with weather our 2nd and final day / night were downpours. But The White Hart had Monopoly so that took up three hours of our time. And we were treated to an amazing jazz band on Friday night! No front desk everything is handled by text it call and that worked just fine for us. Very responsive and helpful. The rooms do not have TVs or mini fridges- but you aren't here anyhow to watch TV. Really comfortable bed and perfect for a peaceful nights slumber. The property is beautiful - plenty of hiking and walking trails. Great locations and amazing views. Do not overlook the stagecoach tavern in the property for dinners- I'll review that separately. Breakfasts were amazing and the same superior quality as the restaurant. Best food we have had in a long time. The staff is more than happy to accommodate you in the private sauna or an outside fire with smores! Looking forward to our next trip here.

Booking/ pricing/ management: We stayed a night at the Race Brook Lodge to see a concert a little while ago. At first glance, a stay here looks a little pricey based on what you appear to be getting. In my head, $200 for a small room in a converted barn is steep. When I went to book it, I was asked to select a "package." There was one advertising a nights stay, a three course dinner in the Stagecoach Tavern, and breakfast the next day for $185. I thought since dinner and breakfast were included, that wasn't such a bad deal after all. Total cost after taxes and fees when I hit the purchase button: $201 Imagine my surprise when I got my confirmation email and took a look at the receipt- $309. I quickly looked at my credit card statement, sure enough- $309. I sent them an email immediately asking what was up with the extra $108. Crickets. Oh well, I figured I could just hash it out with them when we got there. I came to find out that there is no front desk, and everything is handled over text messages, so that made it a little more difficult. When the time came to check out, I got a text asking me to click a link to view my "balance." I clicked it and discovered that they were attempting to charge me another $92. At this point I sent them another email and told them that this felt like a scam, and that I would be disputing the charges with my credit card. They responded right away saying that there was a miscommunication, the "package" was actually separate from the room charge and that they were supposed to let me know of that right after I booked, but someone dropped the ball. They did eventually honor the original $201 price that I was quoted, but if I hadn't noticed the discrepancy or been firm about fixing it, I can't imagine they would have refunded it by themselves. Sidenote: when looking closely at the dinner/breakfast package pricing- it's an absolute ripoff. "Package" dinner: $150 Meals Tax: $10.50 Billed gratuity: $24.00 All in- $184.50. For ONE person. For dinner and a middle of the road buffet breakfast? The "three course dinner" allows you to pick any starter, entree, and dessert from the restaurant menu. If you picked the three most expensive items in each category, it would be $104. Plus a $15 breakfast, you're still not even in the neighborhood of $150. I suppose selecting the meal package bestows on you the honor of donating an extra $31 to the owners of the lodge. Great deal! The Room: We were happy enough with our room. It was nothing special, but it had air conditioning, hot water, and it was clean: really my only three boxes that need to be checked by a hotel. The photos on their website appear to be from 2017, which made me a little weary, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room actually looked better in person. We stayed in the Hayloft #7 room. The concert in the barn: The concert we saw was EXCELLENT. The barn is an amazing venue for a small show like the one we saw. Everyone was giving each other a respectful amount of space, and there truly was not a bad view to be found anywhere. It was hot inside the night we were there, but when it gets to be a little much, you can just step outside, grab a glass of water and some fresh air, and come back in and still have an amazing view of the show. As far as concert venues go, it doesn't get much better than that. All in all, I can't recommend staying here. I'd go see another show in a heartbeat, but would look elsewhere for accommodations. Our time at the lodge was pleasant enough, but the funny business with their pricing left a really bad taste in my mouth. At my most charitable- I'd say it's bad bang for your buck. At worst, the pricing is intentionally ambiguous.

They the called us to the upstairs dinning room and sat us by the window overlooking the path down through the open space towards the Spa. The sun was setting at the tree tops. We decided to try the 4 course dinner instead of the 3 because all the dishes sounded so good we didn't want to skip any. Anthony took care of us but there were also others making sure we had everything we needed. I added pictures for each. The bread was fresh and tasty, shrimp cocktail and a whole radish with a nice dip, the salad was great with watermelon and plums, the game bird (can't remember the name) was perfectly cooked with fresh figs, the pasta starters were fantastic one with red sauce and sausage the other with a pesto sauce with pine nuts -yum. The main was a filet mignon perfectly cooked medium rare with creamy mashed potatoes and a delicious sauce. Finally the desserts were great, 1 chocolate mousse and one cheese plate. We splurged for our 31st wedding anniversary. It's that kind of place. What a special night.
