At first, I was put off by anything less than four stars, but the truth is, places like Dalton's have so many loyal customers that have probably never even heard of yelp, but the only people that review them are one time tourists or folks who don't understand the attraction of a local, community centered bar restaurant. I grew up in the Midwest where neighborhood taverns and bars were a staple of community. They were the social gathering, the place where you literally went and "everyone knew your name" Dalton's is that kind of place. It's always the same staff. The food is as you want it and expect it. There's always a smile and someone checking on you. They do get busy, sometimes the service is a little slower than others, and sometimes it's super fast. That's the nature of a familiar place. But it's ok because we're family here. So if you love the atmosphere of a neighborhood, Tavern, a restaurant, where the regulars come every week, where the value is strong, and they genuinely care if you come back. This is your place.

I wasn't in this area back when this building was what it once was, but I digress. They had a vast menu. I wanted to try the bubble waffle options, I didn't end up getting that though. I got the huevos rancheros. That came on a regular waffle. I also got a regular coffee. I loved the branded coffee cup and I also love their little cute cartoon characters. The food was good, I do want to return and try the bubble waffles. A lot of their offerings are of the standard American sweet dessert type dishes. I also noticed they had burgers and sandwiches for brunch options. I will return.

However, in the same breath I've never been mad at a meal there. The black and blue steak pasta, the meat could be a higher grade for the price. However the sauce carries the dish! The whipped feta dip, with the hot honey you'll never miss. Best part about this place is they have bottles of Amstel Light, and can make an awesome old fashioned! Took my 75 year old dad here, first restaurant in a while that carried Amstel. It made his night, I'll forever bring him back whenever he is in town so he can have his beer! Please do not change a thing! This place is spectacular. I just hope I'm always able to find a table. I would sit at the bar and be there more if the bar was just a bit bigger!

The service is always inviting and everyone works together to make sure you get what you need. I get the Western Omelet, but not the combo. I don't need the homefries or grits added, but your mileage may vary. The neat thing is I still get a choice of white toast, wheat toast, or biscuits and gravy. I think we all know the correct answer to that one, right? Without the combo, it is $9 for the omelet and biscuits and gravy (see, right choice) and I add on a cup of coffee. It is possible to get out with a decent tip for about $15 to $16, although I generally go higher, as I just enjoy this place so much. If I was to say any negative, it would be diner omelets are cooked eggs with ingredients shoved in and not the way you have them at a 5 star hotel. But, I don't expect a 5 star omelet and having a meal large enough to make two meals out of is a far enough positive to outweigh any minor things like this. If you are not into hometown diner food, this one is definitely not for you. As for me, It is one of my favorite breakfasts in the city.

The service is warm and friendly, and also attentive. The prices also feel like they are from the past. Everything on the menu is incredibly affordable. I did a double-take when I saw the prices! Any other place would easily be charging double, if not more. The interior is classic small-town diner. No frills. Just basic. But comfortable and welcoming. The food was good. I had the Sausage & Egg Sandwich with Cheese, and it was very good. Based on the other reviews I definitely want to try some of the other menu options. I guess the moral here is don't judge a book by its cover. The outside looks like nothing much at all. The inside looks a bit basic and dated. But the experience is a breath of fresh air. It reminded me of stopping in for breakfast at a local diner in a tiny town in the midwest during road trips. Authentic, reasonable, attentive service, good food. Basically just everything you need. Delicious Home Cooked Food!…read more We visited the Beacon Light Tea Room on a cold Saturday morning for breakfast, and I'm so glad we did! The staff greeted us warmly and the cozy restaurant makes you feel right at home. Their biscuits are small but tasty, especially when accompanied by their jams and gravies. I love their Sawmill gravy and I'd strongly recommend you add the hashbrown casserole to any breakfast you order. The coffee was fresh and my eggs were cooked perfectly. I look forward to returning!

Tables are lined with checkered tablecloths and bright colors. A large patio offers outdoor seating as well. There are two parts to Picnic Cafe. One side is a cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a meal or order one to go. The other side has cases of prepared foods and some food gift items. They have the largest variety of options of any of the restaurants like this in the area. All of the food here has been very good too. I love their chicken salad, tuna salad, and egg salad. The cucumber cream cheese sandwich is simple and delicious. The cranberry, lime, and apricot salads offer a fun treat with the meal. The Apricot Salad is my very favorite item here, but they recently had to switch to orange. They have a nice variety of drinks. They have lemonade, unsweetened tea, sweet tea, and several flavors of brewed coffee. The takeout area offers food that tastes just like home cooked food. The Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, and Sweet Potatoes with brown sugar topping are musts for me. The take home items are priced fairly. The rolls were okay, but I wouldn't buy them again.
