Not sure why this place only has 3.7 overall rating. It was really good!! The brisket was tender with a wonderful smoke flavor. The sausage had a nice pop with the casing but also a deep, rich flavor with just the right amount of grease. The Mac n cheese was nice and creamy. The beans were also full of flavor. Had a large group (10+) but the food is served immediately, you pay, and then sit. We were able to enjoy our meals together. Vibe is great. Super chill and casual with that TX BBQ flare. Highly recommend!

If my earlier visit to Waco taught me anything, it is that brisket is a must during trips to the Lone Star State. I knew I wanted a place that was tried-and-true but also didn't have a line out the door, and Iron Works fit the bill nicely. It's a historical site with still-running wood-burning stoves and lots of old photos on the walls, so the pedigree was there. The menu boasted plates, sandwiches, desserts, and meats by the pound. While sausage or smoked turkey may have tempted me on another occasion, I zeroed in on a sliced beef sandwich, which was prepared almost immediately. All told, it was good but not quite great. The brisket was very tender but didn't quite deliver the smokiness I had hoped for. At $12.95, the sandwich came sans sides, but it was at least decently sized. Even if it didn't blow me away, I'm glad I gave Iron Works a try.

I came for the beef ribs but they were out. Got the pork ribs and sausage and my goodness....:the rib probably rivals the best seasoned, moistest pork ribs I've ever had.

The place was cool. All the signed photos along the walls and being in the old mill was neat. The service however was a bit rough. The staff was rather rude and was tryin to push us through the line with us being the only ones in line. For the food, the pulled pork was extremely sweet. The sides were solid but for coming for the meat it was a bit disappointing

Wanted texas BBQ. We got 2 plates one sampler with beef rib, sausage, brisket, and the other was pork ribs. The beef rib is really good, the pork ribs are decent, the brisket was ok ,I have had better and the sausage was flavorless, You can get better ones at Costco. The Corn cob , beans, and Mac n cheese are good. Potato salad was bland.

Drove by and stopped! So glad we did. We shared the brisket plate since we weren't that hungry and it was the best creamed corn we've ever had!!

Solid, I got the sampler plate. I think the brisket was the best. The sides are fine but aren't amazing. Over all the service was fast , ton of seating. Great for big parties.

Disappointed! I was looking forward to having some Texas barbecue when I got to Austin. I only had a certain number of days here, so I'm disappointed that one of those meals was wasted here. The brisket sandwich wasn't really that good. The atmosphere is authentic, but that's about it.

Solid bbq! The staff was nice and got us served quickly and the food was out promptly. The location is pretty decent, and getting better with the construction of the river walk going in behind the restaurant. The food was good, I enjoyed the beef rib the best. The brisket left me wanting a little more. Nice selection of beers and non alcoholic drinks.

Great brisket, and super fast service! Loved the ambiance of Texas dive and famous signed autographs everywhere. I walked there from my hotel by the convention center. I had the brisket plate with two sides, Cole slaw and beans for me, and also came with pickles, bread and onion. With an iced tea, was about $28.

Delicious! We had the sampler plate and it was phenomenal. Aesthetics were perfect Texas bbq vibes and we had a wonderful dinner.

Highly recommend the Iron Works experience. Rustic, quick service and tasty BBQ. We had the brisket and half chicken, Coleslaw and chunky potato salad. All yummy. Wish we had a larger party as I wanted to try the beef and pork ribs.

Not gonna lie, looking from the outside I was a bit skeptical. With my hotel being across the street, I'd pass by several times and didn't notice much activity. I'm so glad I decided to check the Yelp reviews because it was worth stopping by. The meats were well seasoned (not overly or bland). While the ribs weren't falling off the bone, they were tender and had some bite. I should've gone up for another order. The bristket was tasty, with the tiniest bit of fat (yum for flavor). The potato salad was also delicious. The mac and cheese could have used a bit more cheese but was still fine. I also tried their sweet tea, which I really liked. This may sound weird, but something about it (maybe the mouthfeel) reminded me of coconut water. Overall, really good experience!

We were planning to try one of each taco but they had already run out of the pulled pork. They wrapped each taco individually in aluminum foil to keep it warm which was a nice touch, though they didn't bring out the red and green sauces until we asked for them. Brisket Taco ($9): The brisket was a bit dry but the slice was pretty thick and it paired well with the acidity of the pickles. Carne G Taco ($6): Super cheesy and heavy. The flavors weren't bad but I felt pretty gross after eating one and it left me really bloated.

This spot was close to my hotel, and on my departure day, I decided to have one last hit of Q. It's a big restaurant, and it appears to also be quite the music venue. When I went, a little on the early side for a Friday dinner, there was not a wait and I was sat immediately. My server was attentive, and got me in, fed, and back out in plenty of time to catch my already delayed flight. I ordered their 3 meat combo plate, which also came with two sides, and added on a piece of cornbread. I chose brisket of course, as well as turkey and sausage. The server recommended the serrano pepper spinach (like a creamed spinach) and onion rings, and I took those recs. The best of the three meats was the turkey. Not a good sign. It was moist and tender, though not particularly smokey. Even so, I enjoyed it more than the brisket and sausage, which I would have guessed the reverse when ordering. The brisket was on the dry side and kind of bland, it did not smack of being freshly carved. The Stubbs BBQ sauce helped me eat some of it... now I see why they are famous for their sauce. I had a couple bites of the sausage and pushed it aside, I didn't enjoy their recipe on that at all. It was cooked seemingly well, but the blend of spices and meat they use wasn't pleasant to me. The sides, the onion rings were very crispy which I like, but again... something in the batter. Maybe even the oil they were cooked in, I did not enjoy as much. The spinach was actually quite enjoyable, maybe even a little rich. I think if it were warmer, if might help milden out some of that. It was really thick. The cornbread wasn't worth the add-on. No sweetness or anything to make it memorable. Vessel for butter. The portion was massive, and I had leftover food, but did not take it... and that would have been the case even if I wasn't headed to the airport. I wouldn't recommend this spot.

I got the 3-piece dark meat meal (15.25), and a refillable drink ($3 but you can keep the cup). My meal was ready in under 10 minutes, and could see that everything was freshly made. The hue on the chicken was beautiful --- it's not just a crust, that's some batter on Gus's chicken! The okra and the collards passed the test (DELICIOUS), and I was hoping for the chicken to be as "world famous" as I've heard. THE CHICKEN DID NOT DISAPPOINT. For fifteen people, the total cost was $425.69. This included delivery costs and taxes, but no tip. It consisted of three meats, two sides, and a dessert along with pickles, onions, bread, and BBQ sauce. There was also a set of utensils delivered, but plates were forgotten, but not a big deal. Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
