    The 179ft lift hill!

TOP 10 WOODEN COASTERS - #4 _________________________ Fast, furious, and it's got F-A-N-G-S. Rocky Mountain Construction came in and refurbished a classic in the 2012-2013 off-season, and boy howdy did they make some changes! Besides shortening the distance from just over 5,000ft to just under 3,300ft they increased the length and pitch of the first drop (from a moderate 61° to a hair-raising 81°), added 4 overbanked turns and a zero-g-roll, and--perhaps most importantly--took what was widely known as a physically rough ride and made it as smooth as glass. This is Six Flags Fiesta Texas' flagship ride and one of the best "wooden" coasters in the world. It's "wooden" in the sense that the structure and supports are made of wood, but the track itself is a steel 'I-Box' design patented and perfected by the aforementioned RMC group. This layer of steel track allows for intense elements normally reserved for steel coasters and banking that would shake a normal woodie to pieces. Every row provides an exhilarating ride, but the front lends the best view (duh) and the back yields the most airtime. Restraints are surprisingly comfortable and very secure. Ride crews were efficient in dispatching trains. The first drop will undoubtedly make you go 'oh SH*T', it is absolutely insane. The tunnel through the quarry has some lighting effects and is normally filled with fog, but on my visit the effects were turned off. Nevertheless, IR delivered a breath-taking ride and has immediately made my list of the best wooden coasters in the world. And check out how awesome the trains are themed to look like a snake (complete with tail on the last car)! ~Special ride elements~ *171ft drop @ 81 degrees (but it sure looks straight down) *4 overbanked turns (greater than 90deg, which is completely vertical); note that these are not technically inversions *Zero-g-roll *Tunnel Protip: rides in both the front AND back row are needed to fully enjoy this venomous variation of a coaster.

Best ride in the park! That first initial drop will keep you trembling from fear for the rest of the ride!! The cart seems like it wants to pop out the rail in every turn adding to the thrill. Worth the wait!

I screamed my head off with the first drop and continued to scream throughout the ride with the unexpected other drops and fast turns.

I love me some high thrill roller coasters! In the northwest part of San Antonio near La Cantera…read morewhere I10 meets Loop 1604 lies the closest Six Flags theme park (with roller coasters) to Houston since Astroworld closed decades ago. I've been to this particular Six Flags location over 25 times over my lifetime, and it has a great mix of rides for everyone. In my opinion, there are better Six Flags theme parks like Six Flags over Texas in Arlington and Six Flags Great America in Chicago, but this one in San Antonio is pretty good. It comes with several high thrill ride options like Iron Rattler (my favorite), Superman Krypton Coaster, and Wonder Woman. It also has lots of tamer rides for all ages. The food options are also pretty good, especially Johnny Rockets (those burgers and fries are amazing). As for crowds, it's hit or miss. Just know that on weekends around Halloween, Fright Night gets pretty packed. Same for Christmas at the Park. I once waited in line for over 2 hours to ride Iron Rattler. Less busy times like early May before the real summer kicks off, wait times are all less than 30 minutes even for the popular rides. There is also a water park directly connected inside the park so that's super convenient. In Dallas the water park is completely separate. As for pricing it's gone up over the years (even parking is $40 now whereas it was $20 not too long ago), but compared to the high end theme parks like Disney and Universal, Six Flags is very affordable. Enjoy!

Unfortunately this was just not a good experience. Paying…read more$40 to Park uncovered somewhere you are going to go in and spend loads of money is insulting, and an absolutely bizarre price to charge your customers. We are here for my son's birthday, mid June, so you would think everything would be on point! We got here and noticed immediately that the Batman was down. The boys opted for wonder woman, waited in line for about 30 minutes before the ride broke down and they did not get a chance to ride. This repeated itself multiple times throughout our visit: we would wait in line, in the heat for an unfathomable amount of time, just to be told the ride was no longer working and to go find something else. A water tube ride, the Pandemonium, and another that I didn't catch the name of. It also seems that there are multiple attractions that are simply not open, and like I said, we are here in June, not the off-season. Another thing to note is that there is absolutely no shade in the water anywhere you can swim. A woman in the wave pool was trying to protect herself from the summer sun with an umbrella, and was told she could not have her umbrella. As someone in Texas who has already had skin cancer myself, this is really not acceptable. We got the boys baskets of french fries, as the only other option at the food place we went in the waterpark was $20 chicken strips (they were out of $20 hamburgers) and the servings were so sad. There was clearly a deceased animal somewhere by the walkway at the waterpark we could smell every time we passed by. And as soon as it hit 5 o'clock, the GNATS!! oh my God, they were just everywhere. We came prepared to spend money today, with 5 of us; I'm not trying to be cheap. But for the amount of money everything costs, the experience just does not match up. If we wanted the main experience to be a wave pool, we could have done that much cheaper elsewhere. This was my son's birthday and I wanted so badly for everyone to have a great time, but this fell so short.

This was one of the first 4D coaster at the park and is a clone across all of the other Six Flags…read morepark. The ride entrance can be confusing as it blends within the shops. The theme inside is cool and operations do run pretty fast. The ride experience is different and I ended up flipping around 3 times here. Overall, it is a good ride.

New and exciting? Yes. Cutting-edge, '4D', and "first of…read moreits kind"? Hardly. Six Flags touted their most recent installation of a Batman themed roller coaster as being unlike anything else anywhere on the planet [more on that later]. What makes this ride unique is that you're situated on either side of the track, not above or below it. At certain points along the (short) course, magnetic kickers induce rotation which provides riders with 6 or more flips per go. Each 2-person car is free to rotate on its axis, completely independent of the other car's motion, so in a sense every ride is different. But because I'm a roller coaster enthusiast, I know that nothing at all makes this coaster '4D', like the promotional materials state. The track layout is planar and the cars only have uniaxial rotation........so where do the other 'D's' come into play? Also, this isn't the first of its kind, since coaster manufacturer Intamin has 3 of these 'freespin' models scattered around the world and 1 in California. There's essentially nothing new or ground-breaking with this variant of Batman: The Ride, even though Six Flags marketing states otherwise. Don't buy into their nonsense propaganda!! That being said, it's a fairly intense ride, great for teens and adrenaline junkies like yours truly. Riding this was one of the ONLY times I've ever had to remove my sunglasses, for fear of having them knocked off my head from the jarring motions. The elevator-style lift was enjoyable, and the randomness of the rotations keeps you on your toes. As luck would have it, I wound up oriented noggin-first during the coaster's biggest drop, so all the blood rushed straight to my head. That was pretty wild. Few people will notice, but early on in the queue line is an indoor area with various Batman stuff, among them a legit hologram of the coaster car. It was one of the only times I saw ride theming at SFFT, and the refined hologram was a very sleek touch. The Batmobile was nice and shiny, too. Definitely worth a ride on your trip to Fiesta Texas. Just don't go into it thinking that it's the only one of its kind in the world, cuz, well......it's not.
