In general the entire premises could use some TLC, and though I'm generally just one of those "give me an open field to smack stuff into" kind of guys, I can't help but feel that there are better fields to smack little round white balls into. From the entrance, the paved driveway is being gradually reclaimed by the surrounding woodland, and that can kind of be said in general of the whole place. The parking lot is more than large enough for the range, even on the nicest of days I would think. The clubhouse is no longer a clubhouse. Over the years it went from being walk-in and stocking a few items, even re-gripping clubs on demand, to just a window with an attendant, to now, no attendant. That's all honestly fine with me, the ball dispenser seems to work fine, even if giving it your money isn't the most intuitive thing in the world. Other than the ball vend-o-tron, you get a pepsi machine. Speaking of giving it your money, it's $10 for a medium bucket of balls currently, which is 70 balls. That's higher than most of the surrounding golf courses, particularly Jamestown, which has recently overhauled their range into a better experience on days with or without a mat. On the subject of the balls, they need to be purged. In my bucket, I got about half newer balls, and of the remaining half, balls that still had dimples but were covered in gouges and marks, to balls that have been weather-worn almost completely smooth. This item needs the most attention, as I'm not really getting any kind of accurate practice with balls that bad. On my visit, it was "mat-only" but i kind of get the feeling that is the default here now. The grass in front of the matted area is non-existent. The mats do not have tees for you to hit driver, nor are they the newer mats that you can actually slip your own tee into. The result is, people hit irons off the mat, then step forward onto the dirt to tee up for driver practice. On the plus side, there were more than enough tees for me to scavenge instead of using my own. The short game area has fallen into total disrepair, it's not even acknowledged anymore. On a nice spring day, at any given time i was there, there was probably about 10-12 people. Means this place makes a decent chunk of change, and someone just comes along now and then to tractor up the balls and refill the vend-o-tron. A pressure washer, new mats that are tee-able so they can re-seed the grass in front, and a bunch of new range balls would really bring this place back to prominence even if the short game area is never to be used again.

My coach was impressively efficient with evaluation and teaching me the proper mechanics of the swing. This is in large part because of the technology used. The videos and superimposed markings gave me the visuals I needed to understand my faults and the suggested remedies. It's a bit early for me to have hard data on the improvements but my playing partners have noticed the marked improvements in my ball striking. I'm recommending Coach Velazquez to my golfing friends. Each lesson gave me several videos of my swing, with analysis narration by the coach. Also, instruction videos recommended by my coach have been valuable to me. Supposedly, I have permanent access to these training videos!!!

Everyone is always so welcoming. They have a driving range. There is a short game section and putting greens. I enjoy driving my daughter around this course in the golf carts. Never had an issue with their carts. There is a restroom half way through. Make sure you get the code for the doors off the carts. There are fences around the course for privacy. If the grill is open, they have food in the main office. The food has been good throughout the years. Make sure to ask about lessons and tournaments. If you are interested in getting your kids involved, they have First Tee and the PGA Jr Leagues.

Our outdoor tee time fell through due to weather, and Tee it Up was able to get us in last minute. Super nice guys, nice facility, nice sims, decent drink selection, all around great experience. Stuff for any golf nerds reading this: they're running FlightScope monitors (Mevo+ I think) and it's linked up to The Golf Club software. I honestly didn't know TGC was compatible with sims, so that was cool since you have access to all the courses on TGC - even the player-made clones of places like Augusta National, Pine Valley, etc. Google the names of the best dupes before you go in, they're not called the same thing on TGC. Staff know the names, too. The bays were pretty good, and tracking was on point for the most part. Just like any sim, don't expect perfect shots every time: it's not the real thing! Use a mulligan or just get over it and have fun. The only thing I'd point out (and it's minor) is that they don't have the super fancy mat/tee setup with rough, sand, built in tee holes, etc. Maybe that's due to the type of monitors? If they don't add that, just bring your own rubber tee that's the right height for your driver. Not a huge deal.

Enjoyed a delicious traditional thanksgiving meal at work, catered by Starmount, complete with some…read moregreat dessert. To start we had some super juicy Turkey, with sweet glazed ham, for side they had some stuffing, green bean casserole, tasty mashed potatoes and some fantastic sweet potato casserole topped with pecans. The dinner was complete with cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and gravy. Everything fantastic, and hit the spot all around. To top of a delicious team lunch we also a great selection of desserts, pecan pie, pumpkin pie and best of all "Starmount Pie", which is basically ice cream cake, with a burnt baked Alaskan style whipped meringue topping. Tons of food, and plenty for everyone to take some left overs...and actual thanksgiving hasn't even happened yet! It was a great meal, and tricky a nice gesture on ownerships part. I cannot begin to tell you how many events I attended or hosted at Starmount Forest Country Club (…read moreaffectionately known as Starmount) during my 27 year tenure at the Community Theatre of Greensboro. So many bar and bat-mitzvahs, sweet 16s, weddings, anniversaries, rotary club meetings, fundraisers for the community theater and on and on and on. I was shocked but flattered when I walked into Starmount last Sunday to attend a former Wizard of Oz cast member's baby shower, that the manager recognized me and started telling me about all his memories of the events I was part of in years gone by. So nice! I don't know that much about the club in that I am not a golfer and I was never a member so my visits were limited to attending or hosting an event. I will tell you that they have a fantastic swimming pool and pool area, and I know many families that have enjoyed that pool over the years. They also have a very popular golf course and tennis courts that their members love. I was invited many times over the years to join a member for golf, and as much as I wanted to say "yes" to the CTG supporter, I instinctively knew I would make a complete fool of myself and kindly declined! I even suck at miniature golf!!! I remember when Doris Tanger, may she rest in peace, was still alive and she invited me to dinner at Starmount because she wanted to meet her son, Steven. Little did I know at that dinner that a decade later Steven would make a lead gift to the Tanger Center that so many of us enjoy today. I was never a country club kind of guy but I can appreciate what it offers if you are wanting an outlet for your family or yourself during your off hours. I seem to remember that their meals are quite good, they used to have a buffet as well ( maybe they still do) and I always appreciated the warmth and professionalism whenever I attended something, including last Sunday. As I stood there and watched Costen celebrate the soon-to-be coming of his first baby, I remembered when he was 5 years old as a lollipop kid in The Wizard of Oz and I cannot help but wonder where did the years go? But it was a comforting feeling to know that no matter how much time goes by, The Wizard of Oz still captivates our community, and I will return again and again to Starmount Forest Country Club. This facility is a landmark in Greensboro and has served a segment of our community for decades. Conveniently accessed off Holden Road, there's plenty of parking and plenty to do and plenty to eat. I wonder if the new generations will want to be part of a country club like my generation or those before me? It holds a certain appeal to some, but for me, I'd rather get on a plane or in my car and get out of town. But, if you can afford it, there's nothing like heading to the Starmount Forest Country Club for golf, swimming, tennis and a delicious meal or a special event!

Once I gave him what I was looking for to try. He had one and not the other. He then taped it up so I could test it out with the golf simulator. Phil made my experience a great one and while the clubs he had didn't work out this time around, I will definitely go back and I only want to deal with Phil!
